Álvaro Morata | Chelsea player

Goals per minute stat can't be the reason why a team like Man Utd buys a striker. I can find you plenty of players who have better goals per minute stat. There is a huge difference in being that player who leads the line for 90 minutes for a team that would in most games be happy to score 1 or 2 compared to being an impact sub for a European giant.
Whatever you hear I'm pretty sure you will try to turn the argument against Morata so there is no use replying any further. You will just have to watch him next season.

And yet, some of our fans would tell you that he's better than the premier league experienced Lukaku who has scored 20+ league goals in last three of his seasons playing for Everton and who is actually a few months younger.

I haven't seen a great deal of Morata but I personally don't think Lukaku is now or will ever be a world class forward for a top side. I am sure he will always score a reasonable number of goals but his all round game is quite poor.

I was just making the point that Mourinho looks for more from his strikers than just goals. Drogba and Benzema were tasked with bringing others in to play and most of the goals in those two Mourinho sides came either from midfield or out wide. Morata will score plenty, but he'll also be expected to bring Rashford, Martial, Mata, Pogba and Mkhitaryan (and possibly a new wide forward) in to play, something he is far more adept at than Lukaku.

Fair enough if he does actually do that but our team needs goal scorer more than anything else right now. I have a strong feeling that Martial and Pogba are going to step up big time next season so that pressure of goal scoring may not be the same. But for now I am worried that the learning curve might be higher for someone like Morata as compared to Lukaku.

You guys will have a hell of a striker in your hands, maybe i can give you a bit of an insight(considering i watched all of his games for juve):
The guy is a beast, what he thrives on is mostly counteratacking football and you will be suprised how pacey he is and how good he moves off the ball. But what really makes him great player to have in your squad is he is clutch af, big game player and i can assure you he won't hide in those derbies. I think he will suit perfectly into Mourinhos playstyle, considering he also tracks back and contributes in deffence. TBH i was a lot more frustrated of the loss of Morata and Vidal, than i was when we lost Pogba, so that should speak for itself.
Anyway a lot of you that havent watched him and judge him only on his stats will be in for a big suprise!

I really love this post.

Because the amount of sources saying we're in for Belotti too, meaning one would probably play on the wing. Morata can play on the wing.
I was under the impression that we're in for Belotti as a backup plan to Morata.

But if he's bought for the purpose of being played on the right in a 4-3-3, then we're not going to get the best out of him.

Such is the ridiculousness of transfer season, making up teams based on who we are linked with.

Maybe wait for the pre-season tour where most of our signings are done to see how our team is going to line up.

It wouldn't be a proper transfer season on the Cafe without the speculation and team formations :wenger:

For me, in very simplistic way of thinking, is to find the Saha instead of the RvN.

Saha just made the team of consisting Rooney and Ronaldo play better than RvN was. I was thinking, or more hoping Morata would be the Saha for the likes of Martial and Rashford, and others of course.

:drool::drool:

Morata to score the winner followed by DDG to reveal a shirt underneath that says 'feck Real'

Any new news today?
Some crap Spanish tabloid thinks Chelsea will bid. Miguel Delaney thinks he'll have a United medical this week. Most still saying it's a matter of agreeing a fee. His agent confirmed United's interest but said he doesn't know when his future will be sorted

The saga continues then lol

How exactly? The only out and out striker we have is Rashford. You think three strikers is too many?
Unless we change the system, it wouldn't make sense. They all want to start and won't be happy serving us back-up options. Morata won't go below 70m, so yes I expect him to start every week. Unless we play with two strikers suddenly
I don't see it happening. We're hardly going to spunk 60+m on Belotti to serve as back up to Morata?

Looks like there was an update on the ManUtd website saying we agreed a fee and then they deleted it.

i still struggle to believe this is as far down the line as suggested. It'd be all over marca if medicals and such were imminent.

Chelsea seem interested according to reports
Ahhhh Haaaa

Chelsea want Lakaku the whole world and his brother knows it, do you just go round believing every random lie you read? Come on man they are no where near this or you would of heard more on them than us and the price would be the €90M Real looking for and probably higher, if this was a two horse race.

On a seperate point: DDG has ruled himself out of any move I would say. The fact that us and both Real have said the deal wont happen, is just not good enough for the rest of the clickbait/tabloid world. I looked for DDG's reaction to our statement and when none came. I and you can be as sure, as one can be on these things. That DDG is actually happy to stay.

Of course Real could offer €200M and im sure an offer like that would be accepted. But maybe DDG is not as fond of Real as the media like to paint. I still say he felt really pissed off at them in 2015 and fax gate. But money talks in this business so who knows and even if you or I did. It could all be reversed by more money a few days later.

€200M??? Yea i know, i know, its only to prove a point.

Other people on twitter saying they saw it too, all at the same time, but I dunno if they mean the page itself or just the shared image doing the rounds

Ah muppet season

Surely Jose wouldn't buy Morata to play him on the wing, would he?
If we were going for a Real Madrid's type of 4-3-3, with extreme-forwards, like Rashford/Martial on the left, Belotti through the middle, I think Morata could play as extreme-forward on the right. If I'm not mistaken, that's where he had some appearances in Real Madrid with Mourinho like that.

I agree with this - didn't RM buy him back (with the clause) for about £30m? He has featured more this season and got a decent goal return but surely his price hasn't doubled!? If he had become the main guy at Madrid I could see sense in the huge fee being touted but it seems to me he is firmly behind a number of other attacking players in the pecking order there, despite his goal return.
The flaw in this logic is that it wasn't a market's price but a pre-existing condition in his contract. Although obviously he is overpriced

Looks like someone on twitter got a screenshot of it (or photoshopped it?)

Look at the bottom banner. "This image was created by clone zone, a tool that lets you copy webpages and edit their contents" or something like that.

Fair one. I couldn't even read that! Was just posting it as someone else said they saw it. Did suspect it may be shopped or fake.

It would have to be someone happy for a squad role. I mean if one of Rashford or Morata gets injured then we won't even have an option to bring off the bench. Three strikers is a must if you're competing in Europe.
