Not sure, pace in behind spurs high line is needed. If there was a game for Rashford through the middle, it’s this. I’d only play him on left if AM is fit to start.

From what I’ve seen, Ange is uncompromising in his principles so we should know what to expect in terms of their set up.

There’s even more benefit of his pace when he cuts in from the LW position. Starts the runs a bit deeper and he can exploit the space behind the defense even more efficiently.

If United play well can we all completely overreact again, just in the opposite direction?...I wanna see 11 player performance thread gushing over generational talents and Carte D'or potential winners.

Forget a meltdown, lets have a meltup!

Could do with some positivity. It's been all doom and gloom since the wolves game.

@Niall would it be possible to get Alvaro Fernandez added to the player selection? Thank you, Sir.

Oh and Kovar could be removed as he's no longer a United player.

There could be to be fair. I just think of the Liverpool game at OT last year where he played centrally despite their advances fullbacks. Would really like to see our front 3 interchange more in game as well, I don’t recall seeing it anywhere near as much I. The modern game - Rashford and AG did it once v Wolves and it was one of our better moves in the entire match.

We need Sancho in this game to provide numbers in midfield. Seeing as how no amount of millions can make us competent with the ball.
I’d play him for the simple reason that he scored there last season. I am absolutely against the Sancho false 9 experiment though.

Not comparing the two players at all. I am also broadly supportive of Mount's signing (yet). Just drawing parallels in terms of Ole and ETH looking for similar profile of midfielder after roughly similar period of rebuild.

You do realize we have Casemiro who is one of the best DMs in the world, Ole never had that type of midfielder.

My early impressions of Ange is he's a bit naive in that he wants his teams to attack at all times. I think that will suit us on the counter attack. Thankfully their defence is rubbish, they'll play a high line and we should have the pace to hurt them on the counter. I reckon we'll win this one and it should suit Rashford but I'm still concerned for our season going forward. Want to see a much better performance and hoping we won't see that ridiculous gap in our midfield like we did against Wolves.

    Onana
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro
    Fernandes Mount
    Antony Sancho Rashford

I'm a bit worried for this game due to our first game but we should really be putting 3-4 past them.

crazy that we might have to start Sanch up front isn’t it given what we’ve spent etc. that being said, it’s Tottenham.

Expect to see a massively improved performance from the midfield. Bruno and Mount just need to learn how to sit closer to Casemiro. It's not exactly rocket science, and I'm sure EtH has been drilling them on it in every single training session this week.

Still huge question marks over the front 3, though. Antony does nothing with ball, Sancho has a lot to prove at PL level, and Rashford seems out of form at the moment.

Judging by the last 20 minutes against Wolves, I've guessed Sancho will start on the left rather than false #9. But I imagine he and Rashford will swap positions quite a lot over the 90 minutes.

    I think we'll win 2-1.

We need to play two holding midfielders or else we are done for. If and when Casemiro regains his confidence and stride, we can experiment with luxury players like Mount. Till then we have to protect the midfield shape. Really thought we would have got in a midfielder or two since the last game. But we are being ourselves as per usual.

I hope it’s not a Bruno-Casa-Mount midfielder. We’ll get destroyed. Need to shore that midfield up a little. Play Bruno from the right , Rashford left and Sancho false 9. Throw Mctominay in there for a bit more physicality.

What a turnaround. Couple of years back the whole CAF was convinced we needed to move to a 4-3-3 for attacking football, and the 4-2-3-1 was the cause of all our problems. Now we have posters begging to go back to the much hated "pivot midfield"

I wonder if Casemiro needs a holding mid beside him - a type of player we don't necessarily have at the moment.

Bruno on the right is the wrong thing to do surely. Enough of that failed experiment

Case is a holding mid mate. Unless we want to play with two DM he won't need one.

True but on evidence of his performance against Wolves, his positioning was all over the place.
Case seems to start his season a bit slow. He looked like crap last season in the first month if my memory serves me right. But he will eventually come good again don't worry.

Tbf most of our players looked like they're on the phase after intense physical training in the pre season. But once they recover from that we'd look sharp again.

Imo we might need another DM but to be his backup, not to start along with him. We might play with two DM against the better sides like City but for the rest we won't imo.

    The duality of man
My thought behind it is that we want to be the best transition team in the world as ETH says. This is the perfect game to see it. If we struggle in the transition against this Spurs team with the way they are set up then I'll be seriously worried.

And after one game, so many players being written off. It's utterly madness, especially after last seasons start.

Yes. Although I'm worried about the ceiling of Mount's ability, I have no doubts that with a few tweaks to our shape and rotations, our current first XI can work.

I would start Sancho for this one, giving him the 55 minutes or so he seems to able to last, then bringing on Garnacho. Given the United squad as it stands, I would look to do this each game until Hojlund is fit. Also, how do you write the fancy o for Hojlund?

It’s on the keyboard next to æ and below å.

I guess Sancho false 9, Rash LW and Antony RW. I wish this time our midfield will be more organized, cuz Wolves game was a real disaster.

I really want a good performance, Ange’s team won’t be pushover’s. I genuinely think he’ll surprise a lot of people this season even without Kane.

I take it you don't know much about Ange and haven't seen Spurs play recently....
Been to see Celtic play twice last year , seen us Monday night and seen Spurs at the weekend . We ain’t scoring “3 or 4” as you say

So true! As a club we have struggled to move to 433, was it Vilareal in the UCL we tried it and got battered.

I still want a 4-3-3 but it has to be with the right profile of players. Playing with two 8s who can't pass the ball well and have zero midfield presence alongside a DM who can't pass the ball well and is prone to rash challenges is akin to playing a 4-1-4-1 with no good passers or controllers at all and that is a disaster.

If we manage to revamp our midfield and get players who are uber comfortable on the ball in midfield then 4-3-3 is absolutely the best formation to play.
