Shits himself whenever the ball is near him, it's as if he thinks the ball is on fire and his first action is to pass it backwards or sideways.

Sad to watch at the minute.

He's been an absolute nothing player this season.

The only thing he did today that was impressive was drawing a foul and winning a cheap free kick in injury time to waste a few seconds.

We will very rarely see a good performance out of him next to Matic in a double pivot. They're both just too similar. He either needs to be the deepest in the two, or paying as an 8 in a three.

That said, on the ball, you'd expect him to do a bit more. He just seems to pop it off as soon as he gets it.

Off the ball, however, he will always press the opposition and win the ball back, which he did today.

I wouldnt get rid of bim, because he's the type of player you can put in for a specific job. However, he probably shouldnt be a regular starter unless there's injuries.

It is useless playing him in a 2 man midfield. Is offering very little. Is he carrying an injury? Playing uncharacteristically rubbish.

Yeah, we most definitely need two CM's.

Herrera is done, Fellaini won't renew and Carrick as probably past it.

We're getting Pereira back. He's worth a shot there. He looked good in the friendlies and good at Valencia (albeit he mostly plays on the right for them). I'm not sure we "need" two CMs that's a major exaggeration, in my opinion. One would be nice though.

Not to mention you won't find two very good CMs happy to be squad players that easily.

With Herrera's downfall, Fellaini perhaps going and Carrick most likely hanging up the boots we have no rotational option for Matic, or god forbid cover if he gets injured.

We'll run him into the ground.

Matic himself is getting on in age. Midfield needs a complete overhaul next summer

Normally when you buy a player, their youtube video has their best, when we bought him, all I saw on his video was side passes and a few goals. His goals were on the on fluky side as well. I thought if LVG must know what he is doing if he thinks this player is who we need.
Then I watched him play, even at his best and I still did not see anything special. He was at best Cleverly with the tenacity of Fletcher, but they even dared to venture forward with their passes as they should as midfielders.

Thought he was good today, apart from last 15 minutes but that applies to almost anyone today.

I think I’m in the minority in agreeing with you, Ander seems to be bearing the brunt of most of the criticism but did well, mainly in first half and no worse than the majority of the rest of the side in the second.

Looks really bad in current form. I'm sure he'll get back to his best, but we can't afford to carry him. We really need another #8.

I reckon Herrera can cover for Matic but these two as a pairing don't work. When Pogba's back, I think it's imperative giving Matic a rest and playing last years midfield pairing of Pogba and Herrera. That might also show us whether Herrera can be relied upon to be Matic's cover next year or not.

Like I said, I believe Pereira can be backup to Pogba in terms being that box-to-box/playmaker CM. Another CM would be nice, but I completely disagree with @Loublaze that the midfield needs a complete overhaul.

He just doesn't have enough quality to play against a team defending deep. He also doesn't have enough passing ability to get through teams that press him intelligently. We need another top quality number 8 and Herrera can be cover for matic. Right now matic is playing the 8 and Herrera the 6 which isn't ideal but better than the opposite.

We need to get a replacement in. We’ll never win the Premier League with players like him, Mkhitaryan and Martial. We need better, stronger mentalities in the side. And everyone will see that when we get more experienced replacements in (hopefully)

Joao Mario and Perisic would make a big difference to this squad. More than most people realise.

You're a curious one. How do you rate players like Rojo and Fellaini over our (arguably) most naturally gifted player in Martial? Most of our rivals would take Martial in a heartbeat, including those in Europe

Another steaming pile of turd from him.

Just a horrible snarling whining little busy body in midfield. He used to be tidy in possession, now he's just useless. A real vomit of a player who's contributing nothing but problems at the moment.

He's all over the place at the minute, and it looks like its a real struggle for him.

But can you blame him? At the end of last season he'd been voted player of the year, was being spoken about as the next captain, linked to Barcelona and in all likelihood had a bumper contract renewal in mind. We then spent the summer trying to replace him as a starter and succeeded in doing so, he started the season on the bench and more than likely found out that his place in the United hierarchy wasn't as high as he'd thought.

