All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Gutted he has gone without getting a chance in the first team. Good luck in Spain lad.

He showed lot more potential at United than likes of Fletcher, Richardson did. And they got ample opportunity.
And as I said everybody is not Ronaldo and start performing at 18. He had a good half a season at Parma and there is no reason to doubt that he won't have another good one next season.

I am myself surprised with his move to Villarreal though. Waiting for more news to filter through...

Fletcher and Richardson were homegrown players. We nicked Rossi from Parma and made a tidy profit. Could be a reason why they were given more of a chance. Not everybody's Ronaldo at 18, but Rossi's 21. . .and he doesn't really look all that special.

This really is no big deal lads n lasses, just calm down ffs!!

Clearly he is not good enough to be a regular starter at OT, and this will be proven in time

Someone name me one young player we have sold who has gone on to become a world beater......... well? I'm waiting........ exactly

You's lot have no fecking faith in Fergie whatsoever judging by the way you are fecking crying like babies over this news

I don't knwo fo any high cliffs in the Manchester area, but our good snse ahs just taken a jump off of one.

Bloody ludicrous decision. A real low point to start the season off with, nice.

Rossi came from Parma. He is not really a product of our system.

In a way he is, because he's spent 3 years developing in our reserves.

So he didn't start with us, he still played in our U18 team, and our reserves where he was the stand out player. If he's not good enough for a chance in our first team there's no hope for anyone else.

David Jones was another one Fergie didn't seem to have confidence in.

Maybe he's becoming a tad impatient with age, possibly because he wants instant success while he still can.

Rossi has had his chance over the years, if Fergie had seen something in him he'd of brought him back. Just because he's not playing first team football with us doesn't mean every game and practice session for a team he's been loaned out to isn't a tryout to get onto the first team.

You can't have a team who's average age is what 24 in the EPL and as someone has mentioned this is Fergie's last era and go at things and him and Giggs are gonna want to see another Euro cup.

Rossi can be good or he could be shite in which case you hot heads would be pissed we didn't sell him while the money was there.

Yes he showed potential in Seria A but he also didn't show much of anything for Newcastle in the EPL. Seria A isn't an ounce as physical as the EPL, maybe Ferige said lookit with a young striker we need someone like Rooney who is stocky and can hold his own against two burly defenders not a lad who honestly looks like he'd get run over by Terry.

I personally don't have any personal stake in Rossi so if his going brings us closer to signing a world class player or someone with more potential then so be it. He came to us when he was 16 not really homegrown talent there is he? Get over yourselves we have enough "potential" in the club as it is, no need stuffing our first XI with kids (don't give me the Scholes, Becks, Neville treatment, times have changed, adapt) and then when they turn 25 we replace them with young kids and so the cycle continues. To me considering Rossi's position, size and attributes it was always going to be him vs. Rooney for SS role and I for one was always rooting for Rooney.

Bollocks, a mistake in midfield is more costly than one upfront.

But the evidence is there for all to see. When did a youth player last make a challenge for a first team striker role?

In midfield, a young lad can come through and be supported by a cast of Ronaldo, Scholes and Giggs.

I don't know, perhaps he was too good to be placed on the bench. But we have worse strikers than Rossi who are still at the club in Smith and Dong

People get misty eyed because they are youth team players. I can understand the affinity towards them as a result. But realistically, Nani and Anderson > Rossi and Jones (probably).

In the past they'd have been given a chance atleast.

David Jones rarely even started friendlys.

How much did we get for Rossi?

Just under 7 million quid. Whereas if we'd sent him out on loan for another season his price would have doubled. I guarantee Villareal will move him on for 15-20 mill, this time next year.

I have th utmost faith in Fergie but he has made some kooky decisions in his time. And this will go down as his worst decision in a long, long time.

And if fooking Smith and Dong remain in our squad past August 31st I will start to wonder if he's completely lost the plot!

Yes the evidence is there BUT that doesn't mean that Rossi shouldn't have been afforded more time.Who knows with the attacking talents of Ronaldo,Rooney and Giggs he might have ended making an even bigger impact. In the case of our so called academy midfielders, Fletcher has had more than 3 seasons now and with the exception of last most have been mediocre.

Rossi was in an awkward position. He would have sat on the bench. He is too good for that role. Smith (for the moment) and Dong will remain and they are probably only worthy of a place on the bench.

Fergie wouldn't keep a player of his class and let him stagnate his career.

Agreed. The same reason you don't see an academy keeper playing first team football- too risky a position. Rossi was too hot headed to ride the bench some more and get experience from the best manager in the world. He wants first team football, fair play to him. He doesn't match Rooney with experience or size and to me they were always fighting for the same position and it was Rooney who would always be the one winning in that fight. Rossi didn't want to be an understudy to someone the same age as him so he left.

Maybe you wankers should stop and go "wait a tick, United sold the lad off because the lad wanted to leave not because they were forcing him to leave." If there's anyone you should be pissed off with it's Rossi who has abandoned the squad to play first team football. Your precious academy kid doesn't care about United like Scholes, Neville, etc he cares about playing first team football. Blame him...

I think Fergie was too hasty to get rid of him. Then again, he sees these players train every day.

I doubt it. In recent years the emphasis has been so much on the seniors to an extent that he relies heavily on the judgement of coaches especially McClair to know how the youngsters and reserves have been performing. Besides on the case of Rossi he spent last season away from OT.

Come on stop this "he has a huge heart" nonesense, Rossi is a better striker than Smith. I see nothing in Smith that suggests that he is capable of being a reliable goal getter.

I agree with that assessment BUT the prospect of having Dong or Smith on the bench just kills me. I'll rather have O'shea as our bench striker than Smith or Dong.

I doubt Fergie has much time seeing Rossi every day...since he was on the pre-season tour...Anyway, everything is set in stone...can't object the decision. I wish Rossi the best of luck. Dong should be loaned to a championship team.

Agreed. I really see nothing special in Dong. I don't reckon Smithy will be around for long either. Boro, Everton and Newcastle are all heavily linked with him today.

Sheasy is a Scouse-buster and can sit on our bench on day!

Agreed, except for Dong. Dong wouldn't be sold for much of anything, so he should be kept until we have a better prospect to take his spot in the reserves.

You're too young to remember them at a young age. Zidane's the only anomaly.

Young Kaka, Ronaldinho and Henry in the same sentence as Rossi.

Heard it all now.

Kaka at 21 was sold to Milan for peanuts (around 3 million) as other big clubs werent even interested. Henry at 21 was not considered good enough for Juve. Ronaldinho at 21 was not even good enough for the PSG bench.

I take it everyone here is questioning Fergies judgement are they? He was a very good Reserve team player, but obviously not for us at the highest level.

Correction: Kaka cost Milan more than £14mil, he was already a top top talent in Brazil and plus he came extremely highly recommended by Leonardo. Ronaldinho was more than good enough for PSG, everyone knew this even Ronnie himself and as a result he used to take the piss. Got into trouble several times with the management, he used to abscond to Brazil in mid season claiming that he was recuperating from "injuries".
