    --------------De Gea--------------------
    Rafael----Smalling---Evans----Blackett-
    ----------Jones-----Cleverley------------
    ----------------Kagawa--------------------
    Januzaj--------Rooney---------Welbeck--

To me the only solution is placing Jones in midfield. He played there quite a few times in 12/13 and surely , surely he cannot be worse than Fletcher. To all of you putting Fletcher in your line ups, just take a moment to remember how bad he was last season and the opening game this season. Whatever we do, we cannot start him this game.

On another note, I want to see Mata on the bench for this one. Cannot avoid any defensive feck ups due to him not tracking back properly

I like this line up. Probably the best way to go.

Predicted Lineup (may change mind after u21 game tonight):

    __________________________________________________________________

    1. De Gea

    4. Jones 12. Smalling 6. Evans

    25. Valencia 24. Fletcher 26. Kagawa 18. Young
    8. Mata

    20. Van Persie 10. Rooney

    ___________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    40. Amos, 42. Blackett, 2. Rafael, 23. Cleverley, 22. Powell, 11. Januzaj, 49. Wilson

    DDG
    Rafael - Smalling - Evans - James
    Jones - Cleverley
    Kagawa
    Januzaj - Rooney - Welbeck

Jones must play CDM for us.

I vote for this. I mean we'd be bound to get a few goals for sure, and there's only so many they can score. Think this would balance itself out one way or another and they'd be forced to play reasonably defensive if we were throwing that at them for 90 minutes.

Exactly. We'd look pretty ropey at the back but we need to start having some balls & be confident in our attackers. If we go to Sunderland with Evans, Smalling, Jones, Fletcher, Cleverley, Valencia & Young as the defence & midfield I think we'll get beat.

No Rojo? I'd start with him. Want a back three comfortable on the ball. Evans and Rojo would give us that. Also, Smalling is injured.

It'll have to be a real effort. Hopefully RVP, Mata, Rooney or Januzaj etc can turn it on. Need that quality to shine through because we are a mess behind them.

We're playing Sunderland and I'm questioning if we'll win with the players we've got left..

Cleverley and Fletcher in CM is only just above Sunderlands level.

*sigh*. We are cursed! Rooney cm???...

    -------------------DDG---------------

    ---------Jones----Evans-------Blackett

    ----Cleverley---Rooney---Fletcher-----Young

    --------------------Mata------------------------

    -------------Januzaj-----Van Persie

    ...what a shite team :(

I think our team will look something like this:

    ------------De Gea
    ----Smalling-Evans-Rojo--
    Jones-------------------Young
    ------Fletcher-Herrera-------
    ------------Mata---------------
    -----Januzaj---Rooney------

Januzaj has to play. It's getting more obvious every game that he's actually our best player.
You are a donut:smirk: Good but not our best

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Evans
    Rafael - Fletcher - Kagawa - Young
    Mata
    Rooney - van Persie

Rojo is unavailable, no work permit. And where does it say Smalling is injured?
Bloody hell. When will rojo be available?

Re: smalling, people seem to be talkingr about it with certainty in the injury thread.

He doesn't have a work permit. Not eligible to play. Wouldn't have started him anyway, doesn't seem to speak any English and that's important for a defender. Probably would have been on the bench.

Going to be played off the park once again. I am going for the same result as Swansea and the caf to go into meltdown for two days.

Re: smalling, people seem to be talkingr about it with certainty in the injury thread.
No idea, probably soon, not sure how long those things take. And it's just because somebody on here mentioned it, Smalling isn't injured, or at least nobody ever reported it, Van Gaal never said it and he took part in training.

Cleverley as a wing back??

Two days? It'll be thermonuclear by the time the transfer window shuts and we still haven't signed anyone else.

Sunderland will be well up for this at home and the injury news will be further blood in the water, I think a point would probably be a decent result under the circumstances.

    De Gea

    Jones
    Smalling
    Blackett

    Young
    Cleverley

I'm worried about this.. I, a Manchester United fan am worried about playing fecking Sunderland. The injuries are a joke.. what's a big joke is the fact we've let our squad get extremely weak with a lack of investment over the last few years.

With too many injuries and a bad result last week, I would like to see our team put a solid performance. It's a great test to show how much our players are buying into Van gaal's philopshpy - will the feel sorry for themselves or play with confident and no fare.

Januzaj was woeful as a wing back in the Swansea Game, and he and mata together were responsible for their first goal. He started playing well in the 2nd half, after LVG changed the formation. Also I think starting Mata is a big risk for this game. We can't afford defensive passengers especially against a Sunderland side that overloads the midfield. Kagawa is better at high pressing and putting the opposition under pressure. I agree with Jones but wouldn't a more mobile midfielder like Cleverley be better to partner him? The lack of movement with those two(Fletcher, Jones) would be awful to watch

I'd go with that, but Rafael over Valencia.

    What about playing a 5-3-2 formation?? I.e

    De Gea
    Rafael Smalling Evans Shaw
    Jones

    Herrera Mata Rooney

    RVP Januzaj
I think having phil in there, effectively as DM and then having the LB/RB get up the pitch but asking less of them than we do when they are wingbacks.

Hope fletcher never starts, hes been very poor since he came back

I am of an opinion Cleverley shouldn't start a game for us unless there was no other alternative. I hate watching him in the team.

All signs point to us being outplayed and struggling to pass the ball without losing all threat and slowing things down to a snail's pace.
And I'm having visions of Smalling and Jones trudging and sliding all over the place, with Sunderland looking like scoring every time they enter the final third, and De Gea's almost trademark look of disbelief that United are being cut apart by an average team he barely knew existed before he moved to England.

So... with that said... it wouldn't surprise me if we now defy all odds and win.
Maybe I'm just deluding myself though.

Need to play fast football through the middle to get the best from mata and ronney, this running down the wings is bullshit, most teams can handle that.

Me too, he's awful. I don't think Fletcher is much of an improvement though. The only reason I'd pick Cleverley ahead of him for this game is if Jones were to partner him. Just wouldn't be mobile enough. Cleverley, as bad as he is, does get around the pitch well. What about a Kagawa-Jones midfield? Maybe that would be better than both options. LVG does seem keen to try him there. Stick Rooney in the hole, essentially acting as a third midielder due to to the reasons I mentioned about Mata and them overloading the midfield Then, Januzaj-Rvp up front?

It would be nice if we could do the whole signing a 'player in 24 hours' thing and get in a midfielder before Sunday though, wouldn't it?

I would like to see that, especially if the alternative is Cleverley and Fletcher...

Can we not just ask Giggs if he would consider playing this match for us. He would do better than the other options.
