Well it wasn't just because he scored against us, He scored consistently last season to and is certainly a decent squad player to have for £4million, It gives you a different option style wise. If I was Van Gaal who would I get? Good question as there isn't an awful lot out there at this time of year (hence the Austin statement), but Pato would certainly of been an option for me.

But we don't need another decent squad player, that's the thing. Pato is no longer good enough.

That's your opinion, and you could well be right, But I think he has something left to give and has been humbled after his experiences.

PaTo was always humble. The problem were his injuries and not his attitude.

I dont think we are going to be able to sign a top level striker who would walk into our first team between now and the end of the transfer window.
I do think we are lightweight up front though and at some point Rooney or Martial will be injured / suspended and we will be crying out for a decent squad player up front.
Pato could be that - Austin at 4 million would have been another option even Berahino at £20m - or lacazette, barbosa, embolo - there are plenty of options but with time running out and his agent whoring him all over europe Pato would seem the easiest option.
Though we will probably buy nobody and see martial do his hamstring in Feb and Rooney get a three game ban for something daft at the same time knowing our luck - and then we will umm and ahh about recalling wilson whilst depay / janauzj / fellaini fight it out to be our main striker and we wish that we had signed a decent squad player up front in the transfer window

If he's really eager then Leicester on loan could be a good option. Win-win for both party.

Alexandre Pato is set to fly to London within the next 24 hours to complete a loan move to Chelsea.

Football Insider revealed on Monday evening that the Brazil striker was poised to undergo a Stamford Bridge medical after agreeing the terms of a loan transfer until the end of the season.

According to Brazilian TV channel SporTV, the Pato is set to fly to London from Sao Paulo at 11.50pm Brazilian time, meaning he should arrive in the UK on Wednesday morning.

He will undergo medical tests, and subject to work permit clearance, join the Premier League champions for the rest of the campaign.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that personal terms have been agreed in principle between Pato and the Londoners after he was given permission to negotiate a transfer.

Corinthians were keen on a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old but Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink urged the club to assess the fitness and hunger of the player before sanctioning a long-term deal.

As reported by Football Insider last week Pato has spoken to countryman Willian about the possibility of a move and the players in the Blues squad expect the deal to be completed.

Pato has just completed a relatively productive two-year loan spell at Sao Paolo but has fallen out of favour at his parent club, partly due to fitness issues.

I think the Falcao loan deal left a bad taste for us, as if its only a 6month loan with a view to perm, this should have been good option for us

Thought this deal made absolutely no sense until I saw this....Anyone confirm if this is true because it honestly wouldn't surprise me?

Or juve or PSG etc... If he wants to prove he is still amongst the best surely he wants to play in the best competition (admittedly chelsea could still win it this year)
Though I think who the new manager is and if they want him may be the biggest factor to if he stays at chelsea

I disagree, if he performs well, they will want him, its that simple, and in a situation where he is performing for Chelsea, why would he risk moving to another team? Anyway, I like the guy and he would have been worth a punt, but his name holds more ability than he does in my opinion and won't get many games in Chelsea's 1 striker setup favouring Costa

How does it make "absolutely no sense".

They are only loaning him and he is on less wages than Victor Moses apparently. If he is shite, Chelsea don't have to sign him in the summer. Its actually a really good deal and makes sense to both parties.

Think he is a good loan, fit and on low wages as opposed to Falcao. Can always get rid in summer but I think he will do better than Remy who looks like he doesn't want to be there to me and will surely be gone in the summer.

What chance him scoring the winner against us a week Sunday.

I doubt that. He is done. A younger version of Falcao.
He was good, but injuries got the best of him. I can't see a happy ending, neither for him nor for Chelsea.
He is now the third striker after Sheva and Falcao that will be next to useless.

You may be right but having watched him playing recently just on highlights he can still run and quite fast despite the injuries, the other two mentioned ran in cement to be fair especially Falcao. Ah well at least you tried to strengthen whereas we have done feck all to halt the alarming lack of shots never mind goals!

Pointless really. He isn't even match fit yet, meaning we will have to get him up to match fitness. That probably gives us 1/2 months of top fitness Pato. Seriously, Emenalo is a joke and needs to be sacked. Should have gone when Mourinho did.

The Ramires deal alone should be applauded for the rest of the season, that's some absurd business. Pato on the other hand is window dressing

Pato or nobody are the options; which do you go for?

Firstly as mentioned earlier he's not even match fit so will probably be another month before he gets starting matches. Secondly the position he now plays is a left winger- that's Hazard's best position and if not they have that Kennedy fella who himself looks a pretty decent prospect not to mention that's also probably Pedro's best position. Thirdly the most Chelsea can realistically hope for this season is top 8 - surely with the fantastic academy they have over there, there's more players deserving of first team opportunities then loaning a washed up Pato who's not played European football for over 4 years. If it proves wrong then fair enough but I can't see it.

The thing is, a bunch of people in our club believe that this season is still "salvageable" and that we're still in the running for 2 trophies. The latter is true, but we aren't winning the Champions League. There are also quotes out there from John Terry saying that he and the players think top 4 is still possible. That kind of deluded thinking probably plays on the minds of our board which leads to the signing of players like Pato.

On the Chelsea forum I frequent no one really wants him at all and would rather just use what we have. Save all the funds until the summer when we have our new manager.

Madness. The club is run by lunatics.

I agree with the wait till summer and develop youth players for the rest of the season train of thought. This season is a mess and complete write off, most of these players will be gone in the summer. Why not make it mean something and use it to bring through some players.

Exactly. Signing anyone now before we even know if the new manager will want them is dumb.

Pato for a 6 month loan proves that he's being signed with the rest of this season in mind and that the board is hoping he'll help us in the CL, FA Cup, and PL. Don't really see him having any impact.

We won't get past PSG so he wont even play in the CL, the PL is a bust so what's the point there? Only the FA cup where Kenedy has impressed in his position.

I get what you are saying but I still think he is worth gambling on for 6 months. Its essentially a trial to see if he good enough still to play at this level. He cant be worse than Falcao, from the videos I've seen he can still play football. Stick Falcao in Brazil and you still wont see the same performances Pato has been having.I highly doubt he will play left wing by the way, he is going to play striker.

In theory, this is a great looking counter attack.

Willian---Hazard---Pedro

Of course football isnt always that simple.
