Apologies in advance for this long post...read what you will.
As this has basically been my pet project over the summer i have carefully read over all the posts and two stick out for me in particular this one from ferguson. I could have written that almost word for word. i bow to you ferguon:
rossi's sale is independant of smiths. smith will go. you cant stay where you are not wanted..the number of bids we are accepting left and right the writing is on the wall. I think Sir alex feels that we can manage this season with ole, saha, tevez (who will come, undoubtedley- i mean really is he going to stay at west ham?? All 3 parties want the same thing, its bluff and counter bluff to get the best deal...even if it goes to deadline day he'll come) and rooney.
The reason being that saha, tevez and rooney in sir alex's eyes are all capable of playing upfront alone. That means if we are short of options up top we change to a 5 man mid. giggs has played there more and more and anderson has been touted as being able to play a second striker...thats alot of options plus you chuck ole in if there is a crisis. its a calculated gamble from fergie. We get through the season with that then try again for berbatov ( or the like) which would give us the perfect strikeforce. he must be thinking now its better to wait for the right player than sign someone just for numbers sake. He'd prob like to have kept smith or rossi for extra insurance with the numbers but realistically without many injuries it would be an extremely fustrating season for both which ultimately could be detrimental to the club.
What i would like to add is that the reaction to this transfer is unbelievable. Get some sense of perspective.
With regard to rossi i wish him all the best..he's made the right choice in the sense that he hasnt gone to a super club where the same situation may develop...he's gone to a feeder club...and if he does well there he will indeed move for mega bucks. However those who claim that will mean its a wrong decison and it will come back to haunt us based on that are sadly mistaken. He could become a 20million pound player and its still the right decision at this time. ironically he was too good to stick around til he's 24 or 25 and wait for a chance...yet not good enough to ever displace wayne rooney. There was only ever going to be one outcome if he was ambitious, which he is. Look at it from his point of view...whatever was said he was never going to get enough chances.
