You're reading the thread incorrectly.I really don't get the blind loyalty to Onana from some on here, what has he done in a United shirt to warrant that?
Xg this xg that, to paraphrase George Orwell:
'The redcafe Onana fans told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.'
Yes ignore the fact he's been a calamity in his time here, ignore the fact he clearly has massive deficiencies in the basics of goalkeeping, ignore the fact he almost singlehandedly ruined our Champions League participation - only pay attention to this little stat of totting up the amount of simple saves he's made. Simple saves he has far more of to make than most keepers as we have a basket case of a football team at present.
And before anyone goes after DDG because of my user name I agreed it was time for him to move on. I just don't think Onana at £50m+ is the answer. Sooner we move on from this terrible decision the better.
A goalkeeper needs to be good at keeping goal first and foremost and this guy has given us plenty of evidence that's not his strength in a short space of time.

No I'm not, there's a small but dedicated cohort of posters on here who will strike down any criticism of Onana and endlessly spew xG stats like some American Soccer commentator. I just don't understand that part. You're reading the thread incorrectly.

The responses you talk about are replies to people who pop in every time we concede a goal, blame Onana and say he can't save anything. No I'm not, there's a small but dedicated cohort of posters on here who will strike down any criticism of Onana and endlessly spew xG stats like some American Soccer commentator. While all that is true, he was at fault massively for two goals they conceded last game so a real manager wouldn’t pick him until he stops doing that. Not really a big fan of Onana but I think some context is needed with why he was dropped. He's had problems with Rigobert Song (the manager) and Eto'o (Head of the Cameroon FA) for a while now, he even retired from international football because of it. There's more to his dropping than just performances.
It’s on him. He’s got wrists made of popadom. We really broke him
Seriously, if the new CEO is serious, every single one of Ten Hags signings will be sold next summer.
The United curse. All over the field we have players strewn about, broken, busted by the force that is United. We really broke him
Jury is still out, a good 8 months does not a player make.Martinez ?
Crossing our fingers that the injury will be in the past, but we've seen this before innit?Jury is still out, a good 8 months does not a player make.
Tell me about it…Crossing our fingers that the injury will be in the past, but we've seen this before innit?
It's been a shit show.man this AFCON could barely have gone any worse for Onana. Pisses off people there, plays one game, gets dropped before possibly getting dumped out of tourney. Really only way this could be worse if they advance and he stays there but keeps getting dropped ha.
So not everyone then! just a small group of posters you don't agree with...I can't see a problem with that?
It was a joke."And before anyone goes after DDG because of my user name I agreed it was time for him to move on."
And your reading and comprehension ability does not
That last goal the other day has to be a wind up. Mr Blobby would’ve got down quicker and saved it. Shocking.
As someone who thinks Onana has a future here, it's that I'm sick of us being a counter attacking team and have hoped to find a keeper with his skillset. The CL campaign was a true disaster from him but otherwsie he's done well enough in my opinion, there is a dedicated cohort on here who are literally blaming him for every goal. The truth is I think we've all hoped there'd be a lot more passing from the back on show but then we are also aware (or at least some say they are but then ignore it) that all our defenders have been crocked. No I'm not, there's a small but dedicated cohort of posters on here who will strike down any criticism of Onana and endlessly spew xG stats like some American Soccer commentator. Ah my apologies then.It was a joke.
I personally don't see.the point of getting rid of him yet. He's been playing Infront of Evans and whoever can stay for for long enough all season, we should sort that out first. He will still have his positives over the season. He has proven prior to be good keeper, with great distribution.
Agreed he is not to blame for every goal we concede, there have been some that would have beaten a prime Schmiechel, VDS & DDG.As someone who thinks Onana has a future here, it's that I'm sick of us being a counter attacking team and have hoped to find a keeper with his skillset. I guess if you are not an Onana fan, you can surely understand there is a benefit to bringing in someone who wants to play like him. Even if he fails, the team will be much better equipped to play with a ball playing keeper and this period was always going to be super difficult (moving to a single DM and bringing in a completely different style of keeper whilst having serious goal issues and lots of off field problems). On the stats part, I don't think people should read them as gospel but if Onana is performing at the top/near the top of a lot of GK metrics it could make some of the 'eye test' gang consider a trip to the opticians?
I like Martinez. But i don't understand all the praise that he gets. Guy missed nearly half of games already. And lets not pretend that he was always great when he was playing.Martinez ?
Ah my apologies then.
I can't say I agree with the rest of your point but I hope you are right. I dont think the CB pairing should affect how quickly a keeper can get down to save a low shot, whether they can catch a ball or at least control the rebound to a safe area.
His comedy highlights in half a season here speak for themselves. I'd say you'd be hard pushed to even make a decent YouTube collection of his supposed highlights in a United shirt.
Where did it go?That's a really new low, surely that's his confidence gone?
Agreed he is not to blame for every goal we concede, there have been some that would have beaten a prime Schmiechel, VDS & DDG.
However, there have been quite a few howlers, and mistakes in positioning, not coming for the ball, failing to narrow the angle, continually beaten on his near post, that it can be said he is 90% culpable for, everyone makes mistakes, but they learn from them, this guy doesn't, I firmly believe that in his head he thinks he the best thing sliced bread, signing for United has somehow convinced him he is world class, and he is far from it.
He is glued to his line
He dives late
He cannot read the game
He cannot jump
He's slow
He does not command his area.

And Ten Hag cannot bring himself to drop him. Happy to ditch Ronaldo one of the greats of world football when he should have embraced him. But Onana who has only shown that he is a clown of a keeper he is happy to encourage. Incredible.Dropped in favor of the third string keeper at Nimes Olympique.
What an absolute train wreck of a signing. Just another player turned into a meme that were going to struggle to move on as no one is interested in a transfer.
I could have, but this is the Onana thread, so I stayed on topic. You could have posted the exact same comment about De Gea who was litterally guilty of everything you mentioned during his time at the club.
Oh please bang a different drumNo real change from the last 5 years then.
I think you might be a bit biased, Dave
Seriously though, he's made some great saves and shown excellent resilience to come back from his early mistakes. We'll see if he's good enough over the next few months, hopefully with a settled defence in front of him.
I think he'll be fine.
