All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Yes. Which means £26.5.

We've spent around £31m - £26.5 = £4.5m.

Money out Glazers. . . we could do with another striker.

But the £31 is without Tevez right? And Smith might not be sold. Anyway, I don`t give a damn what our net spending adds up to as long as we still have a good team.

Well this all but proves that the academy system just doesn't work. If Rossi of all people can't make it at United, what hope does any other of the lot have. To be brutally honest, Rossi has been our best player we've had in the reserves for years.

Pique will probably follow him out now.

Yep - and the likes of Campbell and Gibson must be considering just cutting their losses and moving on too

As much as this sucks.... :( :annoyed:

I trust SAF....
it's like when we sold phil neville, i think alex did it for him. he would rather make sure he has a good footballing career than just hung around on the bench waiting for an occasional game.
it's a bit strange though.. there was a quote from him this morning saying his most difficult job would be keeping such a large squad happy!
he even mentioned rossi by name

Point I'm making is that there should be enough cash left to buy another striker if Smith is sold, which if were honest is a dead cert.

If the boy isn`t good enough, then he isn`t good enough. I also reckon that defenders break through easier.

When was the last time we brought a striker out from our youth system? McClair?

I hope that Rossi is rubbish because if he is not rubbish this means that we sell in order to make up for our purchases... feckING GLAZER!

They must have paid good money for him

Other clubs also wanted him

Sack Fergie!

And I'm almost serious this time. He wants to leave United in a good state, with young players like Nani and Anderson to give the club a strong future. Then he sells the best young player from our youth setup in years.

I'll only understand this decision if Rossi demanded to leave because Fergie could not guarantee him a starting place. If Rossi wanted to stay and fight for a place then there are no excuses.

was thinking the same thing, surely we wouldn't let him go without getting tevez

If Smith stays and Rossi was booted, I would be very very frustrated. How the hell they rate Smith above Rossi! Fergie is better to have a plot getting another striker (which is taller and stronger).

Ridiculous Overreaction

The boy isn't not good enough. A lot of players play better outside EPL, and play poorly in EPL. I only wish that Fergie lets him go because of this theory....

Just got in from work to find this out. I'm a bit disappointed but I'm sure the boss has his reasons. I hope there's a buy-back clause inserted in the deal or something. Can't quite understand the logic behind this though with the persistent Smith rumours and the never-ending Tevez saga. Maybe Fergie is looking to play either Nani (who started his career as a striker) or Ronaldo up top. If not, then he must be looking to sign someone else...

To be honest I couldn't stand some of the people in here going on about Rossi, so I feel ok with him being sold as long as we get some good money and perhaps a replacement. You can't build a squad forever ffs. He probably wanted first team football, and are we going to take a chance just to suit that need??? What if he walks off without scoring any goals for 2 games, and we get a draw or maybe even worse, lose the game!!! Do you actually care about that? He's history now, so move on and forget it.

I know some people rate him - what about Martins at newcastle? It'll be interesting even if unwelcome. Anelka? ...Another option. He might even rate lita at reading. We'd probably have to sell smith first before anything happens

We're going to regret this somehow. Good luck to the lad though, he never got his chance.

Thats the thing though, judging by his performances to when people actually gave him a try, he actually does seem good enough. It shouldn't be a case of what position the player coming through is playing to determine whether they have a future with us or not.

And can we really see Evans or Pique breaking into the United team in a couple of years while Vidic and Ferdinand and Wes still have loads of years ahead of them.

Is the academy just there so we can build up potential players then sell them to other clubs ?

Rossi is gone. Smith is likely going as well. We will definitely need another striker before Tevez shows up. Hopefully someone taller, faster and good in the air to provide a difference to our team.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just saw it on SSN, really gutted, cant believe he has left without being given a chance and after SAF said he would be staying last week plus the Tevez saga is not even sorted out, very very disappointed, I always stick by SAF decisions but I don’t think I can on this one.:nervous:

He will probably do an Forlan:mad:

Sit down dickhead, nobodys happy abotu this but no players bigger than the club either.

Man Utd sell Rossi to Villarreal
Manchester United have sold striker Giuseppe Rossi to Spanish side Villarreal for a reported £6.7m fee.
The six-year deal is subject to the 20-year-old American-born Italian passing a medical on Wednesday.

Rossi was loaned to Newcastle last season and then to Parma, where he scored nine goals in 19 matches.

Villarreal were looking for a new striker after allowing Diego Forlan, another ex-United player, to join Atletico Madrid for £14m.

United signed Rossi as a 16-year-old from Parma and the Italian club were keen to secure his services once again after the striker helped them stay in Serie A last season during his loan spell.

fade to black

They reportedly tabled a £5.4m bid for the Italy Under-21 international, but failed to clinch a deal.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson often spoke highly of Rossi, who scored 13 times in 19 starts for the reserve team in his first season at Old Trafford.

He signed a new contract until 2010 last summer, with Ferguson hailing him as "the future of the club".

He went to Newcastle last season in a bid to play regular Premier League football but failed to win a regular place in the first team.

His loan spell in Parma was, by contrast, a huge success and Villarreal's offer was apparently too good for United to turn down.

6.7 million WHAT THE feck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Obviously Fergie sees Guiseppe Rossi every day in training and has an unrivaled view of his ability.
But....
Everytime i watch Rossi, i am heavily impressed. He impressed in Serie A, wasted the reserve league, and even played decently in the first team when called upon.
I think he may well be the only youth player we regret selling. He is the one player i thought could go on to be a hit at another club.
I am disappointed, but sometimes you must say that Fergie is better than us. He knows what he is doing and knows exactly what level Rossi is at.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought McClair from Celtic where he was already proven as a striker -- Hughes was the last out and out striker who came from the youth system -- Though Giggs also came from there as a "forward".

My disappointment is that Rossi was great in Italy and obviously will be great in Spain -- replaced Diego Forlan ironically -- I just wish we had kept him for one more season ----
