That tweet is misleading. The full quote is more past tense. Mourinho saying that we had interest in Morata, but no agreement could be made.

Pity because Morata would be longterm, while Ibra is so short-term. I Martial and Rashford don't step up we could be looking for another striker next season.

I can only think that during the Morata negotiations they were trying to get DDG as part of the deal, so Woodward knows for sure they do still want him, perhaps he wants to flush them out early on to get it over and done with before the season starts, & draw a line under it once and for all.
