Alex Sandro

That surprises me given Alves is out.

Are there really many people who don't want Sandro? I haven't noticed.

Quite a few people on here think he's nothing special, which is odd. Been a fan since his Porto days.

Sandro and Alderweireld would be excellent additions to our defence and wouldn't break the bank.

People who are not necessarily sold on him don't automatically qualify as those who want Young as our main LB, far from it in fact. We badly need a new LB.

I just honestly feel his lack of pace and level of physicality around here will be too much to handle for him and given his performance levels he clearly wasn't a stand out at anything. Someone also mentioned his fragile mentality well as if we needed any more of those.

What? Sandro is a physical beast.

Good player, potentially could be very good. . Thing is he's what we need. Like Pep last season with Walker at right back, he needed him and paid over the odds. A lot of us laughed and joked about the fee, same with VVD at Liverpool. Both players aren't perfect, no player is, but it's what the clubs needed, and both clubs are better for it. We need a full back, he's a good fit. This whole thing he's the only one available is a bit of a stretch, the days of having a scouting dept who dug up good players not globally known is dwindling or non existent. He's an improvement clearly on what we have. I think there has to be a bit more thought put into our transfers, and I'm not referring to this one but in general terms. Take Pogba and Sanchez, 2 world class players and they've teamed up well at times but they want to occupy the same areas a lot of the time. I'd rather we buy players who fit rather than big names who we try and fit.

Yep, my ideal scenario here. I think net we’d be looking at 70m for the pair. That’s including the fee for darmian going the other way to juve. Can’t really get better value these days.

The lack of available quality left backs out there, makes this guy potentially our most important signing. Those suggesting he is not good enough, please feel free to suggest different players (who are in fact 'available'). I remember when Chelsea were linked with him in January, I was shitting myself as I realised there is no clear candidate out there for us for that left back position.
How are casual fans supposed to know who is 'available'? Being skeptical that a player who hasn't done well in serie A and isn't in the Brazil squad being called one of the best left backs in the world doesn't mean we have some bizarre detailed global scouting knowledge and a strong agent network. Mad how defensive people get around the latest popular signings

He is easily in the top 5 left backs in the world, and he's 27.. he's at his peak. Anyone against this transfer is a fool.

I think our scouting team knows much better than media who just throws the biggest names as usual to make people desperate to read these stories and buy the player because he's the best "available" There are options out there if Robertson can come from Hull and in one season be one of the best leftbacks in the league, I am saying there are options. Who knew Bailly before he came here?

Give better options worldwide than him.
Given that his competition is essentially limited to Sidibe, Tierney, and Ghoulam, he's clearly the best option available to us. Should he sign for us I anticipate he'll be good, if not spectacular, but that's the best we can really do to be honest.

We are trying to win the league and topple a team that got 100 points. Yet some jokers are telling me we should sign some 20 year old from the Scottish league who's not guaranteed to be ahead of Young.

Well....people love the young 'uns, so....there is that, I suppose. ;)

Is this guy actually any good? Any time I've watched Juve he has not really impressed, small sample size admittedly but I'm not convinced he is better than pre injury Danny Rose. If Rose has a good World Cup I'd probably prefer him tbh.

Shaw is Anderson MK 2.

Just as well our transfers aren't done based on who has a good world cup then ;)

I like him... he's a very good fullback with great athletism, who makes good decisions, and can deliver a dangerous out-swinging ball into the box. I actually like Young and Valencia, and think they get far too much stick. That said, signing Sandro (and Sandro replicating his form from last season) would take us up a couple of levels as a team. Martial, Pogba, and Sandro coming from the left could be devastating (Sanchez central/right).

Pre-injury Rose was sensational tbh, but would be a huge risk now.

Sandro is a physical specimen and has that running style that gets to top speed very quickly. He is also very good at beating his man, has good midfield qualities (passing vision and quick release of the ball), good crossing, good positioning and recovery runs.

How can anyone not want this player?

He's a very good all-rounder with no obvious weaknesses - it's hard for people to get excited about that (even though that's exactly what we need at this moment).

He's just a lot better than our current options, and is among the best available left backs.

Young is very slow to release the ball and his passing is quite poor with his left foot. He also loses concentration in defensive phases and makes up for it with a lot of last ditch defending (he has gotten away with some seriously bad defending in the box).

I also prefer getting a LB because it allows us to use Young on his natural side over Valencia at RB. A lot of Young's problems come from him having to always shift the ball to the other foot.

I would go all in for Sandro. Ashley Young is a great servant but his best days are past him for getting up and down the pitch week in week out. Sandro has all the attributes to add quality and physicallity to the squad both in Premier League and Champions League. I would also rather throw TFM in at right back rather than buying a new one. Invest the money in the midfield of two really top notch players and eff off Fellaini. One player needs to come in and raise the performance of those around them and be a leader on the pitch

Getting rid of Darmian with no hassle is a nice bonus. Could be a good move for him, he did well enough at Torino that a few big clubs were after him, perhaps he can rekindle his form back in Italy.

Well, he was kind of let go because he wasn’t good enough
*was let go because LVG didn't like Brazilians

Replaced with Darmian who really improved things  Oh yeah he's an international BTW

Does anyone have access to the La Sriampal article...are they quoting their own sources?

The article they are sourcing is from La Stampa who are Turin based and are reliable for Juventus/Torino news so this looks like it could be a go-er.

It'll be nice to finally have a good full back again in the team again. Hope we go for a RB too

Apparently Sandro is similar to Roberto Carlos, but no,lets keep the faith with Luke Shaw FC....

Time to finally get the muppet juices flowing if that is true then.

Be nice to finally have professional fullbacks playing fullback positions.
Agreed, Liverpool and City have both shown this season what a world of difference two capable full backs can make, conversely Spurs were a better team last season (IMO) when they had two very good fullbacks in Walker and pre-injury Rose.

Remember La Stampa from the Vidal days? Those were good times.
