Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Genuinely disappointed to see him go to City.

He'll strengthen City, but as a Sanchez admirer, Guardiola's ridiculous tinkering and often bizarre rotation antics make me feel it'll be a frustrating move in that sense too...

You'd think he'd want to go somewhere and play in his best position every week, that genuinely will not happen at City under Guardiola - the guy can't even leave Aguero in place for a run of games.

And yes, the front 3 of Jesus, Aguero and now Sanchez is fantastic, but still, you know Guardiola will somehow break the rhythm up - as a Utd fan I hope he does, as a Sanchez admirer I think it's a disappointing move.

edit - and Wenger is done now, surely, with this? City have been taking their players for a while but I imagine this one is a bridge too far given Arse's recent results. Think he'll leave before Xmas.

Yeah I'm afraid City are big favorites for the league now. Sanchez, probably the leagues best player, joining that squad is just an abundance of quality.

I think our Jose's not done enough in the market for us to go all the way, sadly.
City were favorites anyways. Besides, they have under-invested in defense. They ll have to outscore opposition in almost every match. That's a huge ask.

This is my feeling

If we play the "What would SAF do" game, I 100% think he'd be in for Sanchez.

He certainly would and if it were Fergie, Arsene would have sold him already for a good deal to us but it isn't Fergie, it is Jose and Arsene hates Jose.

I think you can't underestimate the importance of the bad relationship between Jose and Arsene in this transfer. Imo we never had any chance to get a deal through.

They won't. Their defence isn't great but it's hardly rubbish. Besides we were poor in attack last season and seem better this so players can improve.

Let's not pretend that Sanchez, an elite footballer, joining city is anything other than a bit shit for us.

Even if Sanchez is an upgrade (he's an upgrade for every single team in this league, mind), then somebody from City gets dropped. Even if they stick to the meme 352 they've been playing recently, you have to choose whether you play two (or in fact, three) new fullbacks bought this window in Wanker and Mendy or Sane and Sterling. Then you've got midfield, Silva, Bernardo, Gundogan, Fernandinho(?), Toure, KDB, possibly forgot somebody for what, three positions? Jesus, Aguero and Sanchez for the two positions up front being the easiest part of it.

It's all unbalanced as feck say what you want and somebody will be pretty unhappy, especially in the wingbacks/fullbacks positions. Somebody gets dropped.

What adding Sanchez does for them is immense. City are in a difficult group in Europe. Guardiola could possibly split his attacking options into two(one for Europe, one for PL).

They can go to Europe on Wednesday night and still have many fresh attacking options on Saturday noon to finish off teams. That's a luxury we do not have.

Mourinho better not complain this season about how fixture congestion is getting his players injured. He has a chance to sign a quality talent right now but he's passing up the opportunity.

And you have absolutely no idea if he really is.

Can't see Arsenal signing Lemar. If the bit about Lemar is true, Sanchez is staying till...January. City will sign him then. He'll be eligible for the CL.

City's squad is already ridiculous and now they're adding the league's best player as well. It's tough to compete like this and it will be a small miracle if they don't win the league. fecking cheatcode money.

I genuinely don't think Monaco will sell Lemar, they would have done it by now if they were going to and they really seem intent on keeping him for another season.

I highly doubt they've been waiting for a 60mil+ bid let alone 90mil. Hes not THAT good. Based on this, I think (and pray) Sanchez stays.

He's easily worth 60mil in today's stupid market. The guy had a better than Bernardo Silva.

I am 100% certain that Arsene Wenger will find a bid of Ashley Young + £55m highly irresistible.

Wenger needs a direct replacement for Ox. Ashley Young fits the bill incredibly. What is Woodward doing?

Sanchez isn't the league's best player. It is Hazard, IMO.

Not sure. Both offer the same threat from the left but one scores and assists more often. It was only last season Hazard started adding a good few goals to his game.

Last 3 season since Sanchez was in the league:

Sanchez 53 goals
Hazard 34 goals

Wait, wasn't it you who created that 'why is Mourinho a coward' thread?

Edit: oh, it was, as you were.

He has zero inclination to give it a 1

Hazard plays in a much much less expansive side. A lot of his goals come from individual brilliance.

There is no doubt that Sanchez going to City is bad news. But I don't think it has suddenly made them unbeatable or unstoppable than before. City were a force to reckon with even without Sanchez. It would have been pretty tough to beat them for the title.

Hazard creates more chances and is more likely to cause havoc.

What are the odds on Arsenal letting Sanchez go to City and then promptly fecking up the Lemar deal.

Want this to fail but it almost seems inevitable that the Arsenal Board will fold and take the money. I don't know how Arsenal have the audacity to say that they have no money when they charge their fans the most for tickets.

They want the Lemar deal to conclude first and then only they'll sanction the Sanchez sale.

This season perhaps.

But the last two time we won it, no. We were rock solid under Mancini and pretty decent under Pellegrini.

I'm pleased if as it seems we have signed Sanchez and understandably I guess, I would not swap our squad for any other (in England). But we are definitely "top heavy". Otamendi is clumsy and error prone, Stones never impresses, Kompany I am expecting will be out with injuries, and question marks remain over the keeper. Full backs improved yes.

But against park-the-bus sides, you need to be able to grind out 1-0 wins, and I am not convinced we have the team to do that. We'll compete for sure, but a slam dunk, it is not.

No matter how you look at it, £60M for Sanchez is a great deal.

Should one get him for Fantasy?

60m means didly squat if they don't get a replacement.
If Arse sell and don't sign anyone, there's 0% chance of getting top four...zero.

They aren't getting top 4 even with Sanchez. This is why they would rather sell than lose him in January for half of that price.
