Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Why do players always use us like that

I would love Alexis, but just can't see it happening. Why would arsenal strengthen us when they could easily sell him to the likes of Bayern.
I think some would hope that Arsenals board would consider a "mega offer", especially with them missing out on UCL money.

But yeah, just can't see this happening.

Even if we did offer that, why would he choose us... Bayern, Chelsea etc are better options for him

Nah, I'm not saying he'll choose us. Just that I'd assume most see a chance if we offered the most of all clubs, to their board. Either scenario (Chelsea or city not matching our offers or the board sanctioning a sale to a rival) is unlikely anyway.

If Sunderland get 93 million for their season from one source then Sanchez is a 100m player in today's market. He'd be worth an offer even though it being accepted is unlikely.

But that shouldn't stop us from trying. We should just make a huge bid and see where it goes. We have money, we have CL, we have won two trophies. If he doesn't choose us or Arsenal straight out refuse then fine. But it's our duty to atleast put in a bid.

There is no way anyone can know whether we met Sanchez agent or not, who knows maybe we got firm no from them.

Agreed. Whether that is approaching the club or his agent, we should at least try.

I think this will be a three horse race between us, Chelsea and City. If Bayern wanted him and was willing to pay what Arsenal want for him, the deal would have been done already. Bayern have some brilliant wingers in their squad and they will probably not be willing to pay more than 35-40 million pounds for him because of his age and contract situation. Can't see him being tempted to go to PSG either in this stage of his career. He will force his way out of Arsenal this summer, but my guess is that he stays in the PL. Can't see why Arsenal would want to keep him and Özil if they don't sign new contracts, as they will have a terrible season until late February, when they have to show off their skills in order to get huge contracts from bigger teams.

Why would it be done already? We certainly won't just throw money at him. Also, we never have been keen on announcing anything before the season really ended. I wouldn't expect anything until after the Champions League final.

PSG pull out of Alexis Sanchez chase

Good news for Arsenal fans: Ligue 1 side PSG have pulled out of the race for Alexis Sanchez because they cannot match the salary offer that the Gunners have made the Chilean international, according to Le Parisien.

Internally at PSG, Sanchez as a target is now considered too difficult and too costly. PSG do not want to match the €320k a week offer that Arsenal have made to keep Alexis. If Les Parisiens were to give in to these demands, that would make Alexis the highest paid player in the dressing room, which would cause serious problems.

PSG are now expected to turn their attentions squarely towards Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who was present at France’s 5-0 thrashing off Paraguay last night in Rennes.

Hmm, I can think of a club that can offer wages like that... :smirk:

I dont think Arsenal can afford a 50 million asset to just leave for free in a year

Why? They'd get another year out of him (which he will play and perform or he will hurt himself). Not like Arsenal is exactly strapped for cash, they just refuse to spend it. I think the hit of selling him to a rival in the same league would be w

Lewandowski literally agreed to a contract the moment he was able and I'm pretty sure Hummels had games left when you were tapping him up to join

Pretty different situation though with contracts running out.

The fact that Bayern won't throw money at him is my point exactly. Arsenal will ask for a stupid amount of money for a 28 year old player that wants out of the club and has one year left on his contract, and his salary will probably be huge as well. I am not saying that Bayern can't afford Sanchez, but it wouldn't be typical of Bayern to pay big money for him. The Champions League final doesn't matter as neither Arsenal og Bayern are involved. Last summer they confirmed the signings of Hummels and Renato Sanches early May, well before the CL final. Bayern do their business early, they even confirmed the signings of Süle and Rudy in January.

Sanchez IMO will be the most ideal signing if Jose wants to find someone who is similar to Griezmann.

can cover the winger spot and striker and proven to be able to score a lot of goals. He can dribble, can pass the ball and know how to create chances as well. If we offer Arsenal and him a lot of money I'm sure we can get him.

I'd be fine with Sanchez being our most highly paid player.

Just give him Rooney's wages and stick an extra 100k a week on top as a cherry, and it'd feel (to us fans) like we were getting Sanchez for 100k a week, given how little Rooney's played this last season, and how long he's been sat on these huge wages.

Well if AG don't want our money, time to tempt AS with it. Just need to remind him how quickly RVP got his league trophy after joining us

Didn't Sanchez refuse Liverpool's offer because he wanted to be in London?
Don't understand why he would now choose City.
Is Pep the reason?

If he goes to City, would likely be for pep. Pep brought him to Barcelona

Really don't understand Sanchez's priorities.
He chose a club that's never won a league title in a decade (and wasn't good enough to win one) because of the lure of the city.
And now wants to leave that club because they don't win leagues/UCLs?

I don't think he'll come to United either but that's not because of Wenger. If Sanchez pushed for the move there would be very little Arsenal could do, especially when the alternative is losing him on a free next season.

