All Rossi transfer speculation here please

Fletcher and Richardson were homegrown players. We nicked Rossi from Parma and made a tidy profit. Could be a reason why they were given more of a chance. Not everybody's Ronaldo at 18, but Rossi's 21. . .and he doesn't really look all that special.
Still doesn't make much sense to me. We could have loaned out Rossi for another season and then made our minds up if we can't afford to give him a chance at United.

And as I said giving Dong a chance now will make a complete mockery of the situation.

Once Tevez comes, we will have a 60 million strikeforce, 70 million midfield and the most expensive defender in the league. How are we any different to Chelsea ? Even Chelsea's first team could possibly be less expensive than ours.

Supposed fan yet always quick to criticize MUFC. What do you notice about the following?

SAF has spent about 300m in the transfer market since 1997. Chelsea have spent that much since 2003. Prior to Roman's arrival, Chelsea were never favorites to win anything of note. Not until Roman went on a spending spree not ever seen in the sport.

i feel ambiguous to this

He has potential but ive never been 100% confident he'd make it in England, at least not at United.

Besides history is full of players not making it at one club but going on to become legends at others..win some, lose some

I just hope we inserted a decent sell on clause

I doubt Fergie has much time seeing Rossi every day...since he was on the pre-season tour...Anyway, everything is set in stone...can't object the decision. I wish Rossi the best of luck. Dong should be loaned to a championship team.

Do you think the Championship is packed with such low quality?, Dong wouldn't even make it at Leeds

This was not so stange at all. There are plenty of forwards befor Guiseppe Rossi and with us playing with only one forward I didn't see any other way.

Rooney (Saha/Smith/Dong)
Giggs (Nani/Park/Martin) - Scholes (Anderson) - Ronaldo (Solskjaer/Eagels)
Carrick (O'Shea) - Haregraves (Fletcher)

I guess it is one more to go from here. Specially if we sign Carlos Tevez.

Correction: Kaka cost Milan more than £14mil, he was already a top top talent in Brazil and plus he came extremely highly recommended by Leonardo. Ronaldinho was more than good enough for PSG, everyone knew this even Ronnie himself and as a result he used to take the piss. Got into trouble several times with the management, he used to abscond to Brazil in mid season claiming that he was recuperating from "injuries".
Think you are wrong about Kaka's fee.

But Kaka was highly rated before he made his move. He was in Brasils squad in 2002 WC even at 20. And Rossi still can't hold a starting place with U21 Italy.
But that's the point, Rossi doesn't have to be the world's best. He has shown enough though to say he could be one of Europe's top strikers in his prime.

Well, best of luck to the lad. Good deal for both sides i rekoñ. I just hoped Rossi And Gab would go to Juve. meh.

ten pounds for Rossi to score 10 goals or more, maybe even more than Ruud lol. imagine Rossi scoring 30goals... imagine the lost credit of la liga lol. Forlan Ruud and Rossi record attackers. lol.

Rossi will reach double figures for Villareal next season.

It's Diego all over again.

Without the hair.

;)

I do get why some are upset though.
Lots like MUM saw him coming through for reserves where he was breathtaking and thus feel cheated now. I guess you would feel the same if Evans isn't given a chance.
And secondly United fans have already attached certain romanticism with a young player coming through ranks to make it big. Loads of youth players get hyped up for this reason.

Why do you assume we are only playing with one forward?

We played a 4-4-2 all preseason.

Just because we got Hargreaves doesn't mean he and Carrick are both going to start.

Even Queiroz has recently been talking up United's entertaining attacking style of play, so I don't see any reason to believe we are going to play with only one forward with the exception of against the top opposition.

Dong won't be anywhere near the United first team

Agreed with Spoony on this. He was excellent in the reserves but unlike other leagues, it doesn't count for much in the Premiership. We have to look into the financial aspects of things during these times, especially in a season when we have spent heavily. Considering that, a poor loan stint would lower his value a lot. We have been wise and played it safe from a financial standpoint

Smith is much better than most of you'll seem to think, by the way

Its not about nationality or where he was born. Its a shame that the best talent to have come through our academy in several years is not even given a proper chance. Why not just close it down if we are only going to buy players for the first team?

