Álvaro Morata | Chelsea player

Moyes was never a pushover when it came to selling players at Everton.

To wit, the United manager has minimal input in terms of sale prices under Woodward. Our managers are never even in Manchester over the summer. They always go on holiday.
What has them being in Manchester got to do with it? They have mobile phones you know and Mourinho is well known for calling player we are interested in we saw that last summer.

We could have had Fellaini cheaper if we had bought him earlier he had a clause in his contract but we waited till it had expired and paid more because apparently we're morons.

We bid 52 million for Morata ok they want more but not the usual we want closer to 60 million pitch no they want £78 million for bench warming striker and you think he's worth it, can i get some of what you're smoking please.

Never really watched Morata play, but watching some of these YouTube highlights I can see why Mourinho is after him.

Reminds me a little of Drogba with the power and directness of his play. Maybe that's just wishful thinking though.

Either way I don't think you can overstate the benefits of having a player known to Mourinho and to Pogba who hasn't really linked up with any of his team mates on a consistent basis yet. Maybe he could with Morata?

Can't see this happening. We price out De Gea so they will do the same with Morata.
Doesn't he have a release clause like all players in Spain? Not much they can do about us matching that if they play hard ball. I suspect we will near enough match it but we'll be insisting on instalments over a few seasons, not all cash up front. That's generally the way we operate.

So from what I've been reading on Morata, he seems pretty decent. Madrid's second highest goal scorer, behind only Ronaldo this season. I think there's a little bit too much expectation on him as an individual though. I mean, it would be amazing if he scored 20+ goals for us next season but I think the more important question is, what can he add to our team that will help get more goals out of the likes of Rashford and Martial?

We've got a great forward line on paper but they're not scoring enough goals and we've been too reliant on Zlatan to do the business for us. As well as scoring a shit load of goals, I'm hoping he comes in and has great linkup play which encourages more goals from the flanks and midfield. That's the kind of signings we need. Fingers crossed this works out that way.

Is Morata happy with his role at Real or will he push for a move? If he signs for us he will be our main striker, and we already have three Spanish players to help him settle in.

He seems quite similar to Diego Costa but without the nasty streak.
Remains to be seen whether or not he can be a prolific striker but hes certainly a good player

Seeing his record with Real Madrid is not very interesting, his ratio is good but scoring against mid-table to relegation fodder is not enough to make a judgment. Daniel Sturridge and Oliver Giroud would also score tons for Real Madrid when they are plowing teams that have given up. What I am concerned about it his woeful record for Juventus, with 8+7 goals over two full seasons where he played 29 and 34 games in the league. To be honest - how did he manage to figure in so many games and get so few goals? Any Juve-fans on here who can comment? I know his game is about more than goals, but these numbers are seriously low....
I don't know the answer, but the fact that Madrid bought him back from Juventus for more than they sold him for suggests that, despite his not so great scoring record, he did well at Juventus. To be fair he was a young player and I'm guessing he wasn't usually first choice.

Morata for 60m is good business.

90m would be excessive though, but that's the market nowadays.

Slowly getting on board with this, can feel my muppet juices stirring down below

You need to release it, preferably in the direction of the people that keep calling him Welbeck. Class player, hope we sign James too and a winger, that'll be a big boost to our attack.

There's a thread in the United forum about how we can get back to the top. You should post in it about how you reckon we can get better players by offering clubs less money.

How on earth are people downplaying Morata for being a fill in striker against weaker sides and scoring 20 goals? If you can score 20 goals playing against weaker sides then you are doing quite well. Every top striker gets most of their goals against weaker opposition, thats the whole point of them being in the team. The only players that can maintain their goal ratio in big games are Ronaldo and Messi.

Goals against the top 6:
Harry Kane has 4 in 10 starts
Lukaku has 4 in 11 starts
Zlatan has 2 in 6 starts
Costa has 3 in 10 starts

Have people forgotten that Harry Kane got SEVEN goals in two dead rubber games at the end of the season. The mark of a good striker is the ability to take advantage of weaknesses in a team's defence. And to question Morata's big game potential is strange since he was instrumental in the Champions League for Juventus.

I can get on board with that comparison.

Which ever way you look at it though he appears to have a style of play that has always flourished in the Premier League.

Can feel myself getting over Griezman already.

So is everyone ignoring the fact that he said after the champions league he doesn't want to leave? ADM all over again.

Don't know too much about him but glad Mourinho is going for a player in his mould. Having someone who can hold up play and challenge in the air is far more important than having pace up top, as so much here seem to think. We already have bucket loads of speed out wide, having a target man adds variety to our attack.

A question for those who have watched him more. Just how two footed is he? Seems to be comfortable with both feet, always a bonus.

And Ronaldo is happy in Manchester.

if he can do this against Bayern he should be fine in the premier league lets be honest.

Only once he has scored 20+ goals a season in his career and reading here makes you feel like we're signing another Rvn.

I presume the "Spanish Welbeck" is based on his goal returns in Italy? He came off the bench more in both seasons than he started games (11 and 16 starts respectively) and was still their second and third highest scorer.

Not bad considering he wasn't their main man in either season.

Such an underwhelming signing which is going to look even more baffling when we pay £70m odds for him.

For me it's just that were paying a Ronaldo or Pogba like fee for a Madrid bench player.

Maybe those people know a thing or two about football, hence the happiness?

I hope he isnt the only attacker we sign, it has to be him and a winger or a 10. We will get him i think by the end of the week he will be our player.
