Yea but many of these same people thought that Zlatan wouldn't be able to score many goals here at age of 35.If it wasn't for his season ending injury, Zlatan would have scored 20 PL goals this season (with 30+ in all competitions). I think people greatly overestimate the Premier League. Not long ago, Vardy was setting a goalscoring record previously held by RVN in the PL. Lukaku despite not being very good technically managed to score 25 goals in the PL this season. Even 34 year old Jermain Defoe has managed to be a decent striker in the PL these past few years.

Morata has never been an average player. Not even when his goalscoring numbers weren't good. He has spent his entire career at two of the biggest clubs, Real Madrid and Juventus. He knows the mindset required for a big club and that itself is a huge plus, compared to the likes of Lukaku & Belotti. He's also technically much better than either of those players. Real Madrid could have started Morata in place of Benzema all season long and they still would have won La Liga & CL.
Not long ago, I think Vardy was working in chip shop ;-) All good points, mate, I'm coming around on Morata, and I prefer him to Belotti and Lukaku as well, but there are fair points to be concerned.

Yes but still not good enough to be the key figure leading the line at Manchester this season and certainly not worth what we'll be about to pay for him.
If Mourinho wanted a top dribbler with a velvet touch up front, he'd play Martial as his CF. Instead, Mourinho has seemingly identified Morata (a man he has personal experience coaching) as the player who will bring the correct ingredients to his United side.

All you require for a world class team is the correct combination of players with the correct combination of talents. How complete or dominant Morata is is of secondary importance.

The price is irrelevant. Once the money leaves our bank account, United won't miss it and neither will any fan. But if the club do, they can sign a new sponsorship with someone. I wouldn't care about the figures involved in either deal. What only matters is getting the right players for the squad.

Signing a player who's a 100% fit for Mourinho's system is always better than signing one who's only a 95% fit, even if the former is twice the price.

The price is relevant if we pay way over the odds all we will do is show other clubs they can easily milk us too. With an attitude like that its no wonder we've been so shocking in the transfer windows for the past 4 years when clubs make us pay over the odds whilst paying peanuts for our players.

I dont disagree with the rest of your post he could well be very good for us but it CANNOT be just him and Rashford this season, that wont be enough to challenge for top honours.

Fair opinion I think.

But if you were to choose between him and say, Lacazette or Lukaku, who would you have picked?

Difficult to choose. Lukaku scores a lot of goals and is a flat track bully. Young as well. But I am not a big fan of the kind of the striker he is and wary of his erratic first touch and hold up play and his general history of fecking it up against big teams makes me a bit apprehensive(though I realize it's a bit overplayed as well). His price however is even more ridiculous going by what's being quoted. Lacazette, I have limited viewpoint. His record is pretty good and whatever little I have seen, he seems a good technical player but may not be a very Mourinho kind. But I'd rather hold my judgement simply because I haven't watched him regularly. Morata I like and I have mentioned it in my previous post.

End of the day, I'd take any but I personally prefer Morata as I see him as the most talented who seems to be getting over his average conversion rate.

Moyes aside, our transfer windows have been excellent in terms of getting our targets. It's the managers who have failed to make the most of them. Paying over the odds has brought some great players here. If we'd paid less, we wouldn't have been more successful.

If other people want to laugh at us because we pay a bit more than necessary, who cares? We earn money in order to invest it in the side. Not so the Glazers can swim in it like Scrooge McDuck.

Thank you sir.

He's got more variety in his game than I thought, I assumed he was a poacher/limited style.
Looking at the video I can see why Mourinho wants him, and he would certainly fit in our team too.

I'm on board this train

With DDG off the agenda I doubt we'll get him now tbh, reckon he'll end up staying.

Madrid will need a replacement so unless they can get Mbappe this summer I feel he will stay at Madrid. They won't sell him without having someone lined up I agree.

But what about outgoings?

Zaha - 3.26 million
Kagawa - 6.80 million
M.Keane - 2.18 million
Evra - 1.62 million
Nani - 5 million
Chicarito - 10 million
RVP - 4.68 million
Rafael - 2.72 million

These price compared to incoming players (25 mill here 35 mill there) are insane! All these players played regularly for there teams and all of them did well after they left.

