Tough part of the season with fixtures coming thick and fast. I know there is temptation to put in a second string, however I'd like us to go for this and who knows pick up some silverware this year. (Emirates in the FA Cup will be very tough). The longer Amorin takes to won a trophy (especially given ETH won 2) will just pile pressure on him, even if there is a general trend upwards on and off the pitch.

Rashford and Garnacho to get a chance to rebuild in this

    Onana
    Yoro - Maguire - Lindelof
    Antony - Casemiro - Ugarte - Malacia
    Eriksen - Bruno
    Hojlund

Bench: Amad, Dalot, Mazraoui, Mainoo, Zirkzee, De Ligt, Martinez, etc.

Plenty of options of the bench if we're chasing the game. Should rest some players ahead of the league fixtures coming up.

In hindsight I’m expecting this to be tougher than City. They’re coming off the back of a good win, and we saw what they did last time. They gave us a lesson in football worse than the bigger teams so far.

He needs to rotate I think but I fear that no Amad, Mazraoui etc might just be a step too far right now. Hopefully those that come in can step up.

I think it'll be quite a strong team because Amorim will want to win this competition.

I feel like we need major rotation to keep our best players fresh for the league games. Amad, Mazraoui, Højlund and maybe even Bruno probably need a bit of a rest. Therefore I also expect a less polished performance, and maybe not the best result.

We can risk the league cup to enable us to put out stronger teams in the subsequent three PL games. There is only two points two 7th, and it would be good psychologically to move up to around that area.

I know it is very poor thing to say and controversial but we need to rest our strongest 11 for this game. League cup is not a priority for us, in the current circumstances. Even if we win it, it does absolutely nothing for our rebuild project

Our #1 priority is winning Europa League to get back into Champions League, both for money it means and because that is where we should play

Next priority is finishing as high up as possible in EPL because EPL result will always be out main measuring stick

Everything else simply does not matter, not even FA Cup, let alone League Cup. They are a distraction when we are trying to rebuild

Don't sleep on Europa. No drop-in's from the CL anymore; we should be aiming to win it. Especially as top 4 looks far from likely. But yes we should be aiming to win this too.

Europa League should be the top aim, gets us into the CL. Winning the league cup is nice and all but we have won 2 trophies in the past 2 years, I'm all for whatever is best for our development and for now I'd say that's rotating in this competition.
    Both very fair

I'd like Amorim to play a B team in the Carabao Cup. The FA Cup and the Europa League are more important IMO and the league is not a write-off yet either.

We also have a relatively big squad now and many players could do with minutes who haven't played recently.

Most realistic chance at a trophy isn’t it? Rather go all out for it
I don't claim to speak for everyone, by any means, but I think focusing on minor cup competitions ahead of the League has become a bit tiresome. We did well to win the FA Cup and League Cup in the last couple of years, but our league performance has been shit. I don't believe the potential of another League Cup run, excites many people at this moment in time.

We're only 6 points from Forest at 4th. Everyone but Liverpool is shit this season. It's entirely possible to turn it around and get a UCL spot for next season, which the League Cup cannot give. I believe that should be the priority. Turning that around will send more of a signal that "Manchester United are back" and instil some optimism ahead of next year, than winning the League Cup IMO.

    Aye, good points each.

If United win on Thursday the upcoming schedule will be

Sunday Jan 5th Liverpool (A) in PL

Wednesday Jan 8th league cup semi final 1st leg v Liverpool, Arsenal or Newcastle (2nd leg in February)

Sunday Jan 12th Arsenal (A) FA cup

Really don't give a monkeys about this game.

Rotate the players, rest Bruno, Rasmus, Amad, De Ligt etc. and if we win it's a nice bonus but the league cup doesn't feel particularly important this year. Need to focus on the league and Europa.

Going against the grain here but I think it's beneficial to give players rest here, LC gives us nothing and some of players like Dalot, Maz, Amad all look knackered and we want to keep them fresh. Going out here isn't the end of the world as the competition should be our 4th choice.
Agreed. At least the FA Cup would get us Europa again. This one would be nice to win but the Conference League isn't very special, either from a financial or a competitive standpoint.

The Prem should have 5 UCL places this year, which means 6 + 7 both get Europa (as long as the FA cup winner is in the top 7). Top 5 is still possible and top 7 is very doable. On top of that you have this year's Europa (where a win would get us UCL of course).

I'd try to get key guys some rest on Thursday (Amad, Ugarte, Licha, maybe Bruno). If we win, great, but if not it's not that consequential.

I just don’t think it has to be one or the other?

Is sending out a decent team to play Spurs sacrificing the league? We’ve got Bournemouth at home on Sunday…..we really should be able to compete on both fronts

We really don't have a squad to handle multiple competitions. Realistically it's the league +1, and Europa league surely has to be the biggest priority. Of course you go to win every game, and it's not like you play random youngsters and toss the game. But even half rotation has a big impact for our side and that's the point... It won't be our strongest 11.

Pretty much this. If we had beaten Forest we would be 5th in the league and 2 points behind top 4.

I’ll play de Ligt in this game and play Maguire against Bournemouth.

    Onana
Yoro - de Ligt - Martinez
    Antony - Casemiro - Bruno - Malacia
    Amad Zirkzee
    Hojlund

I like the look of this but I'd be looking to rest Amad and Hojlund. Get Zirkzee up top, with Erisken and Rashford/Garnacho in behind.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Martinez
    Antony Casemiro Bruno Malacia
    Eriksen Rashford
    Zirkzee

Probably a bit too much for us right now.
I'd be really impressed in Amorim if he manages to win this with a fully rotated team.
Perhaps it's time for Garnacho to redeem himself?

Pretty much this. If we had beaten Forest we would be 5th in the league and 2 points behind top 4.
And top 4 isn't even the likely cutoff. Likely there are 5 UCL spots for England this year, with 6 + 7 getting Europa.

The focus should be squarely on the league season. Heavy rest and rotation for this one.

Given the amount of hilarious spurs fans I've seen sticking the boot into our club since Ferguson retired (doubly hilarious seeing as we've won more trophies in the last 9 years (5) than they have in the last 40 years (3)) I am rather hoping we can go to their place and hand them their arses to greatly increase the likelihood they have another trophyless season.

Collyer is fit. Might be a good chance to give him a run out for a half. Another option in the middle would be great.

    Everyone but Liverpool and Chelsea*
