To be fair, there were also plenty of threads here at the time about Anthony Vanden Borre. It's not always a given how these youngsters will turn out.

Yeah, but I read that one with the benefit of hindsight fairly recently. Of course with 17 year old's it's hit and miss.

Throw the bank at him. We need this guy more than any club that has even a possibility of affording him.

£70 million might seriously tempt Dortmund. As I've said before a couple of quality signings and I think our future looks great. Gundogan, Coentrao, De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Januzaj, Rooney, RvP. That's some serious talent.

Indeed it is.

What makes you think gundogan fancy working for moyes, without any cl football, without forseeable potential for trophy, dortmund is a better bet for trophies.

And history and all only meant if you're part of it

If all else fails take the city approach $$$$$$

70m for a player whose just 2 years away from his end of contract is stupid.

Well we're desperate. Plus in the long run nobody would care how much he costs as he's world class and would be our key midfielder for the next decade.

70m is an outrageous sum of money especially when our team need more than 1 CM.

What's this about 70m? Who are we talking about? Not Gundogan?

Maybe I was exaggerating a little but we should still be prepared to pay comfortably over the odds for him considering our current position.

Now that Alonso is sticking at Real, let's get this one wrapped up before the World Cup.

I didn't realise he's only 23 years old. He can afford to bide his time at Dortmund until the perfect opportunity to move comes up. Like others have mentioned, moving to a United team bang in transition with potentially no CL football is a bit of a gamble compared to a move to one of the big guns in Spain.

70 mill should do

For 70 Mil € I drive him personally to Manchester. Paying that much for a player, who has not played for half a season and has only 1 1/2 years contract left would make the Bale deal look like the steal of the century. But if you are that desperate, go on...

£50m would be a good offer but his injury is a bit worrying. We'd need another 1-2 additions if we're to see the best of these players though. I'd like to see him with a more mobile partner than Carrick (a better Jones) and another attacker in the mould of Nani (but more reliable than Nani)

As we've seen with Kagawa you can't just buy a player and expect to play far more attractive football.

We don't usually get players that are yearned on the CAF, maybe with the exception of Berbatov. So don't torture yourselves ;)

70m is crazy. He's really good but he is on contract for only another 18 months. If he doesn't extend his contract, I think that 30m will do the job. If he signs another one, feck knows how much BVB would ask, but in any under circumstances we should not go above 50m.

Yeah and I was totally serious with that as well. Like, totally.

Don't give a shite how much we pay for quality, world class players. We've wasted so much money on crap and we need real quality now, even if we have to 'overpay'.

£200m warchest right?

£25million for Moyes' severance pay
£45million for Gundogan
£30million for Reus
£30million for Hummels
£70million for Klopp's enourmous pay packet and a giant Bavarian mansion to boot.

Edited.

would he wanna work under Moyes? I doubt it.

This whole thing about player x not wanting to play under Moyes is nonsense. Pay enough money, and any player will be willing to play just about anywhere (the exceptions perhaps being players not wanting to cross over to a rival - ie. Totti to Lazio.) Pay Gundogan what we pay Ashley Young, and I'm pretty sure he'd happily go along with a transfer.

Pretty much, players would join manager-less clubs.

lol

That's very cocky of you

Pay him what we pay Ashely young????

Lol.. Spain's tax free policy would only means 35k / week for him coming to United.

Stop being arrogant, we're not that attractive money wise.

If it's so easy explain Ronaldinho, Thiago, Fabregas, Hazard, Mikel, Essien, etc etc.

Completely different situation. The owners recognise that the new manager needs serious financial backing. In those days, even when we needed big players, we got some of them but we didn't go over the odds because SAF was trusted make it work anyways.

Don

We need injection of quality players. I agree with that.

But last summer was not the owner's fault. Moyes/Edward cocked it up. Moyes identifies Fabregas as his main target, even a fool can see it's not going to happen. Even if Cesc agent is tapping us up, he's still under contract and Barca surely won't let him go cheap.

I don't know if it's naivety or stupidity, but either of them is a bad signal.

The way I see it, he should have bought a solid CM (solid, not world class), and bolster LB and probably buy a couple of youth to blood. Come 2nd season build from that and start buying quality.

It's not ideal , but it's a reasonable task. Let's face it, we aint gonna buy 4-5 class player in a season.

And we don't expect Moyes to win the EPL, simply to steady the ship and allow him to stamp his mark, but so far he's looking more and more clueless by the day.
