All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Still doesn't make much sense to me. We could have loaned out Rossi for another season and then made our minds up if we can't afford to give him a chance at United.

And as I said giving Dong a chance now will make a complete mockery of the situation.

Ideally I would've loved for us to have loaned him out for another season. But with our finanical position the way it is. it's not surprising really. Sad fact.

10M Euros is what the media is reporting, 6 year deal.

Not a bad bit of business, but I still think Smith, Saha and Heinze should have been shown the door instead of Rossi.

Whether Rossi becomes a success is another matter. The fact another big club have not come in for him. . . speaks volumes.

I think you are underrating his ability. The only time when he had a proper run of games, he did great scoring plenty of goal in a difficult league.

Great

We were short on strikers last season. To solve this, we're selling two of them without having brought anyone in

Good move that. Certainly wont be likely to feck us over in any way

Well, I said last year that he wouldn't make it at United. This was based on what I saw. . . I just think many on here are blinded by romanticism and the fact he scored 9 goals in the Serie A. I hope he makes it. . .and proves me wrong. I'll be the first one to hold my hand up.

told you he wouldn't make it at OT...

do you want a medal?...

Surely the negotiating team within MUFC would want a future cut of transfer fees plus additional fees based on Rossi's club and international appearances. So perhaps a better summary is he was sold for 6m with potential fees to come.

Sad to see him go, hope he does well in Spain. Who knows, maybe he'll come back to Utd one day, he's certainly going to be a class player I think. But I could never see him playing with Rooney, and Rooney obviously is always going to be in the starting 11.

he's a very good player....BUT...Sir Alex didn't know the whole Tevez situation would happen with him becoming available and unfortunately Rossi wanted games. People will see that. If he can handle his height believe me Villareal have a very good player on their books.

Shame, really liked him, hoped he would be happy as our 4th striker for the coming season.

Now let's sell Smith aswell though

Good young player, but no room for him. The recent U-21 tournie has boosted his price tag, and I'm sure he wants regular football. I say good luck to him. Fairly sure it won't haunt us though, unless we miss out on Tevez, and probably not even then as we have players like Anderson to play up front if need be.

Oh dear

Given his performance in Italy, a league possibly tougher to score than PL. I reckon that loan would have been risk worth taking.

I see your point, but too many loan deals would've ended up badly unsettling him. Wouldn't have made him any closer to the first team though which is where United's primary concerns were

The romanticism will always be there in case of players who have come through our system in whatever way. May be biased and blinkered thinking, but its bound to happen.

But I believe that he does have talent despite the fact that no leading club came in for him. I'm not claiming that hes the second coming of Maradona, but theres every chance that he could turn into a world class player.

Not every world class, or very good player had top clubs chasing him at 21.

We've replaced Rossi with younger and more talented players(Nani and Anderson). I really don't see the problem.

Anyone else, except me, who thinks and understands that it was right to sell him?

Yes, especially as to some extent it's about his career as well, and he's too good to continue being a backup player or loanee.

You never know the whole scenario though noods. Realistically, he'd be coming on from the bench for us once in 2 or 3 league games and continuing to feature heavily for the reserves. After half a season of regular first team football, he wouldn't have wanted to settle for anything less

Fair enough.

I hope these Brazilian and Nigerian kids that we've signed make it. . . we're always looking.

Smith is much better than most of you'll seem to think, by the way

Yes, a very realistic and logical statement. I would, in fact, go so far as to say that on his day, he is the best striker in the league.

Exactly. I trust SAF but this time he alone knows what he is doing IMO.

Wait with comments Chief.

SAF is not stupid. You will sooner or later hear the reason why Rossi was sold.
If we have Tevez there is no reason to panic, even if Smith goes.

The sad thing is that the young boy didn't get a real chance. But last season there was no room for expriment, and the season before that Rossi wasn't good enough. Sometimes life sucks.

But anyway. Good luck Guiseppe Rossi.

Oh, well as I said in my first post, Fergie probably feels he can't afford to give him a chance. We already have Rooney and Tevez coming. Plus Fergie hinted we have another top striker on our list supposedly Berbs and if he is planning to go for him next summer. Then wouldn't make sense to keep Rossi.

Why didn't he go to Parma? That move would have made more sense.

You're kidding! Villareal are in much better shape than Parma, and La Liga is in much better shape than Serie A.

Agreed. This is a last pre-season deja vu at the Caf after Ruud was sold. People wanted Rooney to continue setting the stage alight, Rossi to get first team football, Ole to feature, Saha to continue from where he left off, etc, etc

Classic case again of having one's cake...

Rossi will score well into double figures for Villareal.

He'll be bought by Barca or Real Madrid for 20m+ within a year.

And United will look like idiots. As usual.

SO angry!!!

Oh yeah, like all those other players who have left OT, and whose career has skyrocketed upwards afterwards... like... erm...

Yes, aside from the muppetry, I recall people being concerned that we were short of numbers up front. It was mainly dismissed as sillyness

Then, in January, Ferguson brought in Larrson, due to us being so short of numbers up front.

Now we have the same situation again, except with less players, and more injuries.

I wonder what will be likely to happen here

They've just doubled there money on Diego, and paid half of what they got for Rossi, that's good business by Villareal.

I'm a little perplexed at all of this, considering all the talk of Smith going, and of course late last season all the talk of Saha leaving as well. I'm a fan of Smith's always have been, but equally I thought Rossi had a chance. It seems that my choice in strikers isn't what SAF wants, as he's keeping the worse of the 3 at the club (mind you, he may not be able to sell him).

Let's hope United have inserted a sell on clause in the contract, as it would have served them well to do so, after Diego did so well for them.

I hope this is an indication that Tevez is going to be signed ASAP, and we shut the door on the going and coming. This sale will promote both Dong and Campbell up the order, but neither of them were at the level of Rossi, so we are going to have rotate and use the likes of Nani, Anderson and Ronaldo as a striker, when Saha is injured. One of the three we know can score us goals, but is that sufficient??
