I dont trust Onana and i see him as a downgrade from DDG. Whenver he needs to make a save im nervous and i fully expect him to do something stupid.

Onana is a downgrade from prime DDG but prime DDG wasnt the player that played for Manchester United last season. Since you are sharing your feelings i will do too, I was nervous when a ball was passed towards DDG and i fully expected him to do something stupid.

Keepers with high save percentages are normally those with tight defences in front of them that force attackers to shoot more from further out, as well as being a decent keeper of course. Pope was famous for that when at Burnley, Sean Dyche being so good at drilling his side defensively. I'm not saying that's the case with Onana, I don't think it is, just furthering the discussion.
Save percentage yes. Graph is sorted by pure numbers. Onana isn't 3rd when we sort by percentages.

I don't know what you're looking at, he's third on save percentage for the prem this season that I posted earlier, and third in the goals saved above average over the top five leagues that Bucky posted, the one that started this discussion off. What it means is open to interpretation but denying it is starting to sound a bit weird.

Dalot was entirely at fault leaving the back post after he was on the back post.
You keep saying that despite it not being true. Dalot was covering Werner on Spurs corners. On the corners that the ball was dropping short he would then drop back onto the goal line to cover more space that the keeper couldn't reach. Doing that saved one goal, but then Spurs had another almost identical chance from the opposite side which unfortunately was just out of Dalot's reach. He was never 'on the back post'.

Dalot was not covering anyone. At the moment the corner kick was taken he was standing one yard outside the post marking no one, which was criminal to begin with, and once Richarlison headed the ball, Dalot six one yard inside the post marking no one, a second felony count.

The point here is that Onana was not guilty of a criminal offense on the Richarlison goal.

We could take a different tack to find Onana’s guilt, which is to argue that he should have come out for the cross but that would be asking too much of Onana. Onana now or De Gea before him, United keepers over the last decade have not come out on corner kicks. Criminal liability for the Richarlison goal falls mostly on Dalot for not protecting the back post, where he actually was not defending anyone, nor on Onana, who was positioned where he and De Gea before were instructed to be.

There was nothing “unfortunate” about the Richarlison goal other than Dalot defending no one or protecting the back post. Only in that sense was the goal…”unfortunate”.

I think he’s a good player and once we put a consistent engine room into the team he’ll be tested a bit less and should have more time and options on the ball. Costa was probably the better keeper to go for in hindsight but the position isn’t a priority anymore. Onana can become one of the best keepers in the league in a settled side who want to play out from the back

He did throw our CL hopes away almost singlehandedly though and I understand that’s going to draw a lot of pressure and criticism. He seems like the kind of guy who will just keep going until he’s told he’s not wanted anymore

"'Next question". Because what he did (missing out on the first game) doesn't scream very patriotic, it was a setup question and he fell for it

Come on now. When did “next question” ever put a journalist off?! He had to come up with some sort of response. And reiterating that he is proud to represent his country and it’s a priority for him seems like the best answer. He only missed a group game anyway. The tournament proper only really kicks in when the groups are over.

The post on the previous page from keepers in Europe, not just PL, where he's 3rd in shots saved but not in percentages.

The one originally in post 6456? That one doesn't have save percentages. It has what they call 'post shot expected goals' which is presumably what they use to calculate their 'goals saved above average'. God knows how good they are at rating them though, it would take days to go through it all and form an opinion, I'm just taking it at face value that third must be pretty good :)

My point is that his response was him saying that his country is his priority over his club when we have all seen it's a blatant lie
If an Irish player did that under similar circumstances, wouldn't you find that odd ?
He is lucky he has powerful allies in the Cameroon government otherwise I don't think he'd ever be called up, specially after what happened at the WC too

Why are we laughing he obviously isn’t at fault for that goal. I’d prefer him to catch the ball but he’s punched it well clear so no real issues there. What’s he supposed to do with a deflected shot hit with power in the corner? This witch-hunt is bizzare.

Who is "we"? I simply posted the video of his two goals conceded.

I’m not saying you are but look at the caption to that tweet. It’s like a running joke he’s getting blamed for any goal he concedes.

so the goal allowed in first half he punches with what he can so that is fine, but cant tell from that if he is guessing again on shots vs just being screened or what.
2nd half goal clearly though he doesnt get down and react to the ball coming in as he prob thought it was a scuffed shot when in reality i think it was played that way on purpose. 100 percent shouldve grabbed that one or at least moved towards it ha

He cant do much about those two goals against Cameroon. Positive thing is that he will be back quicker if Cameroon is knocked out. He is our best and number one goalkeeper after all.

Defender's fault on the 1st. Nothing Onana could have done differently really.

Probably could have been catching the second pretty easily, but it wasn't a bad punch either.

Edit - shit, didn't see the third goal. Pretty bad tbf. Went down in slow motion.

They should have kept him on the bench

Thanks to Ten Hag, now GK is a massive priority to sign next season after wasting +40m on this guy last summer.

I’m not one for digging him out all the time but that one’s definitely on him. We’ve seen him concede that same goal a couple of times this season, seems to take an absolute age to get down and by the time he hits the deck the balls already rippling the net. The shot was hardly rifled past him either which makes it even more concerning.

There’s 2 players blocking his line of sight to be fair

3 maybe.

It's like KDB's finish the weekend. Everyone went on about how clever he was and how good the finish was. Not much said about Dubravka. That's a similar finish from Mane, he pretty much had 1 place he could have put that ball to score and he found it.

Never seen a goalkeeper concede so many soft goals while, inexplicably, none of them apparently being his fault.

Was obvious since September he isn’t good enough.
