All Rossi transfer speculation here please

This season.

But what if he wanted to move, was not prepared to take his chance ....................always assuming he was in our top 16 players

Or do we fling him in and risk loosing a couple of early games ... perhaps instead of Rooney or Ronnie or scholes or Giggs

has any one else considered that he's just surplus to needs, as i the style Fergie plans to play over the next two seasons doesn't require a striker like Rossi.

I don't know but you're not going to get a lot of productivity out of a 5'2, skinny as a rake centre forward in the Premiership these days.

Maybe Fergie was planning to use him as a winger and Rossi didn't want that and put in a transfer request.

I'm sorry but the correct response is "Sack Fergie, Sell Giggs, Foam at the mouth".

But what if he wanted to move, was not prepared to take his chance ....................always assuming he was in our top 16 players

I don't think he wanted to move. He came out about a month ago and said he didn't want to move and wanted his chance in the red jersey.

You don't have to fling him in. Over the course of the season he would come in useful due to injuries, alan smith not being good enough and the need to rest players like rooney. That is when he has to take a chance and prove to the manager he's good enough to start ahead of players like giggs or scholes. You could say the same(risk loosing a couple of games) about scholes and giggs when they first broke through, but they took their chance.

He wanted and expected 1st team football ---like on a regular basis --- and he was not going to get it. His agent has been on about a move before end of last season.

Rossi Wants Man Utd Chance

Manchester United striker Giuseppi Rossi says he is eager to prove his worth at Old Trafford.

zoom - galleria The Italian youngster was loaned out to Newcastle and Parma last season, catching the eye back in his homeland.

There was speculation that Rossi would again be loaned out this summer, with Porto and Juventus both linked.

"It is all a bit confusing at the moment," said Rossi.

"All I will say is that my main goal is still what it always has been - to cut it with Manchester United."

He added: "Joining Juventus is just talk. I've read about it once or twice but it's not on my mind."

Rossi is currently playing for Italy in the European Under-21 Championships.

He wanted a chance to make it with united. I don't think he wanted a transfer. I'm sure he wasn't expecting to be in the team week in week out, he probably wanted just a few chances to prove himself in the team before letting the manager decide. If players like richardson, fletcher were given stints in the first team, I don't see why rossi wasn't given one.

There is no point comaparing them with other players, Jones did not get a chance instead of Fletcher -------- simple, Fletcher was and is a better player. Richardson was like Rossi brought here as a bright young talent, he had more chances than most partly because one he was versatile and secondly he was left footed. Richardson could have gone to West Brom saf did not turn down a bid, Richardson was asked by Robbo he chose to return to OT and fight for place, now he has decided it's time to go. I am sure if Rossi had turned around and said I want to stay another season he would have had a few chances but he has chosen to go.
Go back about 10 years Ole had the same decision .........he decided to stay.

good luck rossi, sorry we didn't get see you enough in the first team.

here's hoping that we get tevez before transfer ends and that he and rooney are a revelation playing together and bang the goals in.

Just you wait. He does well for Villareal. He either stays or moves to another club. In a couple of years, 'new' noobs in this forum will start posting youtube clips of him and start claiming that we should buy Rossi. Just you wait.

i can see that happening. "we should sign rossi, have you seen him play". then someone will look through his bio, "wait a minute, the lad used to play for us. now when did this happen? why did we ever sell him off."

cant wait.

I don't believe all this fuss about him, he's a fine player and I'm also quite gutted that he is leaving but I won't go as far as saying that we are going to be interested in him in the future, or that he is going to be worth 25 million pounds sooner or later.

7 million seems like a fair price if he was never going to make it at United. Even if he does pretty well at Villarreal, it won't mean that we made the bad choice, at the end of the day even Forlan did well there, still everyone knows that getting rid of him was the only way.

I think he could be as successful as Forlan in Villarreal. Saying that anyone here regretted selling Forlan to Villarreal?

I think there is something that has been taken from granted in this whole affair.

Does anyone think if Rossi was willing to stay and fight for a position from the bench he would have been sold?
That we will never know. for as SAF seemed to indicated last night it looks like he and Carlos have been looking for another forward. If so, Rossi didn't have a prayer. And Fergie usually makes the right decisions for the future of his young players. He probably felt Rossi's best chance of developing was else where. But I'm just guessing here

Comparing forlan with rossi is crap. Forlan was given a chance in the united first team, and he didn't take his chances well. When was rossi ever given a stint in the first team, other than league cup outings? Never.

I'm a little gutted this morning as i kind of hoped this kid might be one of the sucess stories and i still think he's going to be one class footballer in the near future. I wish him all the best & put my faith in fergie.

We never do to well in selling players but hope we put in a sell on clauses

Aww crap.

The kid never had the chance to proved himself at United. And frankly, with the uncertainty surrounding Tevez, I'd rather him stay for the time being.

Anyway, all the best Rossi :(.

hmmm, not really. sure he scored lots of goals there, but the premier league just didn't suit him i guess imo. the only things i missed bout him was his scoring against liverpool.

not saying i'm glad to see the player leave, but if fergie didn't feel he was good enough or would be good enough in the near future, to secure a 1st team spot or even a spot on the bench i'll go with him. he's seen the lad play more often than the lot of us put together, he has a lot more experience in bringing through young tallent, i don't and i doubt many on here have, it's his job, i work in insurance ffs.

all the best rossi.

