For what it's worth, the newbie said there's been a lot of rumours from different sources that Gundogan's dad/brother/uncle who manages him has met with Real and Barca officials and it's thought that he won't move to the EPL.

Going to Barca = a huge career gamble.

He'll be competing mainly with Busquets, Xavi and Fabregas (not to mention Iniesta) - non of whom are mugs.

Madrid....Hmmm...could play the Alonso role next to Modric/Illaramendi. By all accounts, Khedira and/or Alonso's reaching their end there.

....come to United Ilkay , we can give you Anderson for free, to use a door stopper at your home!

Cant see any reason why we cant make this happen provided we have CL footy. We just need to stump up the money and "over pay" if necessary.

I go into the Gundogan thread and read 'no chance, he'll go to Barca to replace Xavi', then I go into the Koke thread and read it's a done deal that he'll 'go to Barca to replace Xavi'. Then I finally think, 'feck it', i'll go looking for some scraps and pop into the Oliver Torres thread only to find... yep - you guessed it.

These players are not all going to Barcelona, fecking hell.

They're going for an innovative 4-6-0 "false 4-3-3" setup.

There's your reason right there. We've refused to do this recently. Well except for Fellaini, of course, but feck knows why we'd do that for a player of actual quality.

We would have to completely buck our traditional, ineffective approach to signing top players.

Only way we have a chance is to offer considerably more in salary than the competition. We never do that but maybe we will finally acknowledge how desperately we need to fill that position.

To be honest, we deserve a Gundogan/Draxler window. Surely it can't always be everyone else's turn, the wheel has to stop on us once. A window like that would improve us before they even kick a ball for United, because it would send such a huge message out and I think will take a bit of pressure off Moyes too.

Jesus Christ. If any fans deserve that kind of window it would be an underachiever like Newcastle or Villa, not bloody United who've dominated English football for the past two decades.

Seeing as I shockingly need to clarify, I was speaking in context of other big clubs, who could easily afford to pull off such deals. We are in that bracket, although are generally last to the party while the same rich boys hoover up all the best players. Would be good if we stuck a couple fingers at them, and got players that they were all after.

I got what you meant, like the Lucas and Hazard deals. They seemed lined up for us, then Chelsea and PSG rocked up with the Lorry load of money and their eyes lit up with $s in them.

Didn't Sir Alex say it at the time, we had Hazard and Lucas done, it's just he wasn't paying their agents(rather than their old clubs) the numbers Chelsea and PSG spunked.

I reckon this is one Sir Alex-ism that'll be kept, fairly certain the Glazers have no taste for buying agents new boats and whatever.

Which is admirable, but ignorant of how football now operates. Sucks, but what can you do.

If we'd offered Raiola a boat, we'd probably still have Pogba. Would be cheaper than buying a 20m player in January.

While I agree, I'd certainly be able to live with the thought of these agents on their boats if we were to win a few more leagues and the odd champions league. Obviously, paying agents exorbitant amounts doesn't guarantee that, but it does guarantee the quality of player likely to mount such challenges.

I do hate the thoughts of agents pulling so much cash out of the football economy but our place on the high horse could set us back in the coming years. There are clubs willing to pay and as we have seen over the last few years, the lure of cash is greater than the lure of Manchester United, so we could be missing out on the top tier of players for quite some time.

You'd have to judge it on a case by case basis. If the player is good enough then maybe you need to swallow your principles for once and think of the greater good of the club. Most players probably aren't worth it though.

Just don't. Don't get sucked in. The Thiago one finished this off for me. I believe nothing now until I see them in the shirt and even then I would check their fingerprints.

Thiago wounded me badly, but I've got one more mega thread left in me. Who knows, Gundogan could prove fatal.

Didn't we buy Mendez a Bebe for exactly that?

Why Madrid though? Sahin went there and we all saw how bad that went.

They already have Modric, Alonso, Khedira, Illaramendi and Sahin still on their books, I think we have just a good a chance aslong as we pay up what is required.

If I were him and Madrid were after me, I'd probably pick Madrid too. I'd rather want to play in midfield with those players you mentioned rather than what we've got. Plus there's Ronaldo and Bale.

From the Real perspective I agree. Why would they be interested with that roster? However, you never know what Madrid is in the market for. I reckon that they'd never go for him or someone similar to him in January.

Would be great if we negotiated Gundogan with Borussia to solve our midfield problems, and when the deal is done, we went and paid the release clause of Reus. Imagine the wankfest?

You only see that sort of shit on FM and in your dreams. But yes, you would hear the sound of many zips being undone.

Or Fifa. And after getting our dreams crushed so much repeatedly, I think I'm turning into a scouser.

I'd actually feel kind of bad for being such cnuts and fecking another club over so much.

I did it on fifa, then Gundogan decided he was unsettled and left for PSG. Broke my heart as much as if it were to happen in real life :(

Really? I never sell any unsettled feckers in FIFA if I need them. Once City was offering me 100m+ for Marchisio. I refused

Sorry for digressing. Back to Gundogan.

Board sells them out from under me those dicks. City bought rooney for 250 million once. I had mixed emotions.

Yeah that's what happened to me, had no choice. Would have sold him for £125 million if I had the chance.

But hopefully we won't spend that much in real life..

Apparently Klopp told Skysports that Gundogan is available for 25m. Can't find the source though.
