Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Well the Ronaldo situation is something completely different. He openly said he wanted to leave and specifically to his dream club. Signed a deal with us in what looked like a gentemans agreement before selling him on the year later. I just cant see how Arsenal/Wenger can allow it to happen. I will go with my gut and say hes staying and will sign another deal anyway.
You are missing the point.

Firstly SAF convinced Ronaldo to stay one more year as Real wanted him. We could of said no and the best player in the world would of walked on a free anyway. He trusted SAF and they did indeed come up with an agreement that stay one more year, sign a new 5 year deal on way better money and we'll allow you to go next season IF Real and you still wantted to do business. The little bit of him being the new most expensive signing, played nicely into his ego of what he seen himself as. And lets face it, it worked well for all parties concerned, only downside being... The point... We lost our best player and there was nothing we could do to stop him leaving. It was either be wise and get paid or he would of walked for free.

This "deam of playing for Real" dont really matter here. If Sanchez wants out, he is gone and where he goes is Sanchezs choice alone. Arsenal get no say in the matter. But can try to get a good price/play hardball to prem clubs and accept less for other non-prem clubs. Its about all they can do and hope Sanchez will opt for one of his foreign suitors.

I think Sanchez is a better signing than Griezmann personally. You could push for it but you can't help but feel it'd take silly money for Arsenal to let him stay in the PL.
Depends what you call silly money Dan.
Ars can reject bids around 40m with no problem but will they be able to say no to around 60m for a 28yo with one year left on contract who clearly wants out?

He rejected us twice, I don't think we will go for him, unless Mourinho has a word with him.

He'd be excellent under Mourinho. Does defensive work as well and gives a lot in terms of effort, on top of what he offers in creativity and goals.

Wenger selling to Jose .... There is absolutely no chance of that happening whatsoever. We have better chances of getting Neymar and Messi.

If we got Lacazette/Bellotti and Sanchez, we'd be much more dynamic up front - it would offset the Griezmann loss. i'd throw some money at Arsenal and try and get Sanchez.

Exactly. in this current market, arsenal will not find a like-like replacement for sanchez at 40m, they can get a Mahrez for 40m and get at least 20m to fill other needs. Its going to be hard to say no to a EPL team at 60 plus, if Bayern is the only willing party and just going to drop a low ball offer of 35m.

We can't really offer anything more than Arsenal at the moment outside of UCL. They won a trophy and probably will break their wage structure to keep him.

Still, I'm not sure if he would really be a success here.

We gave 'em Welbeck and Silvestre; only fair we get RvP and Sanchez off them. That, to me, sounds very, very fair.

He'd be a success wherever he goes, let alone here.

Didn't Pep use him off the bench? Pep is known for players having to do exactly what he says a bit like Jose. Wenger is known for players having more free roles and free creative spirits usually excel under him, as Sanchez does. Perhaps he doesn't like to be shackled as much and suffers when he isn't allowed to think freely.

I'd put in a bid for him for the banter to be honest. Not because I think we would get him, but just for the Arsenal meltdowns.

Pep said Sanchez' only problem was that he was in the same team as Messi. That's ridiculously high praise tbh, which is why I'm saying Sanchez would be a success pretty much anywhere right now. He's become a better player at Arsenal too.

There's about as much chance of Wenger selling Mourinho Sanchez as there is of Arsenal signing Mbappe.

Should be our number 1 target this summer. We should be doing everything we can to tap this guy up including offering his dogs some benefits

Wasn't he competing with Pedro and it was Pedro getting more game time at the end? I might be wrong there just the odd time I would tune it that appeared the case. Whatever I personally would go for him but I'm happy to watch Jose bring in his type.

Not sure, but even Pep agreed that he misused Sanchez in his time which pretty much rules off any player-related issues during his time at Barcelona.

Pep's quotes in December: "He played really good in Barcelona but normally when you play with [Lionel] Messi all the players behind him are not at his level. In Barcelona maybe I didn’t help him too much because he played wide. He can do that but he is better between the lines, closer to the goal"

Go all out for him, I say. The money we are hearing for far inferior players is scary. Bid 10-20 more than Bayern so they can't say no. We'd still be lower or in the ballpark of other players' pricetags. Turn his head with Rooney level wages so he can't say no. Sorted.

Weakens Arsenal.
Stops the likes of City and Chelsea strengthening even further.
Almost certain to have a Van Persie-esque impact for us.
Can do all things and more Lukaku can and could cost less.

£60 mil should do it.

Wenger won't sell to us in a million years. He's already in the dog house, there would be riots if he sold Sanchez to us.

As long as Sanchez is ok with it, they will sell to the highest bidder even if it's us. SAF said he wouldn't sell even a virus to Madrid and we know what happened next.

If Sanchez says no to a new contract, we table the highest bid, it will happen. Unless they're are ok to lose him for nothing next season.

Its not about being hypothetical but rather points out a big flaw in Woodward's way of functioning. And its not just 1 season.
There is one thing having the cash to throw around and a completely different thing to identifying targets you could realistically sign and who wouldn't make you look fools when something changes suddenly like Greizmann did. We could have waited a week before starting off with the negotiations rather than ending up with mud on our faces. And even if something goes wrong, you still need to have quick back ups for damage control.

How is this relevant to Sanchez? It is because I believe Sanchez was always a much more realistic target to chase and we should have gone in for him as soon as the Atletico ban hit the news. Would have been a much better show of intent rather than having press briefing with our cool down in interest news. I am pretty sure Jose would love to have him, so there is no question of him not being a Jose type of player.

We will leave things till the end and probably miss out on someone special. We are a club who should be able to throw a few extra million dollars in there to buy who we want to show our authority and riches rather than keep the negotiations going on for weeks and in the process get used by players for new contracts half the times.

Impressed by Man City this summer with the quick business. The importance of a full pre season is lost on Woody. No wonder the likes of Mikhi started shining in the later half only. I hope we do go in for him and early with a huge bid which scares even the other interested parties off. Would be a perfect fit.

Sanchez more realistic then Griezmann  Wengers not selling him to any prem team it would be an absolute disaster.

Mkhitaryan played every pre-season game.

Pre season is not just about the matches. He signed in July if i am not wrong. I would love to see a quick signing early in June.

I honestly feel no one else would throw 65 mn at him and Arsenal would not be able to reject if Sanchez pushes for it. Might require a 350k wage but we could afford that. Who else could?

He is my muppet signing number one, always was. Have stayed away from this thread because i'm sure he'll sign for Bayern :(

Mbappe is a far more realistic target than Sanchez. Wenger won't seel his star to Mourinho.

Like Bailly last summer? Or Shaw, Herrera & Memphis? Actually apart from Fellaini (probably due to dithering Dave) and Pogba (obvious reasons; Euros, big deal), I'd say most of the players Woodward had signed, have been with us from pre-season day #1.

Fairly certain negotiations for Griezmann will have been ongoing for the best part of a year. Transfers don't usually just happen at the drop of a hat, especially ones of this magnitude.
