Those are not mistakes. He is just not good in basic defending. He has a lot of other qualities though.

When I saw him involved in the 7-0 drubbing by Liverpool, i Knew he would get found out eventually but people were taking in by the hard man act and throwing his weight around to see that he lacked pace and the fundamental aspects of positioning and defending which is why he is always lunging in to last ditch tackles. Great defenders are not doing this kind of reckless tackles because they already have the positional awareness to anticipate threats
