All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Bullshit! Tevez will become one of Europes most feared strikers in a couple of seasons.

Rossi will forge a very good career with plenty of goals but will not become one of europes best because once he becomes a marked man he'll be pretty easy for top defenders to stop.

Even if he does go on to become one of europe's most feared strikers in the next few seasons, who's to say Rossi wouldn't have done the same thing?

For me, scoring 9 goals for Parma in half a season at 20 is better than scoring 9 goals all season for West Ham at 23.

Tevez Personal Awards:

2007 – West Ham United Hammer of the Year
2007 – Hammers News Player of the Year
2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro's Best Player by CBF (Brazilian Soccer Confederation)
2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro's Best Player (Brazilian Placar magazine)
2004 – Olimpia de Oro award for Argentine most important Sportperson of the year (Shared with Basketball player Man Utd Ginobili) (Clarín newspaper)
2004 – Olympic Golden Boot (8 goals in 6 matches)
2003, 2004 and 2005 – South American Player of the Year (Uruguayan newspaper El País)

I'm sure playing for the same clubs Rossi would have won the same awards. I'm sorry, I've watched Tevez since he was 19 and he's a really good player - but in terms of age to ability I think Rossi trumps him.

just read most of this thread before getting bored. i didnt realise so many people rated him so higly. a decent player but not united standard. £6million is a very good price for him.

will pro do well in spain but was never had a chance of making it at old trafford?

trying to realise why so many on here rat him so highly ( better than saha i read someone say?????........come on lads, seriously), but i honestly cant think why?

You seem to think the development of footballers is linear, if Rossi is 5/10 as a footballer at 20 years old he'll be 8/10 he's 25, doesn't work that way.

Effectively the same thing. Whereas Rossi is a more likely goal scorer and a more graceful mover. See its best to have a blend of things in your side, rather than carbon copies of the same player.

He's a better player than Tevez was at 20 in my opinion.

Are we talking about the same Tevez who had won a south American U20 championship and a copa libertadores by the age of 20 because if we are your opinion isn't worth much is it?

Kleberson won a world cup. He's better than George Best, obviously.

Sad to see him go.Never given a chance to see how good he could have been.Leaves us thin on strikers to with Smith on his way..Maybe another striker is being lined up

Sure doesn't when you aren't given a chance.

Do you not think that if SAF thought he was good enough he would have given him a chance! It's not like he isn't willing to try out the younger players

I think you have to look at it from an alternate angle. What people call romantic - I don't think that's the case. Most people know the score he wasn't a local lad, he was bought in from Parma. The thing is there's nothing romantic about someone doing it week in week out. Rossi wasn't a player you hoped would do something. I think a lot of people under estimate how good the boy will be. Now if we were talking about Giggs you'd get the same reaction yes because quality is undeniable. Most people when youths are sold don't make a fuss. I think it's fair to say A LOT of people are sad that he's gone but it's more then that because we'll never know. If he'd played 100 games and not made it fine but ultimately it might come back to haunt us because he will score goals whatever league he's in. If Rossi had of had Rooneys build he'd have been AS GOOD certainly as Rooney when he was at Everton. So when you see the quality but it's not blossomed then people will be upset and that's not people being fools it's because they know he was so close. I don't blame Rossi for going and I don't blame the club holding him back because the fact is we could have done. Some people will live in denial about his ability but personally time will show how good he is. I have no doubts he'll be a success in Spain. I don't blame United either, the club didn't forsee Tevez coming to England and making the impression he eventually did and it put us in a position. People say Tevez is the better player! That's right. He is - but he has so much more experience and is three/four years older them him. I think it's sad - but we move on

United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Spanish side Villarreal for 20-year-old striker Giuseppe Rossi.

The Italian Under-21 international spent last season out on loan with Newcastle in the Premier League and, later in the season, his former club Parma in Serie A.

A club spokesman told ManUtd.com: "United has reached agreement with Villareal for the permanent transfer of Giuseppe Rossi for an undisclosed fee.

