Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

He and Ozil want £250k a week. Arsenal don't want to pay that much for them
I'm pretty sure he'd like to win a title as well (be it PL or preferably CL) and realizes it won't happen with Arsenal.

As exciting as it is to buy youngsters, the lack of experience shows when it matters the most. Today Rashford and Pogba were constantly losing the ball in the last 15 mins by rushing their attacks.
He's brilliant, but that sounds exactly like Alexis.

this is why i dont go into the BL thread. their fans are annoying as hell.
I don't blame opposition fans for acting dismissive about United sometimes tbh. The arrogance a lot of United fans show towards other teams on here is nauseating.

Guys, no doubt in my mind that Alexis has acted poorly this week/past weeks.

This isn't a decision that AW would have wanted to take, just a reality of the situation Arsenal are in with him at the helm.

The players, clearly, don't respect him anymore. This sort of thing was coming.

The most widely frequented football forum, especially among oppo fans. I do not agree with you at all. If anything, United fans here fecking grill our own team harder than any other.

I don't deny United fans are fast to point out our own shortcomings. That's something that we're realistic about on here for the most part.

But I find that a lot of fans on here don't take all that well to opposition fans doing it. And I think there's definitely huge arrogance shown in transfer threads when someone dares question if a player would actually want to join us over other teams and to a lesser extent in one or two of the opposition teams threads (I'm mainly thinking of the Spurs thread here).

We'll see how the transfer threads are when Alexis comes here :smirk:
Nah in all seriousness, I see your point.

Lots of people have said SAF promised Ronaldo he'd allow him to move if he gave him one last season, which Ronaldo did. Different situation as Sanchez is forcing Arsenals hand as he's running down his contact.
Can you blame him.though?

Not everyone is like Sir Alex that will keep their word.

Liverpool basically lied to Suarez about his buyout clause. But even with his contract running down, Sanchez still gives his all on the field.

Chelsea fans I know are genuinely convinced that he'll be a Chelsea player next season, which worries me slightly

Him to Juve, Dybala to Real, Morata to Arsenal ?
Unlikely. Dybala will move for record money, which means the circumstances must be right for that. Alexis to juve is possible(hope not!), while morata to arsenal is only possible if wenger walks

I wouldn't rule out Bayern yet, Robben and Ribery are still very productive, but given their advanced age Bayern really need to find a suitable replacement soon (Coman and Costa aren't imho), Sanchez would fit that bill and his contract situation can put Arsenal under a lot of pressure during negotiations, something which Bayern always liked to exploit.

What happened to Coman and Costa? They were the best thing since the sliced bread last season, but now apparently are not good enough to be long-term replacements for Robben and Ribery. It surprises me Coman in particular who is still very young.

If he was dropped as a statement, then surely he has to be dropped from the team altogether rather than to the bench.
I dont understand what dropping him to the bench and then bringing him on achieves.
nothing

I think Costa is/was a decent player who was in a purple patch of form. Coman is extremely young and is bound to have consistency issues. We've seen similar with Martial.

I don't think Costa will ever be on the same level as Robben and Ribéry, but he is definitely good enough to play for us. Coman is a different case - he is far too young to be compared with Robben/Ribéry, and he just came back from injury and is slowly gaining back confidence.

I think we need a winger next season and Sanchez would be fecking great to have.

Well that was just my personal opinion. I rate Ribery and Robben very, very highly - even at age 33 they are still dishing out numbers like 8 goals, 5 assists in 1050 BL minutes or 3 goals 7 assists in 800 BL minutes.
On the other hand I think that Costa is a very talented player and I think he can be a decent player for Bayern, but not nearly with that frightening consistency or leadership ability (not necessarily by words, but more by actions) that the old guys have shown over many seasons. Coman is still young enogh that anything can happen for him, but thus far he does not strike me as a player who can carry a team like Bayern anytime soon.
I also think that Bayern need to make a big attacking signing to prove their intent of staying at the very top.

I can understand the players as well. Ozil and Sanchez moved from Madrid and Barcelona, where they have won titles. They have won plenty of titles with their NT as well. They certainly want to win above everything else. When the club seems to have no intention to compete with the best, it basically forces players who have those ambitions to move away. It's as normal as everything else I can think of right now. Winners don't last long in clubs with less ambitions. The difference in mentality is too big.

