Álvaro Morata | Chelsea player

Exactly. Zlatan's injury has changed what he wanted. I actually thought he would buy both him and Griezmann. That would have been some double act. So we either need another No. 10 or he will have to trust what we have and hope they can produce some goals.

We still need more because even if Morata is as good or a little better than Zlatan, that wasn't enough, we need even more goals from the wide forwards.

Really wish we'd try hard for Willian.

Hah.. Have you ever not signed anyone?

The fans won't be happy im sure if you let Morata and James go.

Last season we only brought Morata back from loan and fans were happy with the summer we had.

James is not needed so he's leaving and we don't need to replace him.
Theo Hernandez (LB) is already signed but it's not official yet (Coentrao is gone to Sporting with us paying 90% of his salary lol).
We need a replacement for Casemiro - Llorente coming back from Alaves loan.
We need replacement for Pepe - Vallejo coming back from Frankfurt loan.
The only player we need to replace is Morata - Mbappe or a stop gap until next summer I really don't know. If we find a decent replacement the fans will be happy. If we buy Mbappe they will be ecstatic.

I agree, only replacing Zlatan won't change much, unless one of Martial, Lingard, Mikhi and Rashford start scoring suddenly. No way Mourinho will be going into the season without further reinforcement upfront.

I think though, that replacing Zlatan's contribution will prove to be the most difficult in this window, hence a 9 being the main priority for Mourinho.

Agree on Willian as well, although I have a hard time seeing Chelsea selling him considering their lack of depth, having CL play.

I've even read posts at RAWK saying how much they rate Morata for they NEVER say anything positive about a potential Utd signing.

He's a good player, make no mistake about it.

Crazy how powerful they are in the market. Effectively as powerful as Real, with or without the CL.

From the tuz forums. Yet our fans feel like Jewish kids at Christmas.

Shed End:

Supposedly going to Man Utd now, wtf!

I would rather have Morata than Lukaku

Wow! No doubt Man United will up their bid and get him, what a signing he will be for them, Conte must be fuming!

Me too. It's like hell freezing over whilst some of are trying to get to grips with supply and demand.

For earlier posters who had problems understanding basic economics.

i think so. Conte wanted Morata. Emenalo and co wan Lukaku. Typical Chelsea.
The high ups at Chelsea want Lukaku, therefore rattling Jose's cage a bit. Thing is Chelsea have been good because Costa was a nasty so and so. He rattled defences. Not sure Lukaku is that sort. Costa would pick a fight. I think if a defender intimidates Lukaku he might just go quiet.

What ? Why would they do that at Chelsea specially and not at Everton where it never bothered him ?

Lukaku will be a downgrade from Costa for them, imho.

fecking by 50%. Costa can actually play footie. Yes he's a bastard but he is a good footballer and a good goal scorer. Lukaku is only one of those.

He was playing for WBA and Everton. Chelsea is on another level. Like all the top teams he will not get the freedom he is used to. At least our club backs the manager and who he wants. Not that the board want to prove a point to a previous manager.

Griezmann is definitely the better player at the moment. All I'm saying is that I think Morata has another level to reach, whilst Griezmann is probably as good as he is gonna get.

I'm obviously assuming that Morata keeps improving at the rate he has in the last three years since he went to Juve.
They are very different players. Griezmann is a pacy forward who excels at scoring off the counter-attack. He is superb at playing with his back facing or behind the goal. He can score from a variety of positions, and finally, is great playing alongside another centre-forward.

Morata is very different. He's predominantly a back-to-the-goal striker, who excels at headers, and is great at finding space to launch shots. He also is great at hold-up play.

Morata is the perfect Mourinho striker. Griezmann is skilled enough to excel in any system, but is best used paired next to a more central player. Had we gotten Griezmann, I wouldn't have been surprised if we played him on the right wing with Valencia, allowing Griezmann to play in the centre-right behind a main striker.

In a vacuum, if we were signing just one to be the striker, the choice is Griezmann. For Mourinho's system, in the future, I think Morata may actually be even better.

The ideal world would be one where we could eventually have both Morata and Griezmann. But, for now, I am more than thrilled with Morata. I think he will become world class playing under Mourinho.

He's probably quoting that. :)
Cheers :)

I've never understood this.

How can you be a bad footballer yet a good goal scorer?

Well the Costa is good at holding the ball up and bringing the others into play. He can drop deep or run into channels and create opportunities for his team mates. With Lukaku I just see him as a rudimentary target man. Of course he is good player. He's a bloody international professional but I just think a complete striker can offer so much more than just score goals.

Hey, want to see this celebration with Pogba when he scores against them again next season.

*hoped to find a better video with a commentary, though.

From the many posters saying Mourinho can't hold a job for more than three years.

I was taking the piss, in case you didn't notice. I guess I can't blame you given the amount of crap flying around.

Fair enough. Sarcasm is pretty hard to pick up in text form. Apologies.

I compared Morata and Lukaku for their minutes per goal or assist for the last three seasons in league and Europe. I count assists the same as goals because a goal created counts the same as a goal scored.

Lukaku: 14/15 Premier League 10G 5A 2876min 191.7min/GA; Euro League 8G 2A 632min 79min/GA
15/16 Premier League 18G 7A 3174min 127min/GA
16/17 Premier League 25G 6A 3267min 105.4min/GA

Morata: 14/15 Serie A 8G 5A 1321min 101.6min/GA; Champions League 5G 2A 744min 106.3min/GA
15/16 Serie A 7G 8A 1456min 97.1min/GA; Champions League 2G 2A 534min 133.5min/GA
16/17 La Liga 15G 5A 1331min 66.5min/GA; Champions League 3G 1A 165min 41.2min/GA

If Real were not fairly assured of getting Mbappe this year or next, and paying his transfer fee with the sale of Morata and James Rodriguez, they would be absolutely insane to sell Morata at any price. United getting him for 73m euros is good business IMO. If United had a proper player development program and player development strategy, like Real, it wouldn't be absolutely necessary to spend ridiculous transfer fees on quality players.

Yeah that is true but that has feck all to do with being intimidated by other defenders. He'll either be good enough or not to step up.

I love how everyone is referring to the 'supply and demand' mechanism. That's a theoretical model applicable to a perfect market with standardized goods or services. Football players are probably as far away from standard you can get.

Tell me how Real's player development strategy is better then our's?

Not happy if this happens.

€70million for him and potentially another £40million on perisic. I would knock both of them players and that is a lovely chest to go and get a world class out and out striker who has proved his worth in the prem.... Harry Kane.
This is getting tiring, Harry Kane is not some grocery item on the shelf with a stated price and available for whoever is willing to pay. When will it sink into your heads that a player has to available for sale and willing to come for a transfer to occur?
