All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Well, we better hope Tevez joins ASAP.

Can't see that happening. No one's going to budge over enough until they're left with no alternative, which most likely wouldn't be until after the 22nd, at the very earliest

Am I the only one who rates Smith in here? Obviously not a regular starter bit can easily open teams in the bottom half of the league up. Watford in the Cup semi and Roma?

People seem to think even Adi Akinbayi could've done that looking at how Smith all of a sudden's become a liability
I think you are certainly one of the very few who will keep Smith over Rossi.

Perhaps we should have traded Rossi to Villarreal, get Torres from Athletico, while Villarreal sent Forlan to Athletico??

Wouldn't that have made a lot more sense?

Exactly. I trust SAF but this time he alone knows what he is doing IMO.

let`s not forget that... event though it breaks most ppls hearts to see him leave, he has never been given a chance in the PL, maybe SAF and Carlos doubted that he was big enough, or strong enough to make it to the next level.

I think that there`s other motives for this too.... Glaziers wanting some money back from our spendings is probably the one, and with all the Smith, Rossi, Gaby rumours flying around - this has really become a warm up for a great price for all of them. With Richardson, these players sold will leave us with not much spent at all..

A couple of things:

I dont know if someone has pointed it out but Rossi is actually 20, not 21

Secondly, I think Fergie understood the basic differences between being a good player, which Rossi obviously is, and being able to fulfil his potential in the english game. Fergie and everyone who has seen Rossi play cannot deny his talent, but at the same time, its difficult to deny he has never been ready for the premiership demandind specificities (what a word!), and the sad or good reality depending on how you look at it, its that at the present time United cannot wait for unfinished articles who you dont know if they'll come succesfully or into another david jones.

I have the feeling Rossi will make it big at villarreal in a couple of seasons, but I doubt even with chances he'd ever make it at United. Like Forlan, like others. United have its particular demands that only certain players can complete and Fergie's record with youngsters is good enough to trust he'll never let go a player who could make it at United.

In an ideal world, I would've liked us to start the season with Rooney and Saha, even if Tevez did sign before the deadline.

What would it take for the fecker to go one, just one season without injury??

Saha is as good as almost anyone when he's fit, it's such a shame he can't stop getting injured. I honestly think he would be recognised as one of the worlds best if he was always fit.

-------------VDS----------
Brown-----Rio---Vidic----Evra
--Carrick-O'Shea-Fletcher
Ronaldo----Rooney---Giggs

Righto. That's the first team for Reading, and possibly the next game or two, excluding anyone who might not currently be available for whatever reason.

Defence - class
Midfield - bit rubbish
forwards - class

If Saha or Hargreaves are available, we can pretty much swamp all over teams, if the need be. Can't see there being any chance of Fergie throwing Nani or Anderson in, judging from what he's been saying.

Ignore me. I'm thinking out loud here

Gutted about Rossi leaving. Can understand Sir Alex though. Rossi wouldn't get as many games as he needs at this stage of his career where he need to develop the most, with Tevez coming in and Saha staying we are covered. I also believe Smith will be sold to Everton.

I genuinly believe we WILL sign another striker before the start of the season now. Please bring us Anelka.

Rooney
Saha
Tevez
Solskjaer
New Striker
Dong

I'd be more worried about VDS than where the goals are gonna come from. He's becoming a liability.

The sale of rossi hurts United more than it does rossi. before he needed to be assured he will get a proper chance, now is guaranteed a first team place.
just check up on la liga once in a while this season.

i support United but i cant support such decisions, i need to accept it since its the reality but i have no obligation of supporting or liking it.

am i being clear enough ?

and besides cant shut off my computer im working on something.

have agreed with you on most things...will have to disagree strongly here mate.

I am disapointed that Rossi is gone...disapointed in the lad for not staying and proving he is good enough to be selected...SAF is right not to gurantee a first place to anyone...same goes for that cnut Heinze...and that is also a big reason Ruud went...

trust the manager....he did not win 9 bloody titles making stupid mistakes....

FFS so much for the diatribe of 'watch the reserves and see United's stars of tomorrow'. This is shit!!! Thanks Fergie!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Apologies in advance for this long post...read what you will.

As this has basically been my pet project over the summer i have carefully read over all the posts and two stick out for me in particular this one from ferguson. I could have written that almost word for word. i bow to you ferguon:

I'm gutted.

But, I guess I can see the harsh logic of it.

Rooney and Tevez both fit the bill of shorter, fast, skillful players who are not target men. Saha can play upfront as a target man, and Berbatov, a true tall, strong centre forward has already been blatantly alluded to as a transfer target by Ferguson. Ferguson said we had been pursuing a striker whose club wouldn't sell him this summer. Quagliarella, Huntelaar etc. all were for sale, so only Berbatov fits that description of the players we were connected with this summer.

If Berbatov is on the way, and Saha is never healthy enough to be traded, then with Rooney and Tevez in the fold there is no long term future for Rossi at United.

Berbatov and Saha provide something different(i.e. size) from Rooney and Tevez. Rossi could not, skill and goalscoring nous notwithstanding.

But the question remains, with Tevez and certainly Berbatov open questions, who will play this season?

Solksjaer is slowing down. Smith should be sold. I thought Rossi should be given his chance this year while we had a need for one more player. But perhaps it would hurt team spirit more if Rossi had a good season with the squad and then was sold to make room for Berbatov(or similar style of player).

