Finally someone gets it!

57,44,56 appearances in the last three seasons.

It would seem he is over his injury problems. But his goal scoring record of 28 in 89 league games in Brazil isn't great. He had 51 in 117 for AC Milan.

He's problems in Milan werent strictly injuries either..the truth is that people want him him for what he showed 5 years ago and what they though he could become. We should be aiming much higher as a club, so no thanks.I doubt we are interested either despite the reports. We seem to have become become linked to a lot of clickbait stories in the Brazillian press. This is nothing different.

In Milan he had 1 in 2 record. In Brazil he has 1 in 2.5. You could say the Brazil league is easier and he's older so he should be scoring at a better rate. You could say he's less motivated in Brazil and a move to a better league would be good motivation.

Not an apples to apples comparison, but I'd take Mane over Pato every day of the week. We desperately need more pace in the squad.

So would I, but pace has nothing to do with it. Mane is extremely fast, and Pato is one of the very few players linked with us who is faster than him.

Pato is one of the fastest players in the world

Is Pato still that fast? I know he was rapid pre-2013 but Mane is very quick. I wouldn't be surprised if injuries have shaved him off that level.

Pato isnt faster than Mane anymore. Mane is even better at dribbling with pace than Pato too. He just isnt good enough anymore, no club wanted him. He got over his injuries, but he lost his enormous potential too. If you watched him a few times, you would see it directly. Lets get over the romanticism that some have, he just isnt good enough for us anymore.

That is an extremely outdated opinion.
Agreed. Pato was once very quick. He's no turtle now, but he's not got the pace or explosiveness he once did.

It was likely a poor comparison anyway, as they operate best in different areas of the pitch. Again, for me, Mane is more of what we need.

It's nice to see we have so many resident Serie A watchers on this forum, definitely not pulling these conclusions out of their arses.

I watched a couple of Sao Paulo matches some weeks ago and he failed to stand out like he used to at Milan. Really struggle to see what he has to offer at a club aiming for the biggest trophies. His PR department is really working their socks off to sell him back to Europe.

I once remember seeing him pull off a trick, on the touchline I think, in his Milan days possibly against United wondering how in the world was that possible. It was sublime. On this evidence we still shouldn't sign him. Unless we do and he's cracking in which case I said we should sign him.

@fontaine - have you seen him play recently? Has he rediscovered his form and fitness?

He seems pretty keen on a move to England.

He's done a very interesting inteview with The Guardian regarding his future, and his past. Well worth a read, but I'll just pull out some quotes to do with transfers.

A €28 million deal, a three-year contract, at an exciting new force in European football. "Paris St Germain called my manager and offered me a contract to sign for them," Pato explains. "They had a contract on the table."
It was his idea to return to Brazil and join Corinthians, one of the country’s biggest clubs, in January 2013. "I needed to go back," he says. "When I was getting injured so much, I spoke to my family and my manager and said: 'I need my body to recover.’ The first thing I thought was that I needed to stay upright. When I went back to Brazil to play, after a few months, my body was perfect. Now, after three years playing there, my dreams have come and one day I think I will be coming back to Europe to write my new story." Pato is completely injury-free, and has been for more than a year, strong and in outstanding form.
"I played 59 games and scored 26 goals," he says. "That is the best season of my career. Now I feel that my body and my mental strength are both good. My confidence is back."

It is an exciting prospect. Pato, with one-year left on his Corinthians contract, is believed to be available for £15 million and is intrigued by the prospect of playing in England.
I think Brazilian players can play here. You mix talent and intelligence and Brazilian players can play here." Neither would language be a problem. "This is my first interview in English," Pato says in, well, very good English. "I have not had any lessons in English. Just talked to my friends.

When you look at the striking options that will be available for us in January, We have to at least look at this guy as it may be the best option we have until Summer.

I want us to sign him. We have nothing to lose. Our options are so dire.

I would definitely take the risk. We don't have anywhere enough striking options currently and if he could possibly get anywhere near his old level it could end up being a steal. If he doesn't he could still be a good player for us and will add some more pace and dynamism up top.

I need to look past the me of 2007 who wants us to sign him, and look at this rationally. A 1 in 3 record in the Brazilian league isn't exactly setting the world alight, but we are desperately short there. If the price is right, i'd be willing.

Hasn't he been playing on the left in Brazil? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

I've followed Tim Vickery's profiling of Pato over the course of the season, and he is absolutely convinced he would be an incredibly risk free punt for any premier league club.

He believes Corinthians could be haggled down to a 3-5m fee and he wont be on high wages. he's been injury free for over a year now, and he could come in and get us 5-10 goals.

Its as simple as we need attacking reinforcements in january, and nobody top class is going to leave their club in that window. He's the best bang for your buck punt, and if he flops its no big deal from a financial perspective. but his upside is huge for the right price.

Stick a one in front at woody might just squeeze the deal through at 15m on deadline day

I think he would be interesting at Everton with lukaku and Delofeu ... Not sure they have any cash though

Would we have anything to lose if we gave him an 18 month contract in January for the rest of this season and next? If we can get him for 5 million quid its got to be worth a gamble surely, especially considering how desperately short we are. At best, it turns into an inspired deal and it gives us a good option to have up top, at worst we lose a small transfer fee and 18 months worth of wages. Got to be worth a pop.

I would sign him for 5m or less. Wouldn't be on extortionate wages either. Yes he was something special as a teenager and has fallen away but a short term deal and our incredible lack of finishers its surely worth a punt. We are not getting any top targets in January.