He's said and done the right things, got his head down and worked, but it's not difficult to see how that chain of events might mess with a players head. I hope he can turn it around.

It's not good to see someone who clearly loves the club struggling so badly. tbh I've forgotten what he's good at.

Feel like Mourinho has instructed him to play that niggling midfielder role - minor fouls that get overlooked by the ref - and just to break up play without contributing all that much in terms of our game with the ball. He's pretty much just sent out to play football without the concept of a ball. It's not pretty.

How many more years on his contract? It's looking bleak for him tbh.

Could never believe i'd say this a year ago but I would pick Fellaini over him any day of the week.

Yeah, he knows that he will sit on the bench when Pogba and Matic are fit and he can't do much about it. Not saying that it's an excuse for his poor form, but could be difficult finding the motivation with that in mind.

I think he needs to decide wether he wants to stay and be a squad rotation player, or find a new club where he can play more consistently, because i don't think Mou will ever see him as a start XI player again.

Do you actually believe that?

Why is it last January, only clubs like Sevilla and Inter were interested in him? He would never get into a top sides starting 11.

Rojo and Fellaini have a much better mentality for a club like United. Fellaini is limited but he will always give 100%. The other three... not so much. They’re too weak in my opinion. United have always had physical strong players.

Yup, just look at the 2 club legends who were integral to the club over the last 2 decades or thereabouts, Giggs and Scholes. Being built like a Bull is where its at for United.

They were hard workers and physical. They had strong mentalities.

Martial and Mkhitaryan sulk and go invisible. But they get excused cause they can dribble a ball.... sometimes.

Ah, a body language expert. Carry on then, can't be arsed.

ooooooooof - he really is in a rot at the moment. Works hard though, getting by on his ability to close and tackle but apart from that he is really struggling.

If that's what's being asked of him though then so what? Too many fans seem to expect a world class all rounder and that doesn't really exist and has for about 10 years. If Herrera is going to to the chasing and closing down, letting our other midfielders concentrate on other things, then great.

He's not going to displace Matic and Pogba in a two but as a backup he is absolutely fine as seen in the 3 games he's just played.

I'm guessing those aliens from Spacejam have a football match coming up..

Yeah he's suffering at the moment. He and Matic together is not a good partnership, they're too similar and end up stepping on one another's toes. If we continue with a midfield two we either play him as the deepest player or not at all.

Future captain

De facto captain.

Mr Manchester United. He's going to be key to our fortunes this year.

He's gonna run the league this season.

One of my favorite players. If he wasn't a united player, we'd be raving about him and wanting to sign him.

Hope the story that he's been made vice captain is true.

He's been brilliant. I'm expecting an even better season from him.

Also how the feck are his long shots on target now?! Madness!

I would really like for the club to tie him down to a new contract now, we're cutting it too close for my liking.

Weird to think this is going to be the first season where he won't have to start from the bench and prove himself to get in the XI.

so we are offering him a massive increase in pay to tie him down long term.

good.

I always felt that Herrera was vastly overrated on here - some of the quotes above from the summer!? His stock seems to have fallen a lot since then, more towards my way of thinking. Has an average RedCafe rating of 5.6 this season - and that's by United fans!

He does have strengths and is a handy player but his passing range is very limited and without confidence it’s even more apparent when he refuses passes forward that eventually lead to our attacks being slowed right down. We need better (either he steps up or we replace) as his position is now under serious threat in the squad.

I really didn't see this slump coming, but I probably should have. We got the best out of him when he was shown the faith of the manager. In his first season under LVG he struggled to convince the manager and it showed on the pitch. The same thing is happening now, although with Matic and Pogba as first choice it's more of the team being upgraded rather than a lack of faith. But being out of the team really hurts his performances when he does get a chance.

I still stand by what I said though. His energy and enthusiasm and apparent love of the club is a great asset to have out there on the pitch.
