Alex Sandro

Seriously, what would be the point?

I haven't seen loads of him, but isn't his best attribute his attacking? Jose starts crying every time his full backs go past the half way line. We'd be better off just getting a reliable, boring guy there like Paulo Ferriea was for him

I think it's always worrying when the fans of a team actively want a player sold, as a lot of Juve fans do with Sandro. I'm hoping though he's better than what I've seen with him in the CL, which was nothing special, but I've never watched him in Serie A.

Funnily enough they seem to want Darmian, we want Sandro, I'd happily make that trade with some money on top. But I do worry if he really is a top LB, we really need someone who can add something great going forward. Liverpool's two young full backs have been very important this season for them in an attacking sense and it makes me sad to see what we have there currently.

Edit - just having watched some of his highlights on youtube (pinch of salt, I know) - he seems to have a very good pass and cross on him, but doesn't seem to be able to dribble past players. So good in one sense, but bad in another, but I guess you can't always have a Marcelo who's good at both.

Isn't that more to do with Sandro wanting to leave Juve? He pushed for a move away from Juve last summer.

Don't they want him sold because he's pretty much said he wants to leave Juventus and isn't happy there? Pretty sure it's noting to do with his ability.

I've seen a lot of posts on reddit and the juventuz forum saying that he's regressed this season.. maybe because of the stuff in the summer but I haven't really watched him enough to make a judgement. Some on that forum do still want to keep him but it seems many would be happy enough to sell for 40-50m.

Not sure, but if De Gea wanted a move to Madrid, I'd still want him to stay at United...

De Gea never tried to force a move, Sandro did apparently. Downed tools and wanted a move, could have possibly been because of our interest in him last summer?

I'd want Dave gone if he was stinking up the place and wanted a move, don't want players like that around upsetting the rest.

He's probably regressed because we turned his head last summer with a big contract offer and the chance to play for Manchester United. Southampton fans could have said the same about Van Djke but he's been decent since joining Liverpool.

Arguably our most important transfer this. We’ve been screaming for a proper left back since Shaw’s injury.

Can’t help feel he’s very overrated. He’s not been very good this season. I’m not convinced spending a fortune on him is a particularly good idea.

Fair enough, I agree. Had no idea he was pushing for the move and had downed tools. Not exactly a great trait to have...

I don't think Sandro is a priority.

Young has done a great job this season, while Demetri Mitchell has been amazing for Hearts on loan and deserves a chance to take over from young.

There are other priorities to spend the money on and I'd look to replace Valencia at right back ahead of left back. He is in slow decline and it's a position we lack back up for (as in attacking full backs).
I seriously don't understand posts like these.
People want us to go into next SEASON and challenge City with two 33 year old wingers converted into FBs with two kids in TFM & Mitchell who have barely any experience at the top as our options for full backs!
Young has been OK, but he has been a liability in many games.
And what happens if Young gets injured? We play against Salah/Ronaldo with a 17 year old as our LB?

Snadro is the best LB we can get, period.
Just one bad season doesn't mean he is a bad player, going by that logic we should not sign Hazard even if he is offered to us.
We bought a very promising 18 year old for a lot of money, it didn't work out. Also our current manager is not the best at developing youth.
We want results now,our manager wants results now and proven quality is required for that. People keep going on and on about Tierney, yes he may come good but he plays in the SPL which is very low on quality and the step up to the PL could be too big for him.And what if he fails to adapt? Another young LB next year? Another year persisting with Young?
We have the money, like a lot of money and LB is a priority, then why shouldn't we go for the best available option

We got Rojo that way and other players have done similar in the past in order to force their dream move. Personally, I like it, as long as we are their dream move that is!

I think he (or another top LB) is. The role of FBs in modern football has become too important to rely on players who "can do a job" imo. It's time to get the finished article.

But he’s Brazilian bro......

Agreed, I’d prefer to get Tierney (with Mitchell going to Celtic) or even a steady option like Ryan Bertrand until a more viable option comes available.

Kolarov looks a decent leftback in Serie A.....

Look at Pogba’s Juventus highlights reel; misleading to say the least. Luke Shaw would look immense against Balkan journeymen too.

Luke Shaw won't be able to deliver a cross like the ones Sandro does in that video to save his life.
Same with Tierney, he too is a meh crosser.
Balkan Journeymen? You mean teams like Barca against whom he was immense?

How are his crossing abilities and some great goals he scored 'misleading' ?

At his best Alex Sandro is maybe top3 LB in the world. I would never say no to him.

That's his problem; he looks immense! Needs to lose a shit load of weight

Mitchell on a loan to Celtic? I'd be reluctant to get rid of him completely, looks a very good player.

Haven't seen much of Tierney, what's his best qualities?

To be fair I haven't seen much of Sandro either.

IMO Young is fine defensively but we need a more potent LB who is comfortable on the ball. Young and Valencia are fine to steady the ship but struggle offensively. I don't buy the stats things for full backs either, their numbers don't matter as long as they can contribute to the overall fluency of attacks.

Can dribble, cross, tackle. Decent acceleration. Getting some serious Evra vibes about this dude. Plus he can head!

Sign him up

 Your obsession with Pogba is weird and funny.

It's not misleading at all - Pogba was immense at Juventus. That's why he had to pay a lot of money for him mate.

He is left footed left back and can whip in crosses, that alone is a big improvement on what we have. Hopefully we sign him, possibly the best left back we can sign.

Downplaying the Serie A while wanting us to sign a player from the Scottish league...

He's one of the best fullbacks in football. I believe his drop in form this season has been down to off the field issues.

I'm not disputing that we can improve on young, but please recognise that this isn't a football manager cheat game where we have unlimited spend

A right winger, right back, centre mid and centre back are all higher priorities than a left back. That's 150-200m for four players, before adding Sandro to the spend.

If we have 250m, then go for him. If not, we have to prioritise. Personally, I think Young as 1st choice and Mitchell as back up is a better solution for the team, than the alternatives of:
1) playing Mata as a right winger and completely disjointing our attack (our biggest shortfall in my opinion).
2) Relying on Valencia as our main right back and without clear back up
3) Having a wafer thin midfield 3, with one of those being an inconsistant Herrera and no back-up apart from Mctom
4) Having the risk of 3 of our 5 senior centre backs on the sick list (Rojo, Jones, Bailley), with a 4th who is failing to adapt to the prem (Victor L).

It's all about priorities
