I seriously don't understand posts like these.
People want us to go into next SEASON and challenge City with two 33 year old wingers converted into FBs with two kids in TFM & Mitchell who have barely any experience at the top as our options for full backs!
We want results now,our manager wants results now and proven quality is required for that. People keep going on and on about Tierney, yes he may come good but he plays in the SPL which is very low on quality and the step up to the PL could be too big for him.And what if he fails to adapt? Another young LB next year? Another year persisting with Young?
We have the money, like a lot of money and LB is a priority, then why shouldn't we go for the best available option
I think he (or another top LB) is. The role of FBs in modern football has become too important to rely on players who "can do a job" imo. It's time to get the finished article.
I'm not disputing that we can improve on young, but please recognise that this isn't a football manager cheat game where we have unlimited spend
A right winger, right back, centre mid and centre back are all higher priorities than a left back. That's 150-200m for four players, before adding Sandro to the spend.
If we have 250m, then go for him. If not, we have to prioritise. Personally, I think Young as 1st choice and Mitchell as back up is a better solution for the team, than the alternatives of:
1) playing Mata as a right winger and completely disjointing our attack (our biggest shortfall in my opinion).
2) Relying on Valencia as our main right back and without clear back up
3) Having a wafer thin midfield 3, with one of those being an inconsistant Herrera and no back-up apart from Mctom
4) Having the risk of 3 of our 5 senior centre backs on the sick list (Rojo, Jones, Bailley), with a 4th who is failing to adapt to the prem (Victor L).
It's all about priorities
