He should be stronger, savvier, and adapt to the league he is in and its own interpretation of the refereeing rules.

Having said that, this is an obvious foul in any other top European league including the CL. PL clubs and England historically have suffered a bit from expecting refereeing in international and European competitions to be similar to what they’re used to in the PL. The gap has closed over time but is still here.

Are you saying that a player jostling with another player can't foul the keeper? There's nothing illegal about what Ugarte is doing and it doesn't mean the player has to go into Onana like that.

It was originally "player stood his ground", once the video comprehensively disproved that it became "player was pushed into the keeper". Unfortunately some people will jump through hoops to assign blame to whoever they want to be at fault.

The real issue here is our defenders just leaving Onana to be swarmed, surely someone is meant to be marking the players who are on the keeper, so that should include getting them off the keeper!

You undermine your own point by trying to rewrite reality in order to further it.

Onana was, unarguably, bumped in the back as he went to jump.
If that “bump” prevents a ball being collected on a set piece in the premier league then we might as well stop playing a goalkeeper.

I question who is to blame for this aspect. In most teams I have watched and when I played it was down to the GK to set up defenders where he wanted them in the 6 yard box and Onana seems not to do this. If you have a senior figure at the back they might organize the corners but we don't really have that either. One of the things that was annoying about ETH and seems to be continuing under Amorim is rotation of defenders from game to game and then exacerbating that by making changes in game too. We really need to settle on a consistent first choice 3 and play them game in and game out barring injury so that we can improve communication and organization in these situations.

I don't think the chopping and changing would be so much of an issue if the training and coaching were working, as it wouldn't just be the main XI that are drilling their marking/positioning etc.

Keep in mind we've been awful with offensive set pieces too, so it isn't just about changing out defenders, we're just disorganised and seemingly easily outwitted at set pieces. It seems to me that we simply aren't spending enough time on them on the training ground.
