Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

They'll probably go four at the back.

Any of the players in any order. Danilo cover for both LB and RB.

A midfield 3 that includes 2 number 10s? Garth Crooks, is that you? If they play that, they'll get overrun by any team in the top half.

That midfield doesn't scare me especially.

"Individually" midfield doesn't seem to be balanced, with 1 DM + 2 AM. It highly depends on how the manager plays the system. Specifically, the lack of combative/defensive nature in their midfield can be balanced out or offset by other interchanging positions, tactic, system, etc.

For example, last season, all else being equal, Pep tends to balance out their weakness in combative/defensive midfield by using/interchanging their fullbacks and wingers (with DM and CB sitting back of course). But in general, they play a more offensive setup and more prone to counter, as evidenced by their 2 losses to Chelsea last season. That's their weakness of course, by playing a more offensive setup. So if their attack is similar/close to/on par with Barca/Real (you don't just compare it to MSN/BBC, you judge it by the whole team/system/tactic), similarly, their risk could be paid off handsomely. (ie a high scoring game win against an offensive side)

PS svn: City has been primarily playing that midfield last season, although it didn't work out perfectly, doesn't mean it wont.

I have no idea how City can sustain such a big squad and keep everyone happy with game time.

Sanchez - Jesus
Silva
Mendy - Fernandinho - De Bruyne - Walker
Otamendi - Stones - Kompany
Ederson

The likes of Bernardo Silva, Aguero, Sterling, Danilo, Yaya, Gundogan on the bench. They'll not be happy.
You forgot Sane.

Pep has done it before. It isn't how I'd play but it is the likeliest formation City will play given he isn't particularly enamoured with Stones.

Mother of god... the market is gone mad again!

Monaco 155m+50m+60m+92m = £357m made from 4 players!*

*rounded the fees, cba checking them.

Monaco are making a killing in this market. If you moved the market two years back in prices, or even a year, they would not have got £200m for them. Mendy would have been £25m max, Silva maybe £30m, Mbappe £40m etc.

The team who runs his social media did. Probably by accident too.

Yeah but we could watch him in a city shirt holding a pen over his contract and ppl will still be expecting us to swoop in .

Gonna be a big signing for city and if he did hit the ground running I certainly make them title favourites , but that said I didn't want him at united .

Buy players who want to play for the club not ones who have turned us down more than once by the way .

I'm satisfied with our squad and how we started the season I expect it to be tough to win the title not impossible but tough and I am more than happy to see us fight for it after the past few seasons

Even if he came, he still wouldn't have covered our weak right flank, so, no point in going for him. I'm also satisfied but I'd be just a bit more satisfied with a winger.

Monaco accept £92m but Lemar supposedly holding out for Liverpool.

Banter

Alexis Sanchez is staying at Arsenal. That is the message from the club and it would now be a shock if there were to be any late turns to this infernal saga (it takes a toll, you know!). Manchester City came in earlier today with a second offer for the Chile striker – of £55m, plus £5m in add-ons – but it has come down to Arsenal being able to sign a new attacking player. Quite simply, they look to have run out of time on that front. They wanted Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and the French club demanded that they pay 100m euros for him. Which Arsenal indicated they were willing to do. But there appears to be insufficient time for Arsenal to now agree a package with Lemar, particularly as he is in the France squad for this evening’s game against Holland – which kicks off in about three hours. Were Arsenal able to get Lemar, they would have been inclined to take the £60m from City for Sanchez. But it is unlikely to happen now.

Griezmann isn't better than Sanchez..

24 goals + 11 assists in 3200 minutes in the league.
16 goals + 8 assists in 3000 minutes

30 goals - 19 assists total in 4200 minutes
26 goals - 12 assists in 4500minutes.
I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. Kinda amused me the mentioning of overrating, when he overrated Griezman himself. Sanchez is a mile and more better all round player than floppy hairband.

It's a smaller squad than United's? If you include Díaz, Foden (inexperienced youngsters), Zinchenko (possible loan), Delph (unwanted fringe player), Alexis and Evans, it's a squad of 24 players.

United has 24 first team players excluding the likes of Andreas Pereira, Axel Tuanzebe and Angel Gomes.

They'll probably go four at the back.

A couple of points:

- Adarabioyo is likely to leave on loan (Sunderland)
- since Mangala seems to be gone, I expect the Evans deal to go through now
- if City don't sign another left-back, Danilo/Evans/Fernandinho will have to cover LB and Sané/Danilo/Fernandinho LWB; far from ideal
- with Evans' arrival, there will only be place for one of Delph or Zinchenko in the CL squad

Even if Delph and Zinchenko stay (hardly relevant), I don't see how that can be considered a particlarly big squad.

You could very easily make the argument that both of Barcelona's treble-winning midfields included two #10s. Xavi was a #10 for Spain and Iniesta was always a wide playmaker, never a centre mid. Rakitic was a #10 for most of his club and national career too. Some would even argue that both Modric and Kroos are #10s - at the very least they weren't out of place when they played there previously for club and country. Likewise for Pogba and Herrera with us last year.

It will involve some adjustment from both Silva and de Bruyne but I think people take a far too rigid view on player roles these days, personally.

Jesus Aguero Sánchez
Silva Gundogan de Bruyne
Mendy Otamendi Kompany Walker

To me that is easily capable of winning the league. There's no doubt it's more attacking than we're used to in recent times, but then Guardiola's teams have already shown they can play in an ultra-attacking way without being critically exposed defensively. They have monopolised possession very well for the most part, and all of the players contribute well to the defensive pressing game.

The other thing to say is our treble winning team was probably as attacking as that. Two strikers, one ex-striker/#10 in centre mid, two attacking wingers...in both cases they only had one real anchor in midfield and then a pretty fluid, attacking front 5. Albeit the fullbacks in this case are a lot more offensive.

I'll regret this, but I'm actually starting to believe this won't go through. Please transfergods, I beg you

Can't believe people are frightened about him moving to City. If it was a wonderkid like Mbappe then I'd be worried.

What is Sanchez going to offer them? Maybe a few good years. Aguero albeit due to injuries doesn't look the same player. Both are 29 and it's not really a long strategy. Both of them and Gabriel wanna play in the centre position. One of the ego is going to get hurt.

Sanchez is better than Mbappe.

There's no guarantee wonderkids will ever maximise their potential. Signing a proven, world class player is a bigger threat.

Your post will make sense if Sanchez is on the decline.

Excellent. Best conclusion for his story is him staying this season. As long as he's in Arsenal there's no fear from him. He won't do anything significant there because of the toxic environment they have.

If it stays like this then good for us.

Should United go for him on a free? Hard to see why you wouldn't take him. Along with Greizmann :D

Agreed. He'll go for free to the club that offers him the largest salary. I guess he could try to move in January but I doubt it would happen unless City up their offer.

This will happen Arsenal don't have the balls to let him go for free unfortunately.
