It has. His goals record is inflated heavily by the large portion of penalties that he scores. Give this number of penalties to any striker and he'll score more than 30 goals easily. It's not that complicated.
I dont get why we are so against players scoring penalties and for them to be counted. He still needs to step up and score. Its not a given with penalties. Strikers are the ones who usually get to take penalties. Its still a goal. I dont need to tell you how bad we have been over the past few years converting them, especially during the LVG years. And still he scored 26 goals from open play. Lyon isnt exactly a strong team so put in a better side and he may be score 30 easily. And speaking of penalties, Ronaldo scored 14 penalties during his 60 goal season two years. I didnt see anyone making an argument against that.

We need to pull out now, they obviously trying to get us to fund their purchase of Mbappe.

If Woody had any balls he would say no and walk away.

Welbeck couldn't finish his dinner, plus he's a crock.

Morata has hardly set the world on fire anyway. For all we know he could turn out to be a crook too when he comes to the PL. Also, lastly, Morata is not a great finisher either.

That is Ligue 1 only 26 if you count CL appearances.

No not overly impressive but consistent i can see why both Atletico and Arsenal have showed interest him.

Tall, strong and pacey too, a viable alternative to Morata but obviously not Mourinho's typical kind of striker despite sharing many similar traits to Morata.

Morata and Lacazette are nothing alike

80m for Morata - what a fecking joke. Get Welbeck back for 15m - dare i say, he's probably better than Morata anyway.

If you dare say that you would either be the biggest troll on the interwebs or you would be one of the most clueless football fans alive.

90m Euros is now being touted as the fee they want. I'd just add another 20m and go for Mbappe.

That's ridiculous. Can't you see the difference in a world class player and an average bench warmer? If we were paying 150m for Neymar, I'd be all in. We're paying 80m for fecking Morata so that Real can buy the next biggest talent Mbappe for just 10-15m more. It's daylight robbery
Do you actually believe Mbappe will move for 90-95mil Euros or did you just put it in there anyways to justify your outrage?

Also, robbery would be if Real put a gun on our head and forced us to buy him for 80mil. They're not, if we don't think it's worth it, we're free to move on. We haven't though which should tell you that people with far more knowledge of the club's finances, the transfer market in general and Morata's worth as a footballer to us think he is worth it and it's not daylight robbery.

We will end up paying what they want. The main problems for us are 1. We are desperate for a striker and 2. There is a real lack of available good forwards out there. There's only Lacazette who I can think of who would suffice.

I don't know how we're bad in converting them. How many penalties have we missed in LVG seasons ? The fact we're not even getting penalties at all to start with. We got only 6 penalties this season as a whole. I'm not against them but if your team is getting many penalties and you're shooting all of them then your names are inflated. You can't buy a striker because he shoots penalties well, right ? you buy striker for other attributes and shooting penalties well is a boost. Ronaldo is a different case because he was a winger, not a striker.

Lyon is terrible defensively but they have a good attack with good names. Their defense is what costing them a lot.

I was thinking the same thing. If I was Woody i'd probably make a 'take it or leave it' offer for 75m and if they mess around then just do that.

Btw, I skipped over this post thinking it was someone having a laugh at the outrage about his fee in the thread. The posts since prove otherwise. Mind fecking blown that this was a serious post.

It wasn't a serious post. I don't find Morata justifying 50m - let alone 80 fecking million.

No one is saying to get a striker because they convert penalties. But just because he scored 11 penalties shouldnt diminish his numbers. And what difference does it make if Ronaldo is a winger or a striker? He is their primary penalty taker and he scores an average of 8-10 penalties a year.

Forget Morata and get Mbappe for a bit more...problem solved.

You think we can get Neymar on the cheap? Would definitely add some attacking quality to the side. Maybe put in a cheeky bid for Messi since his contract is running out.

It inflated his numbers much more than they were. I don't think we can argue about this.

It does make a difference because Ronaldo wan't your main striker that gets most of chances up front.

Anyway, what is Lacazette other attributes that you noticed from his goals that make you favor him over Morata or other strikers except the numbers ?

This pretty much. Even at their advanced ages, I'd gladly pay 150m for either Messi or Ronaldo.

And yet somehow paying €90 million for a striker and being worse off than we were last season in the strikers department is appealing to many on here.

Why would we worse off ?

In terms of playing style Morata is the perfect Mourinho player. A complete striker that has all elements to his game and seems to be getting better every year. He also offers things Zlatan couldnt give us anymore at his age. In terms of goals Morata has similar output as Zlatan but in half the minutes played.

Morata is a very good player. If anything he reminds me a bit of a young Torres.

He isnt first choice at Real Madrid but he would be at most top clubs and none of the other strikers we are linked with would be first choice at Real. It isnt for nothing that Zidane has been trying hard to stop his transfer.

No he is not worth 90m but people were saying similar things about Pogba last summer. And in the same way if it works out, it will be labelled as a bargain in a years time.

I think we will be overpaying for any striker, Morata or someone else. But I think Morata has more likelyhood to work out for us than all other strikers we have been linked with.

So I dont care how much we pay as long as Mou is getting the players he wants.

Well, not really. Every team in a top division in the world has at least one striker and by definition the vast majority can hit the back of the net. If we can only find two strikers in the world who are good enough to lead our line then our scouts arent really earning their crust.

Our revenue will easily cover a transfer fee for Morata but even in todays market Morata isn't worth anywhere what we are being asked to pay.

Morata for £55 million - About right what we should be paying and would constitute value in the market.

Morata for £65 - Inflated market price above market value but could live with that price if he starts well.

Morata for £78 million - Absurd price having our pants pulled down and spanked. Paying a world record fee for a Spanish striker that isn't first on the team sheet for either club or country.

This isnt just how l view the transfer but how United should be viewing the transfer too.

Those saying we should just pay the fee Real Madrid want show why they have no grasp on how to run a buisness or how to negotiate.

So let me get this straight, we pay 65 MILLION for him and that's ok. But we throw another 10 or 11 mill on top on that and you walk away. That's just absurd. When we're talking about these huge fees they almost mean nothing to us mortals, so i just find it funny that 65 MILLION for a him is fine, but around 75 is so crazy and absurd that you would veto the transfer.

Again, his worth can only be determined by how he performs for us. Just to delve into hypothetical for a second, if he scored 25-30 goals next season, and catapulted us to a title would he then be worth it?

Surely your main concern as a Man Utd fan should be how he performs for us? Why does the money matter to you? This is why we make all this money for. We spend an absurd amount of money paying off the Glazers' debt, i know where i would rather see that money go, and that's on transfers for players who could possibly take us to the next level. I'm a big fan of Morta and believe he could do that for us.

I'm probably being nieve in the workings of scouting etc but why is it city can pluck a player like Jesus for 32 million euros and he scores 7 in 10 in his first season in premiership and we are looking to pay 90 million euros for Morata?

Because they didn't sign Jesus from Real Madrid.

For one thing, we are desperate for a striker and everyone knows it.

Agreed, who really cares how much we eventually pay.Christ sake Everton have just spent £30m on a young keeper.Money in football is just ridiculous now.
Pay whatever it takes, just get him.We are the most valuable club in the world,Next season once we've spent the best part of £250m we still will be.