No offence to the gunners here, but it looks like Arsenal has no plans to be a top club. Not now and not even in the near future. It just wants to pretend that it is in order to make big bucks. And if you don't want to be a big club, and make big bucks pretending that you are, the least you can do is pay your 2 stars whith world class salaries.

Keeping Sanchez and Ozil happy is also wise from a business perspective. Say you are a director, with a Movie Production Company behind you, and you know that the movie will turn out a massive flop at the Box Office (you're not exactly Martin Scorsese, the script is bad, the actors are mostly average, the budget is tight etc.). But, lucky for you, you have Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron in the cast, and almost surely those two can convince the people that this is not an average movie, because it has Tom and Charlize in it. It's a great movie, and you have to pay up some top money to see it. And it's probably going to work, the fans will think it's a good movie.

And what do you do next? You insult Tom Cruise. And wait until Charlize, his friend, hears about it. Then you lose both Tom Cruise, and Charlize Theron, and the movie will indeed be a massive flop.

Would love Alexis at United, stating the bleeding obvious but he'd improve our attack no doubt.

Unfortunately, after selling us Robin van Persie and the outrage that was directed to the board and manager from the fans, I just don't ever see a scenario where they'd sell to us or even another premier league team for that matter.

Sanchez is the energetic tiny lead actor and Ozil is the beautiful South African window dressing. If only the pundits could use such crystal clear analogies.

We should do everything to get him plus he is on his last year of his contract. Should be cheaper as well. Get him and Griezmann and the CL is ours.

How would Sanchez and Griezmann work in the same side out of interest?

Would Sanchez accept going back to a wide role? Does he have the discipline for it anymore.

Great post.

But you indulge "too much" and you get players running the club. But ,essentially, you've hit the nail on the head with that. Great post.

A lot of arsenal fans are changing tune in regards to RVP. If you pay and he decides he wants you and only you, arsenal will sell him to you

Are they? Whilst some are sensible to notice that the guy did indeed leave to eventually win the title, something he wasn't going to do with them, many of them still label him Judas among other, less tasteful things.

I do agree though that if there was a small chance we could prize him away from Arsenal, we are one of the very few clubs in the world that could pay what they demanded but I can still see them playing hard ball and would try desperately to offload him abroad before selling to a league rival.

No way. This is way off. Fans forgive RVP for wanting to leave but the vast majority still call him Judas for going to United.

If Sanchez is sold to United, City or Chelsea, you will see far more serious protests than Wenger Out ever will get because selling to a PL rival will unite both Wenger In and Out in outrage against the board.

Sanchez is going abroad.

We won't get him, not a chance on a sale. There is enough tension between the Arsenal fans and the Club already.

Only if he comes on a free will we get him, but I wouldn't wager that he will want to come here anyway. Somewhere like Juventus suits him, or even Bayern.

'Thing is, Wenger, the owner & the board have proven time and again that they don't really care what the fans think; in fact, although Arsene pays lip-service to fans 'having the right to their opinions,' it's obvious that he resents anyone questioning the Emperor's new clothes. This is possibly a reason why Sanchez is on the outs, never mind the (probable) fact that he wants to leave.

Besides, unless Jose really wants Sanchez, I think we'll leave this alone. Mourinho's already spoken about 'unattainable' targets not being worthy of the hassle.

Moat of the arsenal fans i know are no longer pissed about him going to united. They are pissed about the way he went about it

Then I'd suggest your friends are not at all representative of most Arsenal fans, AKB or WOB. Just in the last 18 months, I've heard his name loudly boo'd at gooner pubs in multiple cities still. He is called Judas and JVP almost exclusively on the internet. Go on any Arsenal forum or #arsenal twitter tag and make that statement and you will get lots of people disagreeing with you. The "Spend Some Fecking Money" chants were far louder and more widespread than any Wenger Out protest. Just about the only thing that would unite both AKB and WOB fans in outrage it would selling Sanchez to a domestic rival.

While it is true that our board of bankers might just sell Alexis to United, City or Chelsea irrespective of the fans' wishes, I guarantee you there would be massive outrage from both AKB and WOB if the board tries to sell to any of the domestic rivals. Nothing winds both AKB and WOB fans more than our years of selling our good players to Chelsea, City and then RVP to United. There would be riots if they try to sell Sanchez to City, Utd or Chelsea.
