Now we've got Lukaku we should offer £40 million take it or leave it. They'll probably just leave it though.
Think Madrid have made it clear often enough that given a choice, they'd rather not sell. If not for Morata's wish for first-team opportunities, I don't think they'd even have discussed a deal. This is a non-starter now.
I find it hilarious that Madrid thought they could milk us dry because we're desperate, and then out of nowhere we get another forward and tell Madrid to get fecked. Although if Morata really did have his heart set on joining and he agreed a deal, I feel a bit sorry for him.
We'll never know what went down with Morata, Madrid and our folks. All we can rely on is what we know directly:
1. Morata said he'd be crazy to want to leave Madrid
2. Morata said he'd like first-team opportunities
3. His agent said the United offer was "interesting" but it was up to the club
Beyond this, it's all rumour and intrigue. So unless someone writes a tell-all, we can all just make up whatever stories our minds feel happiest with...assuming we don't actually lose our sh*t and shell out another 80 Mn for Morata after spunking out for Lukaku...
Don't they want to fund their Mbappe bid? Morata has already told them he wants out too.
Don't see why they'd keep him.
Several reasons why they'd keep him. There's no way they can buy a full Spanish international and home-grown lad to be a backup striker who is already rated by some as better than their lead #9, who steps up to the plate whenever called upon, scoring big goals and who can also fill in out wide or as second striker at a pinch. In Morata they have the absolutely perfect backup player. Oh and they have no need to sell to fund a purchase - they are the second-richest club in the world, you do realize...and also have James and a bunch of promising youth players to sell (since they're excellent, but not as good as to make it into the best playing squad in the world as of today).