There's probably more but i feel that was a long enough list to prove my point which is we keep being rinsed and continuing to paying over infated prices will only add to our problem.

We were definitely guilty of underselling, probably just to get a lot of them off the wage bill.

We seemed stronger in the most recent sales of Schneiderlin and Depay though.

It's fine to have skepticism, it's a fair position to take. There are no guarantees out there. The problem is when people who haven't seen much of Morata at all judge him by his career goalscoring numbers. They refuse to accept any context for those numbers.

Morata wont want to stay without a commitment on starter minutes while Zidane seems bent on doing all he can to get Benzema in to the France NT for the WC. As long as Benzema is not sold, I expect Morata to ask to leave.

Madrid can cope for a season without replacing Morata, with Benzema, CR7 and Bale taking turns playing in the middle, but their depth will take a huge hit if they lose both James and Morata and dont bring in any new attackers.

I agree and personally I think Mourinho has a lot to do with that i know it isn't him doing the selling but its only since he arrived we have commanded better fees for outgoing players.

Selling to cut the size of the squad would happen regardless of how much we pay for our purchases. It's a totally unrelated point. He'd might as well start blaming the price of his shirts on the nationality of this year's Miss World.

Morata's all-round game seems very good, and if he can add more goals he'll be an excellent signing and worth the quoted money. Building the team around him would hopefully bring that about.

He can also play both wings so his versatility would be beneficial.

Splitting the difference between both quoted figures would be around £64million. This is likely to end up around the sale price. In today's market I'd say it's worth it, especially given limited choice.

Mourinho doesn't negotiate ins or outs. It's all Woodward.

The prices we command depend on who's willing to buy, and whether they want an auction. It's madness to think we're willing to undersell because we're willing to overpay. If anything, your two points contradict each other.

Yep, so best to make a best and final offer with a cut off date, and then move on, the striker is the most important player we will sign this summer so we can't be messed around.

Fair point. I think we need more people involved in the discussion who've watched him. The eyeball test is just as valid, if not more, than stats, sometimes.

If you can look at that outgoing players list and then look at what clubs are asking us pay for there players and not see a problem i can't help you understand.

We have money, lots of it, we lack a backbone an stature in the transfer market.

That needs to change.

No it doesn't. We've never been priced out of a potential purchase.

Woodward has been here for years all the under selling happened whilst he was here Mourinho arrived and things changed, that is not a coincidence.

We were willing to under sell because we lack a backbone and are pushovers. We are willing to overpay because of the same reason.

I like Alvaro Morata, enough to look forward to him coming in. We have to remember that he is still very young and has time to really develop his biggest assets. A good header of the ball as far as I can remember from games he has been playing, as well as touch and technique. He is obviously not as good as Harry Kane when it comes to finishing, but I think he is a player that will contribute more to the other players on the pitch. That is something Mourinho likes for sure. Saying that, he needs to decide games on his own from time to time.

Seeing his record with Real Madrid is not very interesting, his ratio is good but scoring against mid-table to relegation fodder is not enough to make a judgment. Daniel Sturridge and Oliver Giroud would also score tons for Real Madrid when they are plowing teams that have given up. What I am concerned about it his woeful record for Juventus, with 8+7 goals over two full seasons where he played 29 and 34 games in the league. To be honest - how did he manage to figure in so many games and get so few goals? Any Juve-fans on here who can comment? I know his game is about more than goals, but these numbers are seriously low....

Right now I would choose Auba over Morata purely because the former is a real goalscorer. Two years ago he was lauded and was a sure thing for Real Madrid, now his star seems to have faded a little bit and I do not understand why. I saw quite a few Dortmund-games last season and he was always getting chances. Basically one goal pr. match, but there are no longer any Real-links and he is linked to PSG and sometimes Liverpool. Again, don't really understand it.... would be devastated if someone like Arsenal or Liverpool got their hands on Aubameyang.

Can't see this happening. We price out De Gea so they will do the same with Morata.

Moyes was never a pushover when it came to selling players at Everton.

To wit, the United manager has minimal input in terms of sale prices under Woodward. Our managers are never even in Manchester over the summer. They always go on holiday.
