Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Perhaps, but there has been no suggestion or hint that we've even made an effort to sign him. Trying to pretend we know he knows he doesn't want to sign for us isn't fooling anyone.

And there has been no suggestion that we 1) have not asked Arsenal for permission to speak to him 2) actually haven't spoke to him 3) haven't been rejected by him.

It's easier to throw shit at Woodward and Mourinho and scream 'DO EVERYTHING'. Everything what? fecking kidnap him?

They should keep him over receiving £60m. There's small hope that he will re-sign there during the season and he'll be essential to any hopes they might have of finishing top 4, and that's worth £60m alone probably through reward money and sponsorships (if not more, all things considered). Without Sanchez Arsenal have no chance of finishing top 4 this season.

On the other hand they might not make top 4 anyway, like they didn't last season, and then they'd just miss out on £60m.

This stuff 1, 2, 3 leaks out when it happens. There's no way if we'd made an active effort to sign him that there wouldn't be a leak about it from someone.

Good to see someone else on here talking sense.

Isn't that how we got Berbatov?

We're overdue a good Deadline Day Ambush.

This obviously strengthens City but don't forget this likely means less Aguero and we have yet to see if they've properly addressed their weaknesses at the back. They started the year as title favorites in my opinion but this wouldn't make them unbeatable.

No doubt if i was Wenger i'd be doing the ol', Ed "My fax machine suddenly broke" Woodward, on this.

Like it really should've been done weeks ago and replacements bought, at this stage (and many an earlier stage) it's gross incompetence to sell

Could care less if City bring in Sanchez. He doesn't strengthen the weaknesses that exist in their squad. Diminishing returns on adding another attacking player to the numbers and quality they already have in the forward positions.

Yea the same way Lukaku and Matic also don't address our weakness from the wings and fullbacks but still managed to our improve our squad quite a bit.

Arsenal are going to fade away to mid table mediocrity, as they've been behaving like a mid table team for years now. It's quite embarrassing for a club like them to sell their star players to rivals to consistently.

If City get this across the line I think it makes them strong favourites to win the PL.
If they have Sanchez, Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, De Bruyne, Sane, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, David Silva.. They shouldn't just be favourites to win the PL. Guardiola should be sacked if he doesn't win the quadruple

City will be hard to live with when this goes through. I dont think Jose was active enough in this window.

If City sign Sanchez it is hard seeing them not winning the league.
Jose/Ed should have done more to sign a winger. Signing Lemar would have been perfect on many levels

While Sanchez is a good player, can I remind the "Matic is too old" brigade that Sanchez is close to the dreaded 30 as well. He's a good player, but not the answer.

I'd argue that with the options city have up top, he wont actually make that much of a difference, if anything it'll be extremely hard for Pep to keep them all happy. And City still cant defend for shit without Kompany, so they're not quite as invincible as people seem to think here.

If Mourinho wanted Sanchez, we'd have done something about it by now. Likewise Mahrez, Likewise Aurier. Mourinho identifies the areas he wants to improve and we go from there, put a bit of trust in him.

Its not a requirement to spend big on deadline day, people need to relax

Being clinical in finishing chances, getting in behind defenses and being threatening on the counter are weaknesses we had last year. Lukaku helps to address that.

Having a holding player that freed Pogba to focus on playmaking and moving up the pitch was a weakness last year. Matic helps to address that.

We still have a weakness in width from attackers and fullbacks which will need to be addressed moving forward. I'm sure Mourinho is aware of that as his interest in Perisic indicates and will be something that we look to addess moving forward.

City have weaknesses in central defense and midfield. They haven't brought in players to address those weaknesses, while reinforcing an existing strength in attack with additions like Bernardo Silva and potentially Sanchez. They did strengthen their issues at fullback in a major way though those players have yet to have the impact they should once they get acclimated to Pep's demands.

Name a Premier League winning team with a terrible defence?

Yeah I'm afraid City are big favorites for the league now. Sanchez, probably the leagues best player, joining that squad is just an abundance of quality.

I think our Jose's not done enough in the market for us to go all the way, sadly.

They should be winning every game even if they concede 3 every game with those attacking options

Besides I'd say city's defense is at least on par with the holders Chelsea. Luis and Cahill aren't anything special.

Even if Sanchez is an upgrade (he's an upgrade for every single team in this league, mind), then somebody from City gets dropped. Even if they stick to the meme 352 they've been playing recently, you have to choose whether you play two (or in fact, three) new fullbacks bought this window in Wanker and Mendy or Sane and Sterling. Then you've got midfield, Silva, Bernardo, Gundogan, Fernandinho(?), Toure, KDB, possibly forgot somebody for what, three positions? Jesus, Aguero and Sanchez for the two positions up front being the easiest part of it.

It's all unbalanced as feck say what you want and somebody will be pretty unhappy, especially in the wingbacks/fullbacks positions. Somebody gets dropped.

The league is not won by the pundits favourites.

90M for Lemar. Le Prof wont be able to sleep knowing that he allowed that kind of money to be spent in his time at Arsenal