I've never been heartbroken to see a player leave. Cantona, Schmeichel, Becks, Stam, Keane... But to see such a young talent leave without getting a chance IS heartbreaking.

We've never regretted selling any young player. But there's always a first.

I'm amazed at the attatchment to a player who hardly made an impact at the club. Some of the comments on here are frankly astounding.

The fact is its totally incorrect to suggest that Rossi "didn't get a chance". Rossi had the same opportunities as every other player in the squad to impress the manager and training staff - and therefore force his way into the side. People on here speak as if Fergie had some personal vendetta against Rossi and deliberately didn't pick him. The truth is I'm sure Fergie (and everyone else at the club) would have loved Rossi to force his way into contention.

To me - a player should not be given a chance just because he has come through the youth ranks. This not only risks losing us vital games but destroys the notion that a manager should pick his best XI every week.

Its clear that Rossi is a talented player - but those who make the decisions obviously felt tht he was not quite good enough to deserve a place in the Manchester United team. With Rooney and Tevez infront of him he would never have had a chance of regular first team football so the move is good for him.

I wish the lad luck and I'm sure he'll do well in a league which is far less physical than the PL. United fans should be happy at the signings which have been made and support the manager in his decisions.

For £1.5 million?

Yes.

And I'd have him here over Alan Smith, Dong and a 35 year old Solskjaer which makes 3/5 of our current strikeforce.

1. So the reason we have an academy is to build them up and sell them on?, i thought the whole heritage of United was to "give youngters a chance".

2. Was Scholes world class when he came through the ranks, was Becks, was Neville ?

3. I'm sure players at United are full aware that there is rarely a player that is cemented to 1st team. Heinze seemed to have that LB position his when he came to United, but Evra has stepped up his game and Heinze has been left in his shadow. If your good enough, you should be given a chance.

Its the principle, we shouldn't be selling our talented youngsters.

If you think Rossi was as good as Scholes or Beckham at the same age you are mistaken he is not in that class.

he actually played 5 league games + 4 as sub in his second season with us when he was 18 which is about what you would expect for a quality player of his age and experience unless of course that player is exceptional .....which some of you suddenly think he is. I have watched him quite a lot and cannot for the life of me see anymore than a good player certainly not an exceptional one.

What a feck is wrong with Ferguson !

He said, United will keep Rossi and Pique in the club, that's what he said !

Smith had a very weak tour in Asia, Saha is not fit and very injury prone and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at the end of his career with injury.

Now, tell me it wasn't a mistake.

What a feck is going on !

We didn't sign Tevez, yet and Dong is a joke !!! We are with one class striker - Rooney.

Drama queens galore...

We were always going to sell players after the purchases of Nani, Viv, Hargreaves and possible Tevez, both to balance the books and to trim the squad to a managable size.

It is pretty obvious to me that the move is due to Rossi wanting first team football, more so than Sir Alex could promise him he would get at United. UNLESS there was to be an injury crisis, with Rooney, Saha and (if signed) Tevez all out injured, Rossi would not have featured much at all this coming season.

So Rossi lied? He made comments on wanting to be in first team competition. But it sounds like you're assuming he wanted to be a starter?

He's not that far behind Tevez in my opinion. He's more likely to score and a lot better off the ball. They are similar creative forces, but Tevez wins on strength and holding onto the ball.

Had he stayed, he should have been putting pressure on Tevez and ahead of anyone else aside from Rooney and the normally injured Saha in terms of pecking order. He would have got games and had he played well, more games.

They would have been dead long before then

Would probably have done the deed when United let Andy Ritchie go

Apparently he's better than Saha, probably better than Tevez too. . .and SAF should get the sack over this.

In a nutshell.

Surreal, bizarre, absurd and strange doesn't cover it.

The day before we sold Veron Fergie went mental at the press for asking him about him moving to Chelsea, he said Veron was a great player and we were never going to sell him, he'll say whatever will please people, he'll do whats best for the club.

I am not saying anyone is lying.

You've obviously seen much more of Rossi than I have, and he must have improved considerable over the last year if he is almost as good as Tevez. Fact is, if he was anywhere near as good as Tevez, don't you think Sir Alex would have just stuck with Rossi instead of signing Tevez?

Rossi would at best have been fourth choice, probably even behind the likes of Giggs, Ronaldo and Anderson as well.

He did fine, had a few games instead of Van Nistelrooy. He certainly done more to suggest he was a player than Richardson.

And he is exceptional for his age group, where he shines. He's not quite the same as Rooney and Ronaldo was/were but that doesn't mean he's not exceptional.

He was average. He didn't even look the part against lower league clubs in the Carling.

I suggest you go watch those matches again. He scored and created a goal in one of them probably making him man of the match.

He was average for an 18 year old playing in Ruud Van Nistelrooy's position. If Rooney had done the same thing he wouldn't have been amazing either up front alone.
