Amorim: «We are maybe the worst team in Man United history»

Exactly, people seem to forget that. If I was a player reading what he said, I would think feck that and try to get out of this toxic atmosphere.
People seem to think it's a managers job to build a new team wherever he goes. For most clubs, the job is first and foremost to get a tune out of the players available. I fail to see how this will help

Come on, this is nowhere near the weakest squad in our history. We got relegated with the likes of Arnie Sidebottom and Steve James as centre back options ! Any eleven from our current squad would trounce that team. It’s just a cheap, throw away comment.

Considering the amount of money spent to assemble this squad and the wages they're on, they're not just the worst team in our history. It's one of the worst squads in the history of team sports.

Something tells me Amorim wasn’t watching us back in 1974

I posted this when we were down to Southampton -

Team is awful. There is no light at the end of the tunnel at this point, maybe we can get lucky draw in Europa. At this point top half finish would be a miracle. Were 2.5 seasons from legit chance of CL football. I think this is the lowest point I can remember as a supporter for 20 years.

Worst team in 20 years i can fully understand but surely this team isnt worse than some pre SAF teams?

When Rangnick said stuff like this people said he was getting his excuses in...

I think he was publicly putting pressure on the club to face reality.

And this is what Amorim said after Newcastle, that the club needs a shock. He's as blunt as he can be. I think he is so brutally honest because he aims high and that's the only reason he joined. I don't think he's the type to just be happy to have landed the job. And in order to aim high there needs to be a complete change in how this team plays (and the makeup of the team). I'm sure he's seething that he's not been helped one iota by the club in the market, either in terms of getting out unprofessional players or bringing in a left wing-back and a midfielder. We're starving for those positions, and of course a striker who can handle the lone role well.

I'm completely behind the manager here. It is time for the owners to step up here and support him, they simply have to inject some quality and balance into this side, even if those are creative loan deals.

And in the summer they simply have to offload a bunch of players in a way that allows the manager to reinvest in the squad.

Then thank feck you aren't a United player. We have enough thin skinned losers.

Imagine if Fergie called Keane or Neville shit. They'd tell him to feck off and go out the next game fired up ready to prove him wrong. These lot just wilt under the pressure

It's not exactly gonna endear him to the squad is it? Now you can argue that they are shit and they deserve it, but right now they're the only squad we have and given how skint we are, that isn't gonna change any time soon.

I’m assuming it’s been said to light a fire under them. He’s seemingly tried the arm round the shoulder, that’s not worked. Hopefully the hairdryer is in him somewhere, these cnuts deserve it.

And knowing that, how does his statement help?

We are the worst man Utd I have ever seen, and given how much has been spent it's utterly criminal.

That said, this being the worst man Utd team ever? Our best 11 is -still- better than a lot of the sides above us best 11's, and it's Amorim's job to fix it, or he becomes the worst Man Utd manager in Man Utd's history, too.

Exactly, Neville said the same "pound for pound the worst team in the country".

the squad is extremely poor. In order to improve, we need to exclusively sign top quality players for at least a few seasons.

Appreciate the honesty but it's also a bit of an indictment on himself too. He's not completely faultless in all of this either.

A part of me does wonder if these kind of statements will do him any good.

It's like when Moyes made those comments about Liverpool/City that time, it does comes across a bit defeatist. There isn't a way to sugar coat but I don't know, I'm not coming away from this happy we have the manager who is a "breath of fresh air". Jose and Rangnick were equally honest at times and I don't think it necessarily did then any good.

Wheels coming off what? The wheels fell off when we decided to keep Ten Hag and not address things in the summer.
And the way we did that too - by conducting a public appraisal of other options and then going back to EtH. Ineos have been as incompetent as the Glazers.

He's absolutelty right to say this. Some of these have been taking the p*** for far too long. They've gone to Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks and gotten results yet when it comes to the likes of Wolves, Southampton (even if we won) Brighton. They crap the bed

The amount of hyperbole in this thread is embarrassing. We’ve now got to the stage where we apparently have the worst squad ever assembled in any sport ever in the history of humanity ever. Anyone want to go further than that?

Yeah Brighton is kind of a bad example for my point, but I refuse to believe that our squad is the 15th (or whatever it is) best in the PL. While the players are clearly failing, Amorim is struggling big time as well.
It was bad last season as well, it was saved by an unexpected cup win.

People turned on Rangnick when he pointed out what a bunch of wasters the squad were, and that the entire club structure was rotten. Now look where we are. Absolutely everything needs flushing out. The manager is only ever the latest fall guy. It comes down to INEOS and their long term vision. They know how crap things are - I hope.

I mean, relative to the money spent we surely can't be far off?

Oh bore the feck off! We’ve seen you moaning most of the time about ETH and the players and now you are here defending this shit! Do me a favour.

Any manager who comes out and calls it the worse team in history is a fecking moron. In case he hasn’t noticed, we haven’t got money for a massive overhaul of players so he will be working with these players going forward. It’s no fecking surprise players are being more successful after they leave our club.

Yeah, what a terrible side this is. Look at how shite the recruitment has been, look at all the flops. Barely any successful signings and any that were looking good, they end up being atrocious.

A huge club has been letdown by incompetence and this will take another decade to fix. Nothing has worked with this club. A dinosaur of a club that has failed to move with the times. Ineos don't have the answers and won't have them either.

Honestly even considering the opposition, we were shockingly poor - any team in the league could've beaten us today. If we played with the same intensity we did today against Liverpool away, we would've indeed gotten pasted 4+ nil as many predicted before that game.
You look at the performances against Liverpool and Arsenal. This squad cannot seem to sustain that sort of intensity from one game to the next. That is a physical and mental problem to me. Although look at Arsenal celebrating beating a terrible Spurs side like they had won the world cup and then p*ssing away a two goal lead to Villa in the next. A lot of the teams doing well in the lead are not playing the number of games the bigger teams are, so get the rest and preparation time between games. Will be interesting to see how some of the smaller clubs cope if they do get Europe and how their squad cope.

No they didn't, very few people turned on him. Instead, especially here on the caf, people praised him for trashing the team week in week out and not even bothering to save the season and expecting a job at the end of it. You still get people like yourself defending him. Do not even try to rewrite history.

Just heard Alan Pardew on Talksport, who rates Amorin very highly, his co-contributor asked him if he thought the comment was directed at the owners. He said when he heard it again he thought it was a very calculated comment, not overly emotional and was directed to the fans, so we know where we are with the squad. He needs backing if not January, in the summer or we will just go round and round in circles and go absolutely nowhere.
