Going to this one - anyone know which pub around Liverpool Street the United fans might be beforehand?

In hindsight I’m expecting this to be tougher than City. They’re coming off the back of a good win, and we saw what they did last time. They gave us a lesson in football worse than the bigger teams so far.

He needs to rotate I think but I fear that no Amad, Mazraoui etc might just be a step too far right now. Hopefully those that come in can step up.
The way we lost to them last time around wants me to desperately beat them at their ground. Hopefully Amorim keeps rotating to a bit minimum.

    Fingers Crossed

Really hope we take this just as serious as the league games and only make the amount of rotations that we have been each match.

Absolutely don't want to see a starting XI that you just wouldn't see selected in the league - with all the 'key' players rested in one go. They've all been on rotation of late so none of them should desperately need a rest, or been desperately starved of game time, so no reason not to carry on just rotating as we have with a few like for like switches each game.

It's going to be a tough game whatever selection we make, but really hope we give ourselves a chance and take the game serious and try and build on the momentum of the last two wins.

Tough game. In football a week is a long time. After the high of City we can easily come crashing back down.

But feels like playing away will help United here, no need to go all out attack from the off, solid and methodical might be the way to victory.

Would like to see Harry start again tbh.

We play Bournemouth on Sunday, Wolves next Thursday then Newcastle 4 days after and Liverpool the 5th Jan (after Arsenal etc)

But to be honest, I would be happy with 3 wins before Pool (even if Newcastle will be tough) so it's our only chance to rotate the team and use this game as a fitness booster for some of the guys.

I don't see us rotating much after this knowing the period.

This is going to be a fascinating match. Interesting to see how we play against a high line/high pressing team.

We have faced two such teams under Amorim, Arsenal away, where we were defensively ok in open play and kept the ball ok mostly in our own half but didn't do anything going forwards. Against city hard to judge cuz they are so poor right now, having said that hard to know how much their poor pressing was down to us vs down to their form.

Spurs completely dominated us at our home with that style earlier this season. So will be interesting to see how we match up now with this different set up even if the teams are not going to be first choice.

    Onana
    Yoro, De Ligt/Maguire, Lindelof
    Antony, Casemiro, Eriksen, Malacia
    Rashford, Garnacho
    Zirkzee
This is how I'd line up. Given the fixture list, I think rotation is essential and most of the team have something to play for or a point to prove.

I think this team should be capable of beating Spurs too. I'd have a strong bench too.

I keep seeing Antony, Casemiro, Eriksen, Malacia for WB's / CM's.

I really hope we don't go with that combination. Too many players lacking game time / legs starting all at once.

Happy for Casemiro or Eriksen to start, but not partnering each other. Being partnered by a Mainoo or Ugarte.

And happy for Antony or Malacia to start, but not both. Personally, prefer Antony as Malacia is still working his way back to fitness and sharpness and I haven't much faith in him starting in a tough and important game (tough knockout QF away more important than a random home league game for me).

The central midfield pairing of Cas and Eriksen got tried in Amorim’s first game v Ipswich and got the runaround. Neither has been seen much since. He might start one but can't see him starting both again.

Almost always would I advocate resting players to prioritise the league, but this time around I would prefer to see us going full strength and see if we can build momentum and also win again away at one of the better clubs.

Spurs will put everything into this given their barren spell over the years (and years, and years) and I'd hate to see us put out some mishmash team that loses easily.

    I fear that's what's going to happen

I'm all for a completely rotated squad. Focus needs to be on moving up the PL table. 3 of the next 4 PL games are against teams ahead of us. I'd start no one that is considered a regular starter.

I’d like to see Eriksen and Antony given a game here. Not seen much game time this season. Field a strong squad with a couple of rotations. Could go either way this… spurs are hit and miss as are we.

Can see Harry starting if Amorim tends to use similar tactics to the ones against city. Low/mid block. If he wants to play an high line which spurs do then Yoro would be the better fit. Could be an end to end game this one.

Ye 2 away wins against top opposition can build real momentum and get the players believing more in Amorim.

Like to see Anthony and Amad together again. Yoro too, along with Mainoo and Ugarte to form a partnership.

That was yet another redundant pre match interview with the manager. Should do weekly gossip interviews with the manager instead. Did we get any news at all on players other than Rashford and Garnacho?

Rotate as much as possible and focus on the PL game this weekend instead plz.

    You think Rashford will start?

Have to admit though Ruben had a master class in his presser. “Yes it’s a new challenge here”

Spot on. Go strong for a cup QF and rotate at the weekend if we have to. It should be the same approach if we reach a Europa QF as well.