Wenger would never sell a top player like Sanchez to Mourinho. He'd prefer to have the player leave on a free than sanction a sale to a man who he clearly doesn't like.

Players have way more reasons other than football in making decisions and signincontracts. It's the same as in any other job where you'd consider all other things like quality of life, work environment, etc in making a decision when going to a new job or career path. The idea that footballers are immune to these decisions is fairy land.

Liverpool wasnt a better option at the time, as they they were selling their best player, Suarez, to Barcelona (essentially to replace Sanchez)

On the other hand, Arsenal offered CL football and had bought Ozil previous sumer for £40m+. It was like Wenger had turned a new leaf, but sadly.........................

This will never happen. Even if we offer £60m it isn't worth it to arsenal to sell their best player to us. They don't really need the money and the message it sends to their players and fans would be terrible.

Yeah... can see him going abroad (bayern? Juve? ) can't see arsenal selling him to us or indeed anybody in the uk

While I agree with you and it is highly unlikely the fact is, its not up to the club at all. If the player decides he is moving then all you can do is sit him in the reserves until he joins said club the next season for free. Players have all the power. Unless you think arsenal wanted to sell us RVP!

The idea that the club paying the player's wages has zero say in whether he's sold or kept is silly. RVP was sold only because there was a good relationship between Fergie and Wenger and the latter AGREED to sell the player. As long as Wenger is the manager of Arsenal he won't SELL his best player to Mourinho no matter how much Sanchez throws his toys out of his pram. Moreover, they're not in a financial position where they still need to sell their players to finance transfers. The atmosphere around the club was already toxic this past season, selling Sanchez to Utd would just exacerbate that situation.

How is anything at your toxic club Uniteds or our new signing Sanchezs problem. (Sould he sign)

Keeping him only makes it even more toxic as he will now surely do a tevez and not play... No club has a choice anymore. If the relationship is good he will just agree to go abroad but if we are the best deal on the table. He could be swayed, there is no loyality in football. Dont fool yourself to thinking his agent has anybodies best interest at heart but his own and his client. They usually are the same as one gets paid higher so does the other.

Wenger did not want to sell RVP, but had no choice. And he definitely didn't want to sell him to a rival. Is your memory that bad how you dont remember that summer?

I doubt it will happen because I doubt Alexis will want to come to united.

RVP wanted in because our manager was SAF and we were the top dogs in the premier league. Currently, United are in a similar position to arsenal, so if he jumps ship, I'm sure he'd be looking to go to a club in a better position. A ready made team like Munich.

He also said he would like to stay in London, and if he's on the market, I'm sure Chelsea will join the race to buy him.

Either of these teams will be in better position to sign him.

I already said it was unlikely. But why not test the water. If our offer is the best it gives them something to think about and ensures he dont go on the cheap.

Be sure they'd no more want to do business with chelsea as us but we shall see. Think people reading way to much into wenger vs jose also.

Firstly, I'm a Roma supporter. Secondly, I think you're not looking at the entire situation logically. We know Wenger didn't want to sell RVP, it's wasn't a secret. However, the situation then and now are vastly different based on the fact that the dynamics around the both clubs have changed since then. Utd has a new manager, Arsenal doesn't. Wenger and Fergie were very cordial at the time and most importantly, they sold players as a means of buffering their transfer budget. Do you honestly think that if Mourinho was the manager of Utd back then that RVP would have been sold to Utd?...really??? Wenger would have preferred to keep him on the bench than sell him to a Mourinho managed Utd side in the Premier League. If he left on a free the following season then so be it.

Sanchez is a great player. If we get him, then I wonder why we didn't get him earlier. There is so many chances to buy him yet time and time for whatever reason we just didn't feel we should get him. Let's move on, get a winger that can play for the next 10 years. Maybe another 17 yo like Ronaldo.

Wenger is a pragmatic manager. RVP would still be sold maybe not to United but definitely oversea. No manager to keep a unhappy player on payroll when he clearly wants out. Football is football and then you business like managing your P&L.

We should be going crazy to make this transfer happen. It might not but we should be doing everything we can to try.
  1. He's a world class wide player
  2. He's got a champions attitude and fight
  3. He's proven in the premier league
  4. He scores goals for fun from midfield
  5. He's got 1 year left on his contract
  6. We can easily afford to pay him whatever he wants
He's perfect for us, a safer option than Bale/Griezmann etc, we should be throwing money hand over fist at Arsenal.

This situation reminds me of when Arsenal bid £40 million + 1 for Suarez. If they'd thrown an extra £10-15 million at Liverpool they could have had Suarez leading the line instead of Welbeck and Giroud and could have had Sanchez and Ozil behind him. They would easily have been league champions at least once.

I think he's a fantastic footballer. He would greatly improve us but I don't see this one happening.
