15 goals in 14 starts and people are crying about his goalscoring ability.
Not long ago, I think Vardy was working in chip shop ;-) All good points, mate, I'm coming around on Morata, and I prefer him to Belotti and Lukaku as well, but there are fair points to be concerned.Yea but many of these same people thought that Zlatan wouldn't be able to score many goals here at age of 35.If it wasn't for his season ending injury, Zlatan would have scored 20 PL goals this season (with 30+ in all competitions). I think people greatly overestimate the Premier League. Not long ago, Vardy was setting a goalscoring record previously held by RVN in the PL. Lukaku despite not being very good technically managed to score 25 goals in the PL this season. Even 34 year old Jermain Defoe has managed to be a decent striker in the PL these past few years.
Morata has never been an average player. Not even when his goalscoring numbers weren't good. He has spent his entire career at two of the biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Juventus. He knows the mindset required for a big club and that itself is a huge plus, compared to the likes of Lukaku & Belotti. He's also technically much better than either of those players. Real Madrid could have started Morata in place of Benzema all season long and they still would have won La Liga & CL.
If Mourinho wanted a top dribbler with a velvet touch up front, he'd play Martial as his CF. Instead, Mourinho has seemingly identified Morata (a man he has personal experience coaching) as the player who will bring the correct ingredients to his United side.Yes but still not good enough to be the key figure leading the line at Manchester this season and certainly not worth what we'll be about to pay for him.

All you require for a world class team is the correct combination of players with the correct combination of talents. How complete or dominant Morata is is of secondary importance.
The price is irrelevant. Once the money leaves our bank account, United won't miss it and neither will any fan. But if the club do, they can sign a new sponsorship with someone. I wouldn't care about the figures involved in either deal. What only matters is getting the right players for the squad.
Signing a player who's a 100% fit for Mourinho's system is always better than signing one who's only a 95% fit, even if the former is twice the price.
Auba is very good on press and has solid aerial presence.
The price is relevant if we pay way over the odds all we will do is show other clubs they can easily milk us too. With an attitude like that its no wonder we've been so shocking in the transfer windows for the past 4 years when clubs make us pay over the odds whilst paying peanuts for our players. If Mourinho wanted a top dribbler with a velvet touch up front, he'd play Martial as his CF. There's a real lack of youtube videos in here
Fair opinion I think.
But if you were to choose between him and say, Lacazette or Lukaku, who would you have picked?
Moyes aside, our transfer windows have been excellent in terms of getting our targets. It's the managers who have failed to make the most of them. Paying over the odds has brought some great players here. If we'd paid less, we wouldn't have been more successful. The price is relevant if we paying way over the odds all we will do is show other clubs they can easily milk us too. I dont disagree with the rest of your post he could well be very good for us but it CANNOT be just him and Rashford this season, that wont be enough to challenge for top honours.
With DDG off the agenda I doubt we'll get him now tbh, reckon he'll end up staying.
But what about outgoings?Moyes aside, our transfer windows have been excellent in terms of getting our targets. It's the managers who have failed to make the most of them. Paying over the odds has brought some great players here. If we'd paid less, we wouldn't have been more successful.
If other people want to laugh at us because we pay a bit more than necessary, who cares?
But what about outgoings?
Zaha - 3.26 million
Kagawa - 6.80 million
M.Keane - 2.18 million
Evra - 1.62 million
Nani - 5 million
Chicarito - 10 million
RVP - 4.68 million
Rafael - 2.72 million
These price compared to incoming players (25 mill here 35 mill there) are insane! All these players played regularly for there teams and all of them did well after they left.
There's probably more but i feel that was a long enough list to prove my point which is we keep being rinsed and continuing to paying over infated prices will only add to our problem.

It's fine to have skepticism, it's a fair position to take. There are no guarantees out there. The problem is when people who haven't seen much of Morata at all judge him by his career goalscoring numbers. They refuse to accept any context for those numbers. Not long ago, I think Vardy was working in chip shop ;-) All good points, mate, I'm coming around on Morata, and I prefer him to Belotti and Lukaku as well, but there are fair points to be concerned.
Morata wont want to stay without a commitment on starter minutes while Zidane seems bent on doing all he can to get Benzema in to the France NT for the WC. As long as Benzema is not sold, I expect Morata to ask to leave.Madrid will need a replacement so unless they can get Mbappe this summer I feel he will stay at Madrid. They won't sell him without having someone lined up I agree.
I agree and personally I think Mourinho has a lot to do with that i know it isn't him doing the selling but its only since he arrived we have commanded better fees for outgoing players. We were definitely guilty of underselling, probably just to get a lot of them off the wage bill.
We seemed stronger in the most recent sales of Schneiderlin and Depay though.
Selling to cut the size of the squad would happen regardless of how much we pay for our purchases. It's a totally unrelated point. He'd might as well start blaming the price of his shirts on the nationality of this year's Miss World. We were definitely guilty of underselling, probably just to get a lot of them off the wage bill.

Mourinho doesn't negotiate ins or outs. It's all Woodward.I agree and personally I think Mourinho has a lot to do with that i know it isn't him doing the selling but its only since he arrived we have commanded better fees for outgoing players.

Fair point. I think we need more people involved in the discussion who've watched him. The eyeball test is just as valid, if not more, than stats, sometimes. It's fine to have skepticism, it's a fair position to take. There are no guarantees out there. If you can look at that outgoing players list and then look at what clubs are asking us pay for there players and not see a problem i can't help you understand. Our problem... of not having money?
No it doesn't. We've never been priced out of a potential purchase. If you can look at that outgoing players list and then look at what clubs are asking us pay for there players and not see a problem i can't help you understand.
We have money, lots of it, we lack a backbone an stature in the transfer market.
That needs to change.
This impressed me when i watched it.
Woodward has been here for years all the under selling happened whilst he was here Mourinho arrived and things changed, that is not a coincidence.Mourinho doesn't negotiate ins or outs. It's all Woodward.
The prices we command depend on who's willing to buy, and whether they want an auction. It's madness to think we're willing to undersell because we're willing to overpay. If anything, your two points contradict each other.

Moyes was never a pushover when it came to selling players at Everton.Woodward has been here for years all the under selling happened whilst he was here Mourinho arrived and things changed, that is not a coincidence.
We were willing to under sell because we lack a backbone and are pushovers. We are willing to overpay because of the same reason.
