Can you expand on this? I'm not clear on what you're saying here

I'm just saying that the whole discussion is a ridiculous over-simplification of what is actually a massive and extremely complicated issue. And to therefore nit-pick on small details of differences is irrelevant and futile because there are countless variables at play.

False equivalency has to be my biggest bugbear with the election.

Hillary has her issues and is far from perfect, but painting them as being as bad as each other is utter utter nonsense.

I reckon the Russians have seen that this thread is a little heavy on the Democrat side so have started sending trolls and dissenters in to stir things up and cause some trouble.

Look at the little weasel

 Squeal little piggy, squeal

That's cool langy, though it does seem a lot of other people in the big wide world actually take the Drumpf thing quite seriously!

Yeah I know. ah well, what do you do eh?

I agree completely, although the Republicans and Trump surrogates have been pretty darn close. Huckabee, Mayor Rudy G, Hannity and the abysmal surrogates on CNN and Faux, wow. They are unbearable. I'm all for difference of opinion, difference in ideology etc, all for intelligent discussion or even piss taking, whatever, but it's out and out lies I can't stand. I also can't stand people who just shout louder and constantly interrupt or shout over or change the subject all the time and that's all this lot ever do. I wouldn't mind if they offered some differing opinions, but they don't they just lie or shout. The lot of them just lie continuously, it's just embarrassing. It also says a lot about how and what they think and treat the American public. The same goes for the news channels themselves, they really do dumb it right down. I reckon we need to bring Jon snow and Paxman over, they would sort them right out. As I said before, it's amazing that the so called comedians like John Oliver and Samantha Bee are actually the ones carrying out the best investigative journalism work and reporting everything to the public in a far more palatable way.

I've just found this amazing article that includes some great quotes from Mike Pence. It's from August this year, although it could easily be from August 1816. How on earth can this kind of thinking not be ridiculed and shot down in this day and age?

Surely he should be reprimanded over his comments? I can't believe people take him seriously. Gay conversion therapy, condoms too modern, and I also recall him saying that mothers should be forced to perform burials if they miscarry. :nervous: He could be even more dangerous than his small handed leader. The pair of them though. Oh feck! That could be something the USA, and maybe world would never recover from.

The worst thing about false equivalency (of any kind) is that it's always done by those who know the least about a situation, pretending they know the most, and looking down on all the proles taking sides with a completely unearned superiority.

It's basically an excersize in excusing yourself from getting either involved or informed, because you know better.

It's pretty standard from the Republican party, really. Ironic that they spend so much time espousing their belief that taking away guns from people infringes upon their rights...yet they're completely okay with infringing upon the rights of people they don't like.

Trump fits in well with them. He's abhorrent and has gotten worse as times gone on, but it's worth noting that during the Primary debates, there were times when he was actually coming across as better than his opponents...and more humane than them, too.

Without defending Pence too much, because many of his views are indeed reprehensible, that's a really stupid interpretation of what he said. It's fairly clear that he means the suggestion that we tell our youth to use condoms is too modern, too liberal as it basically acquiesces that they will have sex, whereas good Christians (perhaps) would encourage their children to abstain until married.

Also, Powell's characterization of HIV/AIDS as a plague upon this earth is pretty scary as well. I get the gist but that sort of language tends to belie a serious religious nutbar.

All in all, a shit article. 2/10.

In NZ where I live it is impossible in our mainstream media to find a single story that informs me as to why so many Americans will vote for Trump. Absolutely everything we get is either reporting his moronic bullshit or painting a picture of his supporters as rednecks, bigots or inbred idiots. I cant find anything which shares an informed or understanding view as to why so many will vote for Trump. No mention of the rust belt etc, no mention of people wanting jobs back in the US rather than disappearing overseas and no clear information about why so many dislike Clinton. Im not sure about other countries but we havent got anywhere near a balanced view.
Just for the record I think Trump is un utter twat.

Yeah, I know that, but still. It never ceases to surprise me.

True. As has been said there's a danger Trump is making people forget many of these other Republicans are are completely outdated in their views.

Pray the gay away, gay conversion techniques, prayer over needle exchanges. It's akin to when the Pope condemned condom use in Africa. I hope I will see the day where thinking like this is a thing of the past, or at least not something a politician can run their campaign on.

It was working on me until the third presidential debate when he talked about overturning Row v. Wade.

Here is a version of Hilary's CV, done by a CV company as part of their marketing!

People complaining about "false equivalency/balance" usually seem confident in having discovered the truth of things for themselves, despite the media's supposed incompetence. They're quite sure of whom to vote for and why. Their complaints are really about the impact that "false balance" coverage might have on other, lesser humans, with weaker minds than theirs. Which is not just snobbish, but laughably snobbish. So, they need to shut up.

Secondly, one of the main reasons the news media has been dumbed down over the years is because audiences have consistently rejected smart, responsible journalism in favor of clickbait stupidities. The Housewives of (insert random town) and Kardashians crush Frontline in the ratings. And people wonder why Trump gets a lot of coverage? He's the political equivalent show of the Kardashians.

Finally, in the words of Mencken, 'Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.' We will get it in a few days.

I'd show them my poll anytime. Except the dude, he can feck right off.

 That's better, you've been way too serious!

Now to contradict myself, and on a serious note, KellyAnne Conway and Corey Lewandowski arm in arm with the hashtag #TEAMWORK! But of course Corey has nothing to do with the Trump campaign anymore does he?

He doesn't seem like the type.
I don't know much about him. Just naturally sceptical of the impartiality of those whose career earnings depend on them being interesting, as well as right.

Especially when choosing to overrate Trump's chances but still favour Hilary's is a situation he can't really lose from, given if Hilary wins, it's what he said would likely happen and if Trump wins, he's the one who said Trump had a chance when others were saying otherwise.
Is Hilary certain to win? I thought all the polls where coming back saying things were quite close now?
I don't know. I just know other models are suggesting so and Silver's isn't.

Anyone following the Wikileaks revelations and still voting for Hillary?
