Alexandre Pato

Really wouldn't mind bringing him in in January with Wilson on the way out. He would be cheap, wouldn't expect to be an immediate starter and has something to prove. He's also pretty versatile so could get a fair bit of playing time on the wing.

Its like when there is a girl you fancy who is out of your league, you cant just give up when they say no or take out a restraining order. Persistence is the key.

Don't think Ed's into chloroform but fingers crossed to be fair.

The problem is I don't think we can afford to not buy another foward in January. The problem is further exacerbated with the likely loan of James Wilson. He's been in top form for the past 18months and if we can do a cut price deal, we should do it.

Taking Pato on a 6 month loan in January is pretty much a good risk free option, That way it provides cover and if he is crap or not focused then he can go back to Brazil at the end of the season. I think it's an option we will probably have to look at, as the chances of getting a world class striker in January are very slim.

He isnt good enough anymore, and too inconsistent. Watched Sao paulo before the international break, did absolutely nothing. Unless a move to Europe suddenly elevates him 2 levels higher, i dont see how anybody can say he has something to offer. The defending and general play is different over there, i dont think he is worth the risk. Ganso the same, not good enough anymore.

Good one!
I don't think Pato would be the same though. Thiago was not recognized as a top talent while at Porto and they basically turned him down, Pato was a star at Milan before injuries ruined him. He is 26 and not good enough to play for a top club now.

You're right. There's no good players in Brazil.

Suffering Jesus.
have you seen Pato play recently, if not please don't comment, there are much better and younger prospects in Europe than this injury prone wantaway golden boy who's now 26 who will never reach his potential which he had in his teen years..

I would really like him here, defiantly worth the risk, you never know he could do a Bojan.

Luis Fabiano, Miranda and Thiago Silva. Coutinho I think too.

Coutinho never went back. He played for Inter, then Espanyol on loan, then back to Inter and then to Liverpool. Miranda yes and Luis Fabiano i dont know. But their situations arent comparable to Pato anyway, not that you meant that.

Loaned in Brazil.

What you talking about, he's been brilliant for stoke when not injured.
When not injured which is about half the time and he has been good, had some great games and some not so great games. He's hardly been brilliant though and not a reason to go signing Pato. There are a bunch of players at mid table clubs that have been as good or even better than him. He still hasn't met a fraction of the hype he had as a youngster.

Cafu went back to Brazil after a very poor spell at Zaragoza. Probably the most successful example considering his subsequent performances for Roma and Milan. But he was extremely strong mentally. For more than a decade now, the best Brazilian players inevitably move to Europe. Playing for one of the big boys is like a dream come true for most of them. Having to return to Brazil, and failing in the eyes of a lot of people can have a significant psychological impact.

No one will convince me his talent hasn't dried up. He is already 25 and suffered the injury issues that ruined his first stint in Europe. I have a lot of doubt a signing like him would prove a real asset to us.

All I'm saying is it's worth taking the risk for Pato because we're not going to be paying that much and we know what he CAN do. What's a few million to Manchester United?

Djalminha went brazil-japan-brazil-la coruña where he was amazing

I personally think Pato makes more and more sense as a short term option. We can re-assess in the summer.

Almost confirmed to Liverpool, brazilian press says.

I was going to make a thread about it but I couldn't find a good source. Supposedly the Corinthians president confirmed the deal but I'm seeing elsewhere that he denied saying that.

Could be twitter bollocks.

The quotes doing the rounds from the Corinthians president about them having agreed a deal with Liverpool are fake.

I actually want us to sign him in January, we're a body short upfront and he still has quality. He was a favourite player of mine at Milan and after a horrendous time with injuries he's been injury free for a while and is back scoring goals.

Pato would be a great addition within the United front., a true example United way type of player in the lines of Owen and hargreaves and the crocked twins

He had a deal with us apparently. Now he's signing with Liverpool. From this Summer's window, I would trust anything the Brazilian press says about transfers to England. I think he's being shopped around, but can see him at a Stoke, nothing more.
