Chelsea are winning the battle with Liverpool for the Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato. According to
ESPN Brasil’s journalist Mauro Cézar Pereira, the London club are very close to reach a deal with Corinthians.
Corinthians have been desperate to sell Pato, and it’s not because of his form. After signing him from Milan in January 2013 for £10.50m, the player had a poor year at the club and was loaned on a two-year deal to their rivals São Paulo.
Pato had a pretty decent loan spell at São Paulo, where he scored 26 goals in 2015. As the Corinthians fans won’t give him a warm reception after coming back from their rivals, the board is looking for any good offer to get rid of him. They have turned down offers from China and USA because Pato prefers going to Europe, especially the Premier League, as reported by
The Independent.
After leaving São Paulo, Pato’s first stop during his vacations was at Stamford Bridge, where he watched a Champions League game in December.
Mauro Cézar is a football pundit and not a reporter, so he generally doesn’t use his blog for gossip matters. That’s what makes this kind of post more reliable. According to him, Pato’s wages at Chelsea will be about £33k a week, and the Chinese club’s offer was £142k. That’s how much Pato wants to be in the Premier League.
