Amorim: «We are maybe the worst team in Man United history»

Ole would have said the boys were fantastic and give em all hugs

Amorim already has as many league losses as Ole's second full season and is only 2 losses away from as many losses in Ole's first full season.

If it's difficult for anyone to see Amorim's time as anything but awful - just pretend he's a United legend like Ole. Or an intormim manager. That should help.

My wife thinks that this comment will be the start of his downfall. She doesn't watch football but she makes the point many of us are thinking that if your boss said this about your office space, how would you react? Given the fragile mindset of many of these players, it's not looking good. Standby for the tools to be downed yet again.
I think you wife might be right. Most negative comments should be kept behind closed doors. What he's said is probably true, but not helpful to say in public. Especially with a bunch of players that are as mentally fragile as ours.

Mourinho did similar things and it didn't help him.

I guess this will depend on how much INEOS are willing to back him. If they fully support him and get rid of half of the squad, he should be alright. Sacking the manager is far easier than replacing half of the squad, though.

He doesn't need to say that we are playing like the worst team in history though. He's just put even more focus on us from the media sharks than he needed to.
English media does not need any reasons to talk about us, mate. Talking about United sells the best, so media will always talk about us, no matter what.

I think he is trying to put pressure on INEOS to make them support him and buy him somebody in January. It is ridiculous that they insisted he joined in October and refuse to buy him players in January. Goddamned feckers are throwing him under the bus

Worse thing we did was not keep him on in the background to deal with the issues in conjunction with a coach. He knew what and who the big problems were.
Agreed, I am sure Ragnick would have spent 600M in far better way and we could have a better team by this time.

People are talking about formations/System but what's the point of disucssing it when these players cant pass/move the ball forward?

This is 100% it.

We need to stop giving lazy/ not capable players an excuse. They are pros why can’t they play a system? The answer is that they can. We also got annoyed with ETH for not sticking to his principals and trying to suit the players.

I’m personally glad that Amorim has called out the players and put them exactly where they belong. I’m 41 and started following in the early 90s, I’m sure we aren’t the worst team in UTD history but we certainly are the worst in our PL era.
I started supporting united in 1977. This is the worst team i can remember and not just this season. The past few seasons have been embarassing. 5-0 to liverpool at Old Trafford, 7-0 at anfield, 6-3 at Etihad. Even in the 80s, United teams played with a bit of a swagger even if they werent very good.

I was 14 when we got relegated, but the team, well it might be false memory, but I cant remember we being as poor as this. At least there was excitement.
I was 7, but to quote my late father, we were “flash Harries who could beat anyone on the day but mostly left our best performance in the pub the night before”. I don’t know if that’s true but I do remember the lousy couple of years when SAF took over and absolutely think we should keep the faith and stick by our manager now.

Yes, all this talk of systems is doing my head in. These players struggled to keep hold the ball under numerous systems. Onana had a nightmare today and gifted them two goals, that knocks the stuffing out of your defence, because you stop trusting him. He hasn't got a striker, that is not his fault, that is the people running the club, who are more bothered about sell on value than getting results on the pitch, when you need the latter to gain the first.

Honestly I don't give a shit about managers say during interviews, whether they do it honest or from a POV to cover their ass, I don't give a shit anymore.

We could've hired Mr Blobby as manager and he in insist in a formation unknown to the players. How long do we lose for and blame it on the players/formation and how long before the manager comes under pressure?

Rightly or wrongly, it will inevitably happen if we don't improve

I don't think the players have any power anymore. Nobody supports them. And we know that if we could afford, we would replace 6 players from the starting 11 immediately. Now this will take 1 year at least. And by conceding comical goals, they don't help their case.
In reality we are the worst (or among the worse) we have ever been in PL history.

We are in the same spot as we were with Rangnick 3 years ago. But we can't do what we did then, ie. Ignore the manager, and spend half a billion again only to be found in the same position. These players should fight for their career now. And players like Onana, Antony, Zirkzee, Mount, even Garnacho are not.

And I won't even mention players like Shaw, Rashford and Lindelof.

Shouldn't Amorim be dipping into the reserves to look for more options at some point if he doesn't like what he sees? By all means get him one or two players in Jan but the whole squad feels short and we're trying to shift some of the old ones out too.
This, let's find some young lads that are dying to prove themselves and play their hearts out. It' can't be worse than this.

I don't think they will do worse tbh

Probably not the most inspiring thing to say.

I guess he’s trying to get a reaction from the players but I could see it going the other way.

The fanbase mostly don't support the players, but getting rid of them is extremely difficult. They earn way too much and clubs that they should be playing for can't afford them. This is definitely the worst we've been in our PL history. I honestly did not think that we could get any worse since 21/22, but we've had 2 seasons since then that have been even worse.

I'm hoping we keep the manager and replace the players that need replacing, but our results under him are nowhere near acceptable. If Ten Hag was still here, and we were losing games this frequently, I'd be losing my mind.

The players are mostly to blame, but I did expect to see an improvement in results under Amorim. I didn't expect them to get even worse. All of those players you named need replacing. We can't do it in one summer. That's the problem we have.

The problem is, the squad ragnick was talking about was rotten and was cleared out. But we somehow replaced them with more deadwood.

Lingard, Matic, Wan Bissaka, De Gea, Telles, Pogba, Cavani, Mata, Andreas Pereira, Jones, Fred, Bailly, McTominay…they’re all gone. And we got worse

This is depressing...The state of our team/signings over the last few years has been pathetic.

It got worse over the years and we were sleep walking into medicore.

I dont think we can blame one person for this, Its a cumulative cluster disaster in last 12 years.

I don’t see how this will help Amorim’s case and how to get his group of players onboard and behind his philosophy. I even think it’s a very stupid comment to make. What if a company’s boss or manager made a comment like that? How will the group of (office) workers react?

Don’t forget, 95 percent of the players will still be at the club next season and Amorim still needs to work with them. Him throwing his own squad under the bus won’t help him at all.

Wants to get fired. Knows he has bitten off more than he can chew.

I've watched the interview and it's not as bad as the headline appears.

In 10 games in the Premier League we won two (sic), I know that. Imagine this for a fan of Manchester United, imagine this for me.

You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach – imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that. We are being the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I’m saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. So there you go, your headline

Blaming everyone/everything else apart from himself, whose masterful system is the best thing since sliced bread apparently, so advanced our multi million squad cannot comprehend it.

Not sure there is a psychologist on the planet who would suggest that approach to improve things performance wise

No, couldn't have said it better.
He's not a fan on a podcast. He's the manager.

I think my issue with a massive rebuild is that if we sign 10 players between now and the summer, can you trust that more than five of them will be a success?

If they have anything about em, they will use it as motivation and make the manager eat his words. But history shows that they'll continue being shit, because its their level.

Yeah that's not happening in any real world office. If my manager calls me out publicly, I'm quiet quitting
