Was he a starter?

That's my point exactly, if he is was that good he would have at least started most of the matches for Juventus. He has never been the main striker at any club, if he crumbles under the pressure of 80m then the pressure will be on Mourinho.

Again, important is subjective. I retract the adding to tally point, but his goal tally is predominantly against bottom half teams or clubs fighting relegation in la Liga, barring 3 clubs. As I say, important goals need more context.
Isn't that good for us then? Our struggles predominantly last season were against exactly such teams, especially at home, where our rivals picked up more points than we did.

Wrt available and on par (or more established) : Lacazette, Aubameyang, Icardi.

Not a fan of Lacazette, rate Aubameyang but he is also much older and isn't Mourinho type of striker. Icardi was my pick at the start of the window, but from what I heard Inter wouldn't sell him and anyone who wants him would need to trigger the release clause (£99m).

Ok, was just curious.

Because we would look desperate to sign a striker and teams could use that against us. Lyon aren't selling Lacazatte for 50m to Arsenal, but they'd probably take another 10 or 20m I'm sure and would probably raise the fee to that if we came knocking.

What exactly makes Morata "unproven" and Lacazatte "proven". Last time I checked, Morata has played in Spain and Italy, two MUCH superior leagues (especially Spain), had key goals and performances in the Champions League and has played (and scored) at a major International tournament. Lacazatte has done none of those things.

On top of that the qualities Morata brings seem more suited to a Mourinho team and our system and also importantly, he has a winning big club mentality. Always played with winners. World Cup winners, Champions League winners, League winners and has played an important role in the winning of all those wins apart from the World Cup.

Lyon might sell Lacazette for 60m to us. Lacazette has been scoring 20 to 30 goals for the past 4 seasons and he is a starter for Lyon, Morata has never been a starter for any club. La Liga is superior? The same league where only 2 teams are in the race every year? Even Balotelli would 20 score goals if he was playing with Ronaldo, Bale, Modric and Kroos. The main quality which we need is goal scoring, I would rather spend 60 to 70m on proven goal scorers than a player who might become a good player in the future.

People are comparing Morata to Robben, Sneijder, Messi and Ronaldo. Who next? Pele? Maradona?

For me 80m for Morata is nothing short of a piss take. He is worth no more that 45m. They can have a bonus clause of 35m if he single handedly wins us the quadruple.

No Morata scored some very important goals this season.

Scored first goal in 2-1 win against Celta
Scored winner in the 83rd min against Bilbao
Scored goal against Alaves when it was 2-1 to make it 3-1
Scored first goal in 3-2 win agaisnt Deportivo
Scored first goal in 2-0 win against Espanyol
Scored winner against Villarreal in 83rd min (3-2)
Scored 3 goals against Leganes in 4-2 win
Scored equalizer against Sporting Gijon (3-2)
Scored first goal against Deportivo in 6-2 win

That's 11 out of 15 goals were very important.

His "adding to the tallies" were 4 goals.
3rd goal vs Sociedad in 3-0 win
3rd goal vs Leganes in 3-0 win
3rd and 4th goal vs Granada in 4-0 win

In Champion league:
Scored winner against Sporting Lisbon in 95th min (2-1)
Scored 3rd goal vs Napoli to make it 3-1 (it wasn't as important as Madrid were leading in aggregate goals)

11 of his goals in the league were as starters, so he isn't exactly "super sub"

Wow, those are some very important goals. Real really needed those goals. Almost Ibraesque.

Seeing that Madrid won the title by just 3 points, some of them were definitely important goals. Don't get what's to laugh at that unless you are trying to somehow prove that Madrid's second top goal scorer last season didn't aid them in winning the title in any way.

Morata vs Lacazette. I think it's all about individual preferences. But one can easily see why Jose is after Morata.

You quite literally did. If that's not what you meant, you better change the construct of your sentence pronto.

Well, I'm not Woodward to tell you exact amounts. When people mention amounts here they know exactly what amounts we are going to pay?

No, they do not say "If we pay 80 mil for Morata, then we WOULD HAVE TO PAY .... ". Hope you get the picture.

Would be hard to find a post with more contradictions.

So Morata plays in a league where only 2 teams are in race but what about Lacazette?

Anyways since you are assuming some random things about Balotelli, here is the reality.

Lacazette scored 17 league goals (excluding penalties) - 139 mins per goal
Balotelli scored 12 league goals (excluding penalties) - 145 mins per goal

Btw La Liga is not just the league where only 2 teams are in race every year, it's also the league which is dominant in Europe for last 4 years winning every cup except Europa this season. Shitting on La Liga only to big up Lacazette?

Even Balotelli would 20 score goals if he was playing with Ronaldo, Bale, Modric and Kroos
Well Balotelli did almost score 20 goals playing for Nice this last season, so it potentially puts into context the quality of defending in the leagues as well.

Perisic to renew, Fabinho to PSG and Matic to stay at chelsea if Conte doesn't get Bakayoko+another CDM.

Can we please get a win on Morata?

Then let's not buy him, in fact let's not buy anyone because everybody is going to cost more than someone on an interweb forum thinks he is "worth". We simply cannot get a good/very good striker at the price you're suggesting. Not Morata, not anybody at all.

We will get what we need, fabhinho is also not a done deal.

Not sure why there is such an obsession with transfer fees, and for the most part people completely ignore the player's wage too.

We could sign say Aubameyang for £60m and pay him £250k per week, so £13m per year for 5 years = £125m total.

We could sign Morata for £80m and pay him £180k per week, so £9.36m per year for 5 years = £126.8m.

Yet Aubameyang is a bargain and Morata is overpriced despite the latter asset having a significantly larger value at the end of those 5 years.

It's not your money, why does it matter so much to you? Let the accountants and money men worry about that part of it, just think about footballing ability and suitability of the player.

Well this thread drifts into many directions but this is one of the most idiotic things that I've read here.

He is competing with himself for sure, for the most idiotic post.

But we have the money, why not just spend it? He could become a star like Messi or Ronaldo in the future.
why? he doesn't have a 3rd of their talent. at 23, Ronaldo and Messi were better than every player on the planet. I get what you mean though. No point sitting on money when we have a position to fill, but obviously clubs need to weigh up opportunity costs (lack of remaining budget for other areas). Morata would be nearly half our budget as I don't believe we have more than 200 million to spend. Morata should cost 50 million. It is what it is though.

I think Zidane wants him to stay, and I wouldn't be surprised if he stays if he get the right guarantees from Zidane. Time will tell.
