Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Ok, so you did miss the overall point.

You picked a player at the other end of the spectrum to Rooney a player who was named in the EPL team of the year when he was older than Rooney is now. I'd say any player who earned that at 33/34 is hardly an example of a player who dropped off a cliff prematurely.

Comparing chalk and cheese and trying to make a point of it, is fuzzy to say the least.

Or maybe you were trying to make a point of if a player gets a serious injury it can end his career. Thanks for pointing that out....

Jeez... I've sought to clarify my point and you're still banging on about a misunderstanding. I wasn't looking to argue anything about Rio Ferdinand. But as you're so content to keep it there;

Rio
May 2013. PFA Team of the Year. Premier League Champion.
July 2014. Signed by QPR.
May 2015. Released by relegated QPR

That is an absolute full stop halt to a career. Captain of a title winning side to Captain of a relegated side inside 2 seasons.

Again, I used a few players that had different scope to their careers, not one size fits all carbon copies. It wasn't a commentary on age so much as number of games played.

Rooney has played a similar amount of games to Rio and he's got a potential 2-5 years of playing time left. How are those things not relevant when someone is wondering if Sanchez will burn out early due to playing masses of football by the age of 28?

Maybe Sanchez is still playing as much football as Robben at the same age of 33. Maybe his body gives up, maybe he cashes a paycheck in China or the MLS at 30. We're now so far removed from the actual discussion that it's largely irrelevant though. Bravo.

Lets remove Rio from the equation.
You're comparing burnout to injury and somehow classing them as the same thing. Your point is like saying Van Basten had the same career drop off as Rooney. Best striker in the world to retired within 2 years....

Thought that post in the Sanchez thread on Arsenal Mania was pretty funny.

Arsenal are that sleazy bloke who somehow manages to lure decent looking girls off the street and get them into his fart sack. But every time he pulls one that's out of his league, they always seem to spot his skiddy pants behind the bathroom door and escape.

We should already be tapping us this guy. From January he can negotiate deals with other clubs. A world class player in his prime available. We should be all over that

I imagine he'll already have been doing that for quite some time.

We are/would be at a huge disadvantage in any negotiation anyway, owing to the fact that our status vis-a-vis European football next season is unlikely be clear before May 24th (EL Final). Not a problem Chelsea/PSG/Juve/Bayern will be having to explain in their preliminary chats with Sanchez's entourage.

He'll do very well at PSG if he goes. A lot of Spanish speaker and a weak league, him Cavani and Di Maria (+ Draxler)

Let's hope PSG offers Lucas to Arsenal, another baby that has talent but is not good ha

Going to be some very disappointed oppo fans this summer, especially those thinking Hazard will go.

Love how last week it was definitely Bayern, before that Juve and now we all thinks it must be Chelsea.

Maybe it's just a great game of chicken between Arsenal (who definitely can pay what he is asking) and a shrewd agent (who knows he can get a big juicy cut). If he does leave I would be genuinely amazed if Arsenal allow him to move to Chelsea, would damage them in terms of reputation and future recruitment.

he will do what every player tends to do when they want to move to a certain club.... play up

He definitely seems the type, as soon as Arsenal can make it look like Sanchez instigated it all and he is the villain, he will go to whoever pays the dough

We need a striker that can score goals. He's one of the best in the league. Why not take a punt?

Let's be honest, we're quite far down the list of clubs he could sign for. Especially when Chelsea are interested, they can pay the same wages, have CL football and he doesn't even have to move.

He won't go to PSG imo.

Chelsea look favourites at this point.

Hopefully we make a strong push for him though.

He wants to stay in London and wants champs league football....Both of which we cannot offer him but Chelsea can.
I expect real to bid big for hazard or Chelsea will be tough to beat next year with both hazard and Sanchez...that is the stuff fifa ultimate team is made of

The meltdown from Arsenal fans when he joins Chelsea will be delightful. Not sure it will be on a Van Persie to us level but it will still make for great viewing regardless.

Hope they announce that Wenger is staying the same day to round it all off

It would be great of course, but I don't believe in it.

Only because we know that PSG and Chelsea are also interested and we're competing with two top teams that can offers him Champions League football, when we only can offer him Europa League games and poor League form.

If he goes to Chelsea I can see them dominating English football for a few years. Costa, Hazard, Alexis supplied by Luiz and Matic with Kante stealing the ball back when the lose it is a scary thought.

Wonder which would humiliate Arsene Wenger & piss off the Arsenal fans more, selling their best player to a hated London rival or selling him to probably the person he despises more than anyone in the world José Mourinho?

I don't know. Maybe we can convince them to return the favor after we sold them our legendary keeper last year.

I think nobody can dominate the PL anymore but that frontline is exactly what a PL team is supposed to have in order to have a shot at the CL. Anything inferior is simply not good enough.

Easy fix man, we take turns, he's yours up until Christmas, then we get a crack at him.

It we can't get him to sign a contract I sort of think we should let him go on a free in 2018. He'll be 29 then and we will have had his best years with his wages below the market level. The board probably will force through sales like they did with Nasri and RVP though. Wenger didn't want to sell and came out with 'we can't consider ourselves a big club if we sell all our best players, but the board pressed the sales through.

I'd get rid of Sanchez very early in the summer if I were Wenger though. Wouldn't want to have another Fabregas to Barca type long, drawn out summer. Make the deal quickly, whether to Chelsea or abroad. Hopefully to Chelsea.

That won't happen, they'll be months of haggling, Wenger will probably fancy getting a handful of games out of him and letting him go on deadline day if his valuation isn't met.

TBF though, he's played a feck load of football matches in his career and his style of football is all about explosiveness, I wouldn't be surprised if his fall from grace is sooner than some expect. I don't think he will ever cut it as a more reserved, patient footballer, once that does happen. He runs his bollocks off every game, that takes a lot out of players over the span of a whole career.

He's very fit and takes good care of himself. Giggs too relied on explosiveness earlier in his career.

Alexis doesn't have the best footballing brain but his technique is top class.

Didn't Fergie ring Wenger for RVP......wheres the board involved.

Won't happen, but if he really wants to piss of Arsenal he should run down his contract and go to Spurs for free. I would pay big money to see Arsenal fan TV if that happened.

I think they hate us more than your lot atm. Chelsea is a pretty likeable team with Conte.

No they aren't.
I believe saf confirmed in his book that he did place a call to Wenger in order to push the rvp deal through.

Cantona was a call to or from Leeds about Irwin.
Maybe I missed the RVP thing.