Oh well, in SAF we trust.

rossi's sale is independant of smiths. smith will go. you cant stay where you are not wanted..the number of bids we are accepting left and right the writing is on the wall. I think Sir alex feels that we can manage this season with ole, saha, tevez (who will come, undoubtedley- i mean really is he going to stay at west ham?? All 3 parties want the same thing, its bluff and counter bluff to get the best deal...even if it goes to deadline day he'll come) and rooney.

The reason being that saha, tevez and rooney in sir alex's eyes are all capable of playing upfront alone. That means if we are short of options up top we change to a 5 man mid. giggs has played there more and more and anderson has been touted as being able to play a second striker...thats alot of options plus you chuck ole in if there is a crisis. its a calculated gamble from fergie. We get through the season with that then try again for berbatov ( or the like) which would give us the perfect strikeforce. he must be thinking now its better to wait for the right player than sign someone just for numbers sake. He'd prob like to have kept smith or rossi for extra insurance with the numbers but realistically without many injuries it would be an extremely fustrating season for both which ultimately could be detrimental to the club.

It could also be Rossi wanted to play football and no one can begrudge him that. Rossi will be be a great player - note WILL be. He's fantastic technique, a good temperament, good goal scorer and creator. When people compare to Tevez and Saha it's obviously distorted. Saha is a great player in his own right but there are qualities in Rossi that Saha could do with. As for Tevez - it's quite clear that it's not everyday someone of his quality and experience at his age...becomes available. I don't think we wanted to sell Rossi but I think Sir Alex knows that Rossi is better then just sitting on the bench. It's a crying shame and when people talk about chances - it's clear he wasn't give a chance when you look at how many games Richardson etc played before being shipped out. If Rossi had Rooneys physique there's no question he'd have made it at United. I've no doubts he'll be a major success, time will show that. However......Anderson, Nani, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez...we know Sir Alex wants a good mixture of youth and experience and with saha a doubt, ole, scholes, giggs getting older i'm sure Rossi's age was an issue as well. Rossi will excell at Villareal no problem and incidently Villareal are a decent club. It was never an issue of size of club or money he just wanted football

What i would like to add is that the reaction to this transfer is unbelievable. Get some sense of perspective.

With regard to rossi i wish him all the best..he's made the right choice in the sense that he hasnt gone to a super club where the same situation may develop...he's gone to a feeder club...and if he does well there he will indeed move for mega bucks. However those who claim that will mean its a wrong decison and it will come back to haunt us based on that are sadly mistaken. He could become a 20million pound player and its still the right decision at this time. ironically he was too good to stick around til he's 24 or 25 and wait for a chance...yet not good enough to ever displace wayne rooney. There was only ever going to be one outcome if he was ambitious, which he is. Look at it from his point of view...whatever was said he was never going to get enough chances.

feck.... I watched MUTV and before a commercial break they said something about a big, exlusive news coming up.... thought it was some much sought after tevez news, but this I had not expected.... feck again!

Guess this either is a signal that United are VEEERY confident that Tevez is ours, or that SAF and Rossi has had some sort of argument regarding his rank in the club.

Selling both Smith and Rossi during this week will leave us with too few strikers, but remember that SAF said today that "this (situation with Tevez case going to court) forces us to look at alternatives".

We will buy another striker. Tevez or not.

I got my cock out when I heard that

Just saw this quote from fergie about the Tevez situation

"I'm confident we'll get the player, David Gill (chief executive) is also confident. It has been dragging on and it has been frustrating".

"Particularly as the deadline's at the end of August, therefore we have to think about alternative plans".

Shouldn’t really be selling Rossi if he’s thinking about alteratives to Tevez if the deal does not go through on time. Maybe he can still pull the plug on it, he should have at least been kept till January to show off what he could do, then made a decision, plus I bet his value would have rose with a couple of goals in a united shirt.

Disappointing :(

I'm confused. Is Hargreaves not expected to be fit by then? I see no reason why Nani wouldn't play if we need him too. I would expect us to play a 4-2-3-1 in the game as we did in most home games last season and Nani could be one of those.

Seriously, as far as I'm concerned this fecks up our summer.

I know, the thing is we have signed 2 players with great potential in Anderson and Nani both for around £15 million, then we sell Rossi who has just as much potential if not more yet he is sold for around £7 million, does not make sense.

so does this mean that Keano will be getting 'Smith' as the 'mystery star' from us if the Tevez deal goes through??

get a grip man.

Nah, I said it before when we were first linked with Tevez that the only way I'd be happy to see him here is if it didn't hinder Rossi's oppertunities.

For me Rossi's future came as priority over the new signings we made I'd have been happy if all we had added to the side was Joe Red with another year to his name.

I have no doubts he'll be a huge success in Spain and will be commanding a £15 million+ transfer fee in 2 or 3 years time.

I'm not sure Tevez will fail (I think, whether he scores a lot of goals or not he'll always be a creative force) but I doubt he's going to be worth the cash we'd need to spend on him to sign him after 2 years.

In a way he is, because he's spent 3 years developing in our reserves.

So he didn't start with us, he still played in our U18 team, and our reserves where he was the stand out player. If he's not good enough for a chance in our first team there's no hope for anyone else.

David Jones was another one Fergie didn't seem to have confidence in.

Maybe he's becoming a tad impatient with age, possibly because he wants instant success while he still can.

And David Jones is that good? he lost his place in the Derby team for the crucial end of season matches
