All Rossi transfer speculation here please

We are no different to Chelsea.

Why? Because we buy players? You know Rossi wasn't exactly born in Manchester. He was brought here just like many other talents. No club can have a majority of home grown players in their troop if they want to compete for the big things.

Well this all but proves that the academy system just doesn't work. If Rossi of all people can't make it at United, what hope does any other of the lot have. To be brutally honest, Rossi has been our best player we've had in the reserves for years.

Pique will probably follow him out now.

What has Rossi got to do with the academy? He was bought at 16!

Thats the thing though, judging by his performances to when people actually gave him a try, he actually does seem good enough. It shouldn't be a case of what position the player coming through is playing to determine whether they have a future with us or not.

And can we really see Evans or Pique breaking into the United team in a couple of years while Vidic and Ferdinand and Wes still have loads of years ahead of them.

Is the academy just there so we can build up potential players then sell them to other clubs ?

He seemed like a good player to me, but SAF has probably seen something I haven`t. And it does have something to do with what position he plays in. Strikers compete for one out of 2 places in the team, while a defender competes for one out of four. Young defenders like Evans, Pique and Brown in his day can start as fullbacks as well, moving in later on. A team like United will always need to have worldclass strikers. We can however play with someone like O`Shea at rightback without that pulling us down much.

whats the big deal? rossi would have found it hard just getting a seat on our bench, it makes sense to cash in on him now while he is still worth something. he isn't that great anyway, good luck to the lad i say.

We bought McClair from Celtic where he was already proven as a striker -- Hughes was the last out and out striker who came from the youth system -- Though Giggs also came from there as a "forward".

My disappointment is that Rossi was great in Italy and obviously will be great in Spain -- replaced Diego Forlan ironically -- I just wish we had kept him for one more season ----

Hughes it was. My bad. I was a kid back then anyhow.

So that leaves us with what?

Rooney and two guys one of which is costantly injured and the other who is 34.

I'll exclude smithy as unfortunalty it looks like he is on the way as well...

Rossi will score well into double figures for Villareal.

He'll be bought by Barca or Real Madrid for 20m+ within a year.

And United will look like idiots. As usual.

SO angry!!!

Yep - and the likes of Campbell and Gibson must be considering just cutting their losses and moving on too

If they are good enough, they will be played....Rossi is a good lad but not quite as good as many seem to think. It amazes me how some become flavour of the month without ever doing anything to warrent it. I would like someone to tell me one game where Rossi has been more impressive than Eagles when playing for 1st team yet most people seem confident Eagles will not make it.

Kids. . .

And Rossi's 21 isn't he?

He's clearly not good enough. . . I've never been impressed.

I don't know if he is good enough, but he is surely better than Saha.

I still can't believe we sold him, FUUUUUUCK

I know everybody in football does it, but I hate the way fergie just blatantly lies about stuff like this. This is just a couple of days old:

"My biggest management job in the next campaign will be with the young players," he said. "Jonny Evans, Gerard Pique, Danny Simpson, Chris Eagles, Lee Martin, Frazier Campbell and Giuseppe Rossi.

''That's going to take a lot of handling. They are terrific young players and there's no way we'd even think about letting them go out on loan because they are the future."

Just not our future, eh Fergie?

might as well promote Frazier Campbell to the first-team, well I am too pissed right now.

He's probably going after Anelka if we sell Rossi and Smith.

I doubt it. That'd be surreal. He was interested in a striker, but told no chance. More likely to Berbatov than Anelka or anyone else.

And judging the the reactions, you'd have though we've just sold Giggs at his peak.

feckING GREAT :wenger:

Spend £30 million on two young players with similar experence to Rossi and let him go on the cheap. Goes to prove we no longer give our young lads a chance. Pique might as well look for a move now because he is never going to get a decent chance.

Lets now go out and spend a ridiculous sum on Tevez, i'm pissed off

cant agree with you Tom. Nani and Anderson are several notches above Rossi. Did not see the fee we are being paid...thought it was undisclosed...cant be less than what was being offered by Italian clubs...
Tevez will be worth every penny and more...and as for Pique...SAF obviously has plans for him...and the big difference is he has not demanded First team guranteed football...no player should be guranteed that....and SAF wont..

NewtonHeath FC will commit suicide tonight....

Anyway here is my take on Rossi.

I think he has been really unlucky as far as his timimng goes. Basically this Fergie's last hurrah, his last team. And given the level of competition right now in Premiership, he obviously feels he would rather a proven striker or proven world class talent than given a promising youngster a chance. As I said unfair on Rossi but given the fact that money is there to buy better players, Fergie is not taking or giving any chances.

Almost posted that as well, only with Rooney

That might well be it. Basically Fergie in another "position" in his career could have kept him and given him a chance.

It's disappointing because Rossi never got a proper crack in the side. But you have to say that £6.8 million is a good fee for a player who featured less than twenty times for the first team.

They way he plays and his diminutive stature means he always had an uphill struggle to get into our team.

I think he'll be suited to the Spanish League and will score quite freely. Certainly, I hope the lad goes on to have a good career. Realistically, if he was ever going to get a look in at the club he would have been a regular by now.

The club must be very confident of the Tevez deal going through because the failure to land him would leave us extremely short up front (assuming Smith goes as well).

rossi is quality. You'll see that at Villareal where he will prove what most people know. He can do it at the higest level. Spain And Italy. you'll see. Inspite of what some people say 4 in 14 isn't a shocking record and his appearences were sparodic. He set up more then a few as well. No one should be pleased but it's happened so we move on.

Or we could demands Fergie's head for selling a 21 year old, who's never looked the part.

Absurd reactions.

The guy scored one or two goals for us (?) and the rest or them in the reserves, and still he's a bigger star than Saha? Wow, that really makes sense. This is the first wave of the FM generation hitting us, you know when all these youngsters in the game all of a sudden is suppose to take the final step.

1. If we are making good revenue from the academy, it's worth keeping.

2. Although Rossi had good movement, touches and finishing, was he world class ?....... Tevez definately is.

3. We can only play 11 players on the pitch at any one time so we need the best of the best.
