All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Nah, I said it before when we were first linked with Tevez that the only way I'd be happy to see him here is if it didn't hinder Rossi's oppertunities.

For me Rossi's future came as priority over the new signings we made I'd have been happy if all we had added to the side was Joe Red with another year to his name.

I have no doubts he'll be a huge success in Spain and will be commanding a £15 million+ transfer fee in 2 or 3 years time.

I'm not sure Tevez will fail (I think, whether he scores a lot of goals or not he'll always be a creative force) but I doubt he's going to be worth the cash we'd need to spend on him to sign him after 2 years.

like Forlan you mean!

Its a shame but it was expected, everyone seems to forget Giggs when it comes to the striker role, he played behind the striker (be it Smith or Rooney) in the run in last season, has played the role in every pre-season game so far and Fergie himself has talked about using him through the center due to his age, that left no room for Rossi.

Apologies in advance for this long post...read what you will.

As this has basically been my pet project over the summer i have carefully read over all the posts and two stick out for me in particular this one from ferguson. I could have written that almost word for word. i bow to you ferguon:

rossi's sale is independant of smiths. smith will go. you cant stay where you are not wanted..the number of bids we are accepting left and right the writing is on the wall. I think Sir alex feels that we can manage this season with ole, saha, tevez (who will come, undoubtedley- i mean really is he going to stay at west ham?? All 3 parties want the same thing, its bluff and counter bluff to get the best deal...even if it goes to deadline day he'll come) and rooney.

The reason being that saha, tevez and rooney in sir alex's eyes are all capable of playing upfront alone. That means if we are short of options up top we change to a 5 man mid. giggs has played there more and more and anderson has been touted as being able to play a second striker...thats alot of options plus you chuck ole in if there is a crisis. its a calculated gamble from fergie. We get through the season with that then try again for berbatov ( or the like) which would give us the perfect strikeforce. he must be thinking now its better to wait for the right player than sign someone just for numbers sake. He'd prob like to have kept smith or rossi for extra insurance with the numbers but realistically without many injuries it would be an extremely fustrating season for both which ultimately could be detrimental to the club.

What i would like to add is that the reaction to this transfer is unbelievable. Get some sense of perspective.

With regard to rossi i wish him all the best..he's made the right choice in the sense that he hasnt gone to a super club where the same situation may develop...he's gone to a feeder club...and if he does well there he will indeed move for mega bucks. However those who claim that will mean its a wrong decison and it will come back to haunt us based on that are sadly mistaken. He could become a 20million pound player and its still the right decision at this time. ironically he was too good to stick around til he's 24 or 25 and wait for a chance...yet not good enough to ever displace wayne rooney. There was only ever going to be one outcome if he was ambitious, which he is. Look at it from his point of view...whatever was said he was never going to get enough chances.

Good and sensitive post Gus. Clearly spot on.

Clearly alot of the posters on this thread don't understand some of the reasons why we haven't been able to win the european cup. Simple inexperiance, look at the experiance that the Milan players have then look at our striker force.

Most of the same people crying about Rossi are the same people who wonder why we get outfoxed time and again in europe, its called experiance and if we are to make waves in europe as well as at home we need to not be carrying pasengers in an area as vital as our strike force.

Our priorities next season have to be europe and Premiership and our squad has to reflect that which is why Rossi is better off starting at a club with lower expectations.

I'm not gonna have a go at Fergie, but it is disheartening when a player he has been bigging up for the last few years, one who Rooney said was the best finisher at the club, has been sold without getting a proper chance.

Tevez has no experience in the champions league and Saha has scored half a handful of goals in the CL.

Lets sign Inzaghi then? Clear as mud.

Gutted man, just gutted! Wanted the boy to stay. A great talent goes to Spain! I reckon he will be a hit there. I'll off to that part of Spain soon. Will buy him for my local team then loan him back to United.

Damn it - what a shit day

True, SAF also mentioned that Ronaldo and Rooney could be used more often as the striking pair.

Yes. Which means £26.5.

We've spent around £31m - £26.5 = £4.5m.

Money out Glazers. . . we could do with another striker.

im gutted rossi didnt work out for us..but fergie will let people go who want first team rather than rotation, he is very fair.
ive said it before, we should get nikola zigic, who could well be on his way to city, but a hi jack may be possible, he would imho be an excellent squad striker, he would be a complete alternative to those tight defenses.. and offer more penetration from set pieces.

Yes but he has won trophy after trophy in south america and is a full international all at he age of 23. Rossi simply will not become as good a player based on he's style of play and the 3 matches I saw him play in the european U21 tournament as well as the countless reserve games he's played.

anelka at his age and at the prices being bandied about 13million? is ridiculous.

don't get me wrong, i rate him and iwanted him at united earlier, but that was before tevez was on the radar.

tevez.rooney. saha/who?

Another striker will be brought in (on top of tevez).

If i were in rossi's shoes, i might have done what he did and leave united (and this is coming from a massive united supporter), because rossi needs first team football week in week out, and even if he competed well with rooney and tevez and saha, he's going to get more matches elsewhere. that said, i thought juve, milan, etc. were in for him? why villareal of all places>

:wenger::wenger:

you've just given the ans then asked the question. jesus.

It's much harder to win a champions league, sorry. And had he stayed and been given a proper chance Rossi just might have won a champions league.

To sum up:

1. Rossi wants to play football.
2. Rossi is about 1 meter high.
3. Rossi is unproven in the Prem.
4. Rossi plays in the same position as Rooney.
5. £6.7 is a good price for a club in debt.

All reasons to sell. The first and last being the most important. A bit sad, but true nonetheless.

if alan smith is still wearing a united shirt, no feck that, if he's even wearing a fecking training top with any Manchester United badges or whatever, i'm going to kill Alex Ferguson after this balls-up.

just goes to show what Ferguson says in the press, and all the shitty little stories that are put up on Sky every day are a load of bollocks.

Rossi is the same height as Scholes and 6 inches taller than Tevez.

It really was more a joke than a fact Ekeke. I am aware that he is not in fact 1 meter. He is however a little lightweight perhaps to be playing up top. Rooney and Tevez are short but big-buildt.

Good post. Looks like I was talking shite when I was arguing with you earlier on today ;)

You talk a lot of sense. But I'm still gutted, mind you.

I think the reason this has hit a lot of people hard is that nothing beats watching a kid come up through the ranks and make a big impression. And that hasn't happened for ages. Even O'Shea and Fletcher (both of whom I rate) are regular whipping boys on here. To me, Rossi had that special something which meant he could make an even bigger impact. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Bullshit! Tevez will become one of Europes most feared strikers in a couple of seasons.

Rossi will forge a very good career with plenty of goals but will not become one of europes best because once he becomes a marked man he'll be pretty easy for top defenders to stop.

Effectively the same thing. Whereas Rossi is a more likely goal scorer and a more graceful mover. See its best to have a blend of things in your side, rather than carbon copies of the same player.

He's a better player than Tevez was at 20 in my opinion.

Whats the point of sending him on loan if we were going to sell him no matter how well he did! He scored 9 goals in under half a season of football in a league recognised for its great defending in a very ordinary, if not poor, side. Good luck with Villarreal Guiseppe, hope you do well and am slightly gutted I don't think you got a fair crack of the whip here. Slightly weird deal this one.

If this means that Smithy will stay this was right thing to do.. Even if he does well in Spain(hopeful for that) he is just one of those players who are not suited for EPL..

Do you know how highly rated Tevez was at that age and throughout his career? Rossi's good but at the moment he's not a touch on Tevez.

Too lightweight for the premiership. Would have never been a +10 goal a season striker.