As far as price is concerned it appears that the fee paid for Rossi is very similar to the fee we have paid for nani before extras.........Nani is younger and a full international and the fee paid for Anderson before extras...again younger and a full international. It has been quite obvious that Rossi wanted some guarantee about first team action and to be honest even excluding Tevez he would only play because of injury or as a sub in a game once it has been won.

yeah, all fair points

Do people in Asia actually buy Dong shirts?

there always seems to be a warped reality when comparing players. Rossi has massive potential. There's no point anyone slagging him off. He would have done well in the United team. people make assumptions ' oh we accepted an offer so fergie didn't rate him lala. It could also be Rossi wanted to play football and no one can begrudge him that. Rossi will be be a great player - note WILL be. He's fantastic technique, a good temperament, good goal scorer and creator. When people compare to Tevez and Saha it's obviously distorted. Saha is a great player in his own right but there are qualities in Rossi that Saha could do with. As for Tevez - it's quite clear that it's not everyday someone of his quality and experience at his age...becomes available. I don't think we wanted to sell Rossi but I think Sir Alex knows that Rossi is better then just sitting on the bench. It's a crying shame and when people talk about chances - it's clear he wasn't give a chance when you look at how many games Richardson etc played before being shipped out. If Rossi had Rooneys physique there's no question he'd have made it at United. I've no doubts he'll be a major success, time will show that. However......Anderson, Nani, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez...we know Sir Alex wants a good mixture of youth and experience and with saha a doubt, ole, scholes, giggs getting older i'm sure Rossi's age was an issue as well. Rossi will excell at Villareal no problem and incidently Villareal are a decent club. It was never an issue of size of club or money he just wanted football

Guarantee this will come back to haunt us.

He will be one of the very few if he does.........in fact the first young player since Giles who only went because he was a prize cnut and fell out with Sir Matt (discount Platt because he really was crap)

Given his performance in Italy, a league possibly tougher to score than PL. I reckon that loan would have been risk worth taking.

:(

Sad to see him go without being given a chance. However with Tevez coming, it was bound to happen.

that what I said in that highly retarded 500 page thread when the Tevez news came through.

:(

It may look like 2 forwards but we actully played with only one. And that was Wayne Rooney with Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo supporting him from the flanks. Even last year when everybody was saynig that we play 4-4-2 we didn't. We play 4-2-3-1 with free movement from the offensive players we have.

Kaka at 21 was sold to Milan for peanuts (around 3 million) as other big clubs werent even interested. Henry at 21 was not considered good enough for Juve. Ronaldinho at 21 was not even good enough for the PSG bench.

Henry was rated highly at Monaco, touted to go to Real at one stage. Kaka was rated highly in Brazil, we were interested but had no chance to obtain a work permit. Ronaldinho was the best player in the WC youth tournament. In case of Zidane, Kaka and Henry. . .they were all bought by big Italian clubs which gives an indication they were indeed highly rated.

Whether Rossi becomes a success is another matter. The fact another big club has not come in for him. . . speaks volumes.

I don't understand why we've held out for another 1.7million? We'll live to regret this, it's madness. Only yesterday SAF was spouting off the rubbish of the youngsters being the future of our club and he goes and sells the first name on that list.

However, we aren't 100% certain this is a SAF decision. But thats an idiotic sale when we haven't given him a feckin chance.

SAF and Carlos didn't see him as a long term choice and thought, now transfer market is in hype and Rossi's price too so lets sell him.

feck i thought we should have give him a chance...to be honest he is talented but i doubt if he's enough...and he probably runs with the ball too much now that we have tevez, rooney, nani, anderson and ronaldo...despite all speculation i thought he'd stay

what's next? do we sell smith too?
