Strongly feel Rashford should be on the left for this game. Spurs fullbacks leave a lot of space behind them and it's perfect for the standard Ole-ball Bruno -> Rashford counter attack.

Wissa and Mbeumo had a field day against the Spurs defence, so hopefully Rashford / Sancho / Antony should do even better.

They're not a huge threat on the counter either given No Kane and Maddison, Kulu, Richarlison, Son aren't rapid.

    I think we'll see:

    Onana
    AWB Varane Licha Shaw
    Bruno Casemiro Mount
    Antony Sancho Rashford

Pretty much the same team, but moving rashford to the left where he is more effective.

Garnacho off the bench in the second half. But our midfield has to be way more disciplined, otherwise they would cut through us.
Yes, if all fit, that’s the team!

Spurs are going to batter United. Frustrating that we cannot keep the ball in over a decade since Fergie retired. We have no identity as a team. While we have improved with the pressing, after winning the ball it's all run with it and release it as late as possible after getting pressed by 3 players.

Spurs were very good against Brentford with it being an away game and not having Kane. Going to be a long day on the pitch. More worried about when we face Arsenal, City and Liverpool.

Batter? based on one game? Some of you lot need to get a grip. It's silly to make these assumptions based on all of one game.

We must be one of the most frustrating teams in the league for opposition managers to prepare for. So inconsistent that who knows whether the team would be brilliant or league one standard. Usually it's both within the same game. I know ETH said we want to surprise the other teams but hopefully not like this anymore.

During Ole's tenure, City actually didn't train before a derby match because Pep felt he had no idea how we'd set up.

I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.

Sancho should start over Garnacho. Gives Sancho a chance to see if he can produce, and we can use Garnacho in the role he is currently most effective in, sub against tired legs. Ideally try Sancho on top because we need to get Rashford back on the left. He is very ineffective up top and no one is as good as him on LW so we're basically weakening two positions. Someone needs to play alongside Cas in the midfield, we can't have Bruno and Mount wandering all over the place. If that's going to be how they play I would be tempted to say we should start McT alongside Cas and Bruno ahead of them.

That's definitely true. Mount signing seems like DVB.

Ten Hag will set up to play on the counter attack only, and that will suit United perfectly.

There will be spaces behind the fullbacks and if you attack those spaces, keep a tight block, and defend well because Spurs will come hard for you, you should win.

Mount already played much better than Donny. He’s also not at peak fitness and, as far as I can gather, he’s not quite doing what EtH wants.

    Any chance of Martial playing?

If he is fit then I would play him as the 9 as no matter what you think of him, when he is fit we always look far better with him in the team.

Would be a far better option than Sancho down the middle.

    Lads, it’s Spurs.

    Lads, it’s Spurs, without Kane.

Not comparing the two players at all. I am also broadly supportive of Mount's signing (yet). Just drawing parallels in terms of Ole and ETH looking for similar profile of midfielder after roughly similar period of rebuild.

Okay. Yeah. I suppose their profile is similar but I don’t think that’s what Ole especially wanted - supposedly Ole did sign off on Donny but he had asked for Grealish who is pretty different.

If we're to sell and buy a new DM, we ought to play one first.

So, maybe setting up like this should solve the issue.

    Casemiro Mctominay
    Bruno
    Mount
    Antony Rashford

Back two of Scott and Case with Bruno in front.

Antony and Rashford on the wings and Mount as a false 9.
    Or Jadon?

We don't need to change the personnel completely, just move Mount deeper like we used to play Eriksen. And please move Rashford to the left wing.

And ETH wanted De Jong, but had to settle for Mount.

If we have gaps in the midfield and the wingers can't hold the ball like on Monday you can count on us getting hammered 4-0 or something. However, it's Spurs so anything could happen here.

I think we are going to batter Spurs by 3 or 4 goals, probably 0-4. At home they will try to play on the front foot, and it will cost them dearly.

Same squad, but Sancho instead of Garnacho to start as a false 9, Rashford from the left.

It will be the same team, far too early to be making changes after one game despite how crap we were. No chance hes scrapping the Burno/Mount combo already..

    ....................Sancho
    Rashford.....Mount........Bruno
    ...........Erikson......Casemiro

Could Bruno on the right solve out midfield issue? Would it work?

Its the best time for us to play Spurs under Ange, early on while his players are still becoming proficient with his ideas.
Trouble is, people said last week was a good time to play Wolves

My take too. From the opening day fixtures I watched about 5 games and Spurs was the one that would suit us to a tee. Wide open on the counter, blunt in attack. Calls for our typical low/mid block and counter tactics. The only question mark is that, because it was exposed so badly by Brentford, will Postecoglu close that door? I suspect he will sort them out eventually, but this looks an ideal time to play them, though the same could be said about us I suppose!

He wanted FDJ but purposely identified Mount as a priority to do a different job. I think it was Casemiro he got instead of FDJ, no?
Apparently, but according to Fred he knew about the deal months before it was announced which would suggest he wanted both...which would make sense.

    Lads, it’s Spurs.

    Lads, it’s Spurs, without Kane.

Which will make it even more galling when Oliver Skipp is cantering through our midfield to lay it onto a plate for Richarlison who actually manages to be onside for a change.

Lads, its Man Utd, with a midfield made of butter.

Not sure, pace in behind spurs high line is needed. If there was a game for Rashford through the middle, it’s this. I’d only play him on left if AM is fit to start.

From what I’ve seen, Ange is uncompromising in his principles so we should know what to expect in terms of their set up.

We need Sancho in this game to provide numbers in midfield. Seeing as how no amount of millions can make us competent with the ball.

If United play well can we all completely overreact again, just in the opposite direction?...I wanna see 11 player performance thread gushing over generational talents and Carte D'or potential winners.

Forget a meltdown, lets have a meltup!