"The transfer is subject to a medical which is expected to take place in Spain tomorrow."

Rossi joined United from Italian side Parma in July 2004 and immediately impressed in United's Reserves, netting 13 times in his first 19 starts.

His performances in the second string quickly saw him called up to the first-team squad in November 2004, where he made his first-team debut against Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup in a 2-0 win.

A further 13 appearances and four goals followed, but the New Jersey-born forward couldn't quite earn a regular place in United's first team.

he didnt even get a chance!!!!!

I am actually gutted that little Rossi has been sold.:(
I have watched this kid for years in the Reserves and always found him to be nothing but committed to the cause.
Obviously, his own wishes have come into this move and all I can do is wish him all the luck in the future.

Bye bye ,Rossi...you'll be missed!

I genuinely didnt realise your depth of feeling or the depth of feeling around on the matter. you make some good points here and id go along with the build but the point is he's hasnt got it nor does it look like he ever will. We have rooney...its just a case of right place at the wrong time. He could have made up a strikeforce of 4 in another time i think. No one is doubting he has quality but its only an indication of the quality we have ahead of him. You're even making me feel upset about this issue and i think its quite obviously the right decision!!:(

Has anyone considered that the player may have pushed for the move because he was so far from guaranteed first team football?

I think there is something that has been taken from granted in this whole affair.

Does anyone think if Rossi was willing to stay and fight for a position from the bench he would have been sold?

I don't think he'd have been sold if he was willing to be on the bench. It also didn't help us not being able to shift Smith out the door. I don't blame the boy. Well done villareal

Fair play to you gus, you called it right. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of rossi but obviously wasnt to be. Good luck rossi, bring on tevez!

dont be silly, u not realise most of the people on this board know more than fergie or rossi about the situation

Gus it's a real pity. I think for everyone. Be sure to watch villareal next season, Rossi will be a revelation once he's settled. I'm disappointed sure but hopefully with Tevez coming in and maybe someone else we've still got a heck of a squad. No worries at the end of the day we all want wants best for the club - but maybe Sir Alex has something up his sleeve ;). We'll have to wait and see

Good post. Looks like I was talking shite when I was arguing with you earlier on today ;)

You talk a lot of sense. But I'm still gutted, mind you.

I think the reason this has hit a lot of people hard is that nothing beats watching a kid come up through the ranks and make a big impression. And that hasn't happened for ages. Even O'Shea and Fletcher (both of whom I rate) are regular whipping boys on here. To me, Rossi had that special something which meant he could make an even bigger impact. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Im only starting to realise (though i still dont understand!) the genuine affection of the fans to rossi... i thought it was more of the token gesture nature. Its very depressing on here at the moment. Hopefully the tevez signing will lift the mood? I agree with you relatively speaking rossi has got to be a miles better prospect than oshea but half of it is who you are up against. With rooney at the club the roles for rossi are limited...and he's unlikely to ever displace rooney. oshea gets away with it by filling gaps...This season will be interesting for him if we dont get many injuries...

Just hope we'll be getting some of the cash if he makes a big money move in the future. Sad to see him leave but 6.7m isn't bad business

It's fairly logical that one of the longest threads will have one of the largest number of utter bell end posts... but this thread achieved that on the first page.

I was expecting some bollocks, but Jesus!

Nobody leaves without sir alex wanting them to... rossi will have made it clear the only way he could stay is if he were given assurances that he got more games... faced with this, and knowing it was unlikely ferguson will have pushed the transfer through.

The smith thing im not sure has much to do with it.

I've never been heartbroken to see a player leave. Cantona, Schmeichel, Becks, Stam, Keane... But to see such a young talent leave without getting a chance IS heartbreaking.

We've never regretted selling any young player. But there's always a first.

:lol::lol::lol:

i gave up after 3 pages as the bollox was making me dizzy

Good luck, Rossi. I thought you would be given chance this season :(
