We should play 4-3-3 IMO on Sunday.

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Evans - Blackett
    Fletcher
    Cleverley - Mata
    Januzaj - Rooney - Welbeck

Bring RVP on in the second half. 3-4-1-2 looks really weak with probably Valencia and Young as wingbacks.

Play Rooney in midfield... Please, the thought of Fletch and Clev in midfield - no wonder people keep taking the piss.

    Buy a fecking midfielder.

    We could play Anderson :smirk:
Seriously though he should be in the lineup thing because he'll probably be on the bench on sunday.

I agree with this, providing Welbeck is fit enough to start. Otherwise we're looking at (again, providing Robin is fit):

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Evans
    Raf/Val - Cleverley - Fletcher - Young
    Mata
    van Persie - Rooney

Herrera injures is a big blow for us now. Fletcher and Clev on mid wont do good for us. The only thing is I hope LVG have done some wonder magic on Clev.

Wonder what kind injured Herrera got, hopefully nothing serious and he is only going to miss one game FFS.

any lineup that doesn't have januzaj starting is ridiculous not only given his track record against sunderland last year, but also because it's becoming quite clear that he's perhaps our best player.

DDG, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blackett, Young, Fletcher, Cleverley, Mata, Rooney, Januzaj/RVP

    2-1 Sunderland.

The first competitive outing for the blue, blue and orange third kit. Alarming that we're running out of fit players to wear it.

A win, I don't care how we get it but a win. I can see Sunderland dictating the tempo of the game but will leave gaps for us to exploit. Be interesting to see how RVP and Rooney play together up front. Chicarito was horrendous last week and looked like he didn't know how to play up front at all.
    2-0 United.

I think we will finally have hit rock bottom on Sunday with our central midfield and defensive options. A number of Championship clubs will be playing with a better central midfield than Cleverley-Fletcher this weekend. A draw would actually be an impressive result for us. You can't really expect more when we are putting out teams like this. It will never sink in how such a successful and rich club ended up in this state.

Wow, now that Herrera (and maybe Smalling?) is out and Rojo doesn't have a work permit yet I'm really tempted to change my score prediction to a loss. Unless RvP, Rooney and Mata have a hell of a game it's not going to be pretty.

Think we should line up like this:

    --------------DDG------
    ------Jones--Smalling---Evans
    Rafael--------------------------Young
    --------Fletcher----Rooney--------
    ---------------Kagawa----------
    ---------Januzaj---RvP----------

I think it's going to be a tough fight in the midfield and even though kagawa is not great defensively, he is much better at tracking back and pressing than mata who is practically invisible in that sense. I think he deserves a start anyway. I just can't bear the pain of witnessing a Fletcher/Cleverley partnership again. Another option is to play Kagawa as a CM and leave Rooney in the hole. I just don't think we can afford to play Mata with the midfield we are left with for this weekend.

Fletcher and Cleverly WILL have to start. The only time they played together in the US, we were awful!

    What happened to Herrera?

This is getting ridiculous now, so many players out and it always seems to happen. We must have the worst injury record in the Premier League over the last five years.

No. Kagawa or Rooney would be a better option in the midfield. Can you imagine the lack of creativity with those two together again?

    I say start Powell.
Powell has not played in CM for around 1 and half years. Also, when he does-he plays as a CAM. LVG will need to take a risk with him. Kagawa was mentioned by LVG as being used as a CM. Most likely outcome is Fletcher and Cleverly playing in CM.

    Thanks a lot, Obama.

We made a huge fuss about the new £25m medical and sports science department that opened at the training ground last year but we still have the worst injury problems in the league. I makes me wonder if we should just appoint Raymond Verheijen as fitness coach and find out if he is the genius he thinks he is.

That is not what we lack (creativity), we need solidity in midfield and Cleverly/Fletcher will do a better job at that then our other midfielders (we are talking about relative quality-they are all average). We have Mata/Rooney and RVO who can all drop deep.

I'd rather us just play a really attacking team if we aren't going to have a solid midfield. Let the chips fall where they may. Back three with Fletcher in front & then just let everyone else run riot. Play Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj, Welbeck, Rooney & RVP.
    feck it.

I'm sure it's still Arsenal in the lead but we can't be far behind

Who are realistic options now to pair up with Fletcher? Cleverley, Anderson, Kagawa? Jones maybe? Fcuk that's ugly

No. We lack both creativity and solidity in the midfield without Herrera ,and Mata is a complete passenger defensively, no matter how deep he drops.

why is it that everyone who gets a player in already has a work permit ready but we are stuffed? Why do Citeh and Chelsea never have issues with that ?? What an epic tale just to sign a relative unknown quantity as a defender and still not be able to play him

Jones in midfield with one of Fletcher, Cleverley or even Ando? Jones would add some bite.

Very ugly indeed. We need another midfielder. Hell, I would be happy with De Jong or McCarthy now with the state of our midfield

    feck it.
I vote for this. I mean we'd be bound to get a few goals for sure, and there's only so many they can score. Think this would balance itself out one way or another and they'd be forced to play reasonably defensive if we were throwing that at them for 90 minutes.

People don't seem to realise that Powell was used as an old fashioned number 9 by Wigan last year. He didn't drop back and get involved in play, he was a target man. His passing looked poor when he played as a central midfielder for our reserves.

    --------------De Gea--------------------
    Rafael----Smalling---Evans----Blackett-
    ----------Jones-----Cleverley------------
    ----------------Kagawa--------------------
    Januzaj--------Rooney---------Welbeck--

To me the only solution is placing Jones in midfield. He played there quite a few times in 12/13 and surely , surely he cannot be worse than Fletcher. To all of you putting Fletcher in your line ups, just take a moment to remember how bad he was last season and the opening game this season. Whatever we do, we cannot start him this game.

On another note, I want to see Mata on the bench for this one. Cannot avoid any defensive feck ups due to him not tracking back properly

    De Gea
    Jones
    Smalling
    Blackett
    Evans
    Fletcher
    Rooney
    Mata
    Januzaj
    RVP
    Welbeck

    4-3-3 :D
