One is a quality footballer the other is a #9 lump for Pulisball that was pocketed by our CB's every time we played them, we play against tight defenses where his lack of agility and movement will be exposed.
People keep going on about how many goals against the lesser sides. Yes he does and we could do with those goals, but I think he will find said sides will defend against us a lot differently to how they did against an Everton or WBA.

Sorry to repeat what other people already said, but some years ago didn't United have Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov?

The above were used in a 4-4-2 system where they were rotated consistenly.

Jose predominantly uses a 4-2-3-1 system leaving only 1 spot for a striker.

Morata is a much better all round footballer, you need that in your top sides, players like Suarez, Aguero, Benzema, Lewandowski are all excellent footballers, not just goal scorers, Lukaku's all round game is poor and not good enough for a side aiming for the CL.

But surely Lukaku is better than say, Drogba when he was 24 playing for Guingamp??

Yep, a lot of his goals are scored after Everton are already up and there is lots of space to run into, he's not gonna break down tight teams, I really hope this ends up as bullshit to force Real's hand over Morata.

he's not gonna break down tight teams

Not on ground, But he can in the air . He broke man city defense with ease last year. One of the strenghts of mourinho is he uses players on their strenghts and weakness. When you cant break down , he will go to bypassing the midfeild and target man strategy.

I hope he develops like drogba.

… And was intending on buying Griezmann, and has to accommodate for Rashford, etc. Our tactical formation will continue to be flexible.

This 'teaching Real' stuff is a bit cringey when Real won the league/CL last season. If he stays at Real they'll have a more than adequate back-up striker who bangs in goals when he comes in. Doubt they're that bothered by it tbh.

I don't see how this scews Madrid over, it still doesn't appear nailed on they will sign Mbappe this summer and may have to wait another season, in which case they'd be better off keeping Morata for the time being.

You mean Fellaini football. Which means that is what we will be watching most of the season the way teams line up against us.

They wont care if he stays, But surely they want mbappe and will offload him some time or they will decide to offload benzema, while morata is a rotation option. If they offload him who will pay so much?

Flexible as in changing to a 2 striker system, rather than the 4-2-3-1 that has brought him unparralled success over many years in the game? Unlikely. He may alter tactics to suit the occasion, or tinker with a specific players role, but the default formation will be one he knows inside out, namely the 4-2-3-1.

I think it's pretty likely that Mbappe will stay at Monaco to secure regular first team football and increases his chances for the 2018 WorldCup. And then with another full season under his belt he'll make a move.

Fellani / ibra football . But unlike ibra lukaku is more mobile and gets in the box when he is a target man and also streches the defense as a attacking point.

Most people here think we're going 4-3-3, so I guess that's progress. Flexible as to featuring Rashford and Lukaku both upfront in supposed easier home games.

Still they need to offload one next season.

Maybe they're right, who knows. Remains to be seen.

Just don't see Jose as the flexible type in all honesty, not when it comes to a system he has favoured for over a decade.

Ibra also offered far more than Lukaku does with his back to goal, in the build up, defter with his movement in the box, makes better decisions and also a big game player.
Literally the only thing you can think of that Lukaku offers better than Zlatan is hes obviously quicker and can offer a threat in behind.

So what does he add to our game next season? instead of whacking it onto Ibra's head, we'll have an extra option of hoofing it over the top for him to chase inbehind?

I'm all for this personally. Madrid were asking way too much for Morata and at some point you have to tell them to jog on.

Exactly the opposite of why many never wanted him as a United manager, and on top of that Lukaku's hold up play is crap so that tactic wont work like it did with Ibra.

He didn't at Porto, Chelsea and Inter, he just used it at Real Madrid and Chelsea second spell. United has a 4-4-2 tradition and had a hard time breaking lower teams at home. Why wouldn't he do it? Besides, he effectively used 4-4-2 in some of the last games of the season, although a defensive version of it.

I'm delighted we won't sign this guy.

Same here. Not because Morata is a bad player, but because Madrid are over-valuing him. For me, Morata is a £60M striker. Lukaku should cost more, because he is EPL proven.
If we could get Morata for around £60M, I'd prefer him, over Lukaku.

They'll probably get nothing near what it seemed we were prepared to pay them for him. I think that's why they're screwed. They'll probably have to sell him for 20 million less in the future if they do sell him.
