While everyone's talking of Yohan Cabaye this is the transfer that United need to make happen, or at least the calibre that we should be looking at. Throw enough money at it and it could happen, I would even feel it worthy of a deal in January despite him being cup tied in Europe, our main target is getting through Moyes first premier league season in decent shape. Would also be looking again at Herrera, he's an incredibly mobile and fit athlete, exactly what we lack towards the end of matches, obviously the fee is always going to be an issue with basque players but we are looking rather desperate.

He wouldn't even be cup-tied for Europe because he's been injured all season and only played one or two Bundesliga games. We obviously won't be signing him in January anyway.

Jan Åge Fjørtoft, who seems to have very decent connections in Germany, seems to think that Gundogan to United is a possibility

Why are you doing this to us? With Thiago gone to Bayern, if there is a player in the world which isn't called Messi or Ronaldo that I desperately want at United, is him.

I just read his tweets on the subject, but I talk to him nearly every day so I'll get him to elaborate tomorrow :D

To be honest, we deserve a Gundogan/Draxler window. Surely it can't always be everyone else's turn, the wheel has to stop on us once. A window like that would improve us before they even kick a ball for United, because it would send such a huge message out and I think will take a bit of pressure off Moyes too.

Tell him to give us good news. I don't even care if he makes it up at this point, I just need to hear something good.
If it helps you, I asked him about Gundogan in the summer and he said that him to United was never, ever going to happen. The fact that he's going public with this does certainly mean that something has changed, and I've started to put alot of faith in whatever he says in regards to German clubs lately

Erm...Kagawa and Van Persie was hardly a barren window.

I really hate to be pessimistic and unfairly critical but I really do have a horrible feeling Moyes would play it safe and go for "proven Premiership quality" like Cabaye.

feck. Hoe depressing would that be. We wait 6 years for us to sign some midfielders and sort our dire midfield out and in the end it's Cabaye and Fellaini we get in. That for me stinks of exactly how to end up in midtable. Ashley Young is what happens when you don't buy the right quality in the first place.

I wish I could believe this...

Anyway, I get where Gundogan would fit into our team but wouldn't Draxler play in the Rooney/Kagawa position?

Left wing. For me he's a better 'winger' than attacking mid. He can cut inside and cause trouble but he's also got pace and skill.

Sounds more like personal opinion rather than inside knowledge. Besides I think that Gündogan is bound for Spain anyway. Staying at Dortmund for a couple of years more would also make sense, since Klopp has aided his development a lot and made him the heart of his team. However imo he would've signed a new contract by now if that was his plan.
Given Schweinsteiger's recent injury history (especially his ankle) there might even be a (however small chance) that Bayern might show some interest - what a meltdown that would cause here

That Jan bloke also said it wouldn't happen in January, which means to stand any chance of signing them we'd need to be in the Champions League, which we don't currently look like achieving. It does seem rather ridiculous that Gundogan is the midfielder we've been waiting on three years to become available but we won't be able to sign him because we're not in the Champions League, in large part due to the fact we've waited three years for the right midfielder to become available.

But why should he sign for a rather mediocre looking United right now, when Real and Barca are showing interest and Bayern probably will too in the not so distant future?

That's the thing, I don't see how on earth he could see a move to United as the best option for him at this time.

I am not saying we can't attract top quality but I just can't see him wanting to join a club in transition like we are when he has some potentially great options.

When it comes to transfers, logic goes out the window though. For all we know, Gundogans biggest wish is to play next to Ryan Giggs :D Logic says that Özil should've stayed at Real Madrid, rather than go to Arsenal. Logic says that Suarez should've moved to Real rather than stay at Liverpool. Those things are impossible to predict, and i'd rather stay positive when given a choice about hoping of a transfer up until the point where the player has made up his mind.

That would be too depressing to contemplate, probably the most depressing point being that those two actually improve on our current stock.
We should be moving heaven and earth to get someone of genuine quality in before the summer inflates the market.

We were also quite solidly after Gundogan when at Nuremburg, but he obviously felt Dortmund was necessary in his next step to develop. You never know but knowing we have wanted him for a long time may help swing it for us.

Thought he was Madrid bound but since Jan says United is still a possibility, I don't know what to think anymore.

After the Thiago fiasco I have lost all faith. :(
This Thiago thing is a weird one. I read an interview with Thiago where he said that he had no contact at all from Utd and that there was no approach. Its grown its own legs, twitter rumours become fact.....

Twitter rumors and De Gea. Poor lad so badly wants another Spaniard at United, and he's not the only one.

Why Madrid though? Sahin went there and we all saw how bad that went.

They already have Modric, Alonso, Khedira, Illaramendi and Sahin still on their books, I think we have just a good a chance aslong as we pay up what is required.

Just what the rumours are. That Madrid have some agreement or first option on him, and that he wants to go to Madrid. Alonso is in his final year of his contract and I suspect they will sell Khedira. Sahin will probably go back to Dortmund. Barcelona are also chasing Gundogan I think.

This is the key to everything. Pay to the proper transfer fee (overpay if necessary,) along with a big wage, and we have a great chance to land any player. Start dithering like las Summer, and you're bound to see a repeat of well…last summer.

German newbie said that Jan is not well connected except to BILD, who themselves are not reliable unless it's about Bayern or Schalke.

How good is Thiago doing anyways?
Only played 5 games so far after he returned from injury, but he's done very good. Though it's hard to say something different about any of our players this season. The whole squad has been outstanding so far. He's starting tonight, should be interesting how he plays against City, at least if City is playing a close to full strength team.

They're not. Hart is starting. LOL

I saw Thiago come on for Lahm in Moscow and slotted in nicely. Just looked silky on the ball and touch was impressive in the conditions. Didn't watch the whole game though because all games in Russia are wank

He called RVP to us first pretty much didn't he?. Also was always adament Lewandowski would go to Bayern.

He is also something to do with Sky Germany, I would say he has more weight than most ITK type people.
