Don't think Garnacho will start with him probably only getting back from International Duty late today/early tomorrow.

Actually also think he might be tempted to not start Licha either and go with Maguire and De Ligt at the back.

    Think it'll be:

    Onana

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Maguire
    Dalot

    Case
    Mainoo
    Bruno

    Amad
    Rashford
    Zirkzee

Don't know what to expect. Every game has me nervous. If we do lose, I do think the manager will be on borrowed time. September is tough, fixture wise.

Must win and with style.. not necessarily in the scoreline but in style of play. We need to see something in these players, a hunger and fight. Or it’s big trouble for ETH. A scrappy win won’t be good enough here.

    Absolute must win, no excuses.

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez Dalot
    Mainoo Casemiro
    Amad Bruno Rashford
    Zirkzee

A few players have had long journeys back from international duty, including Amad.
Even if they make the starting line-up, individual performances usual suffer after these trips away.
Ugarte hasn’t had much time to integrate with the squad and train with his new team mates. He might get some minutes but I’d expect him to first appear next Tuesday night against Barnsley.

If we lose this match, I reckon ETH will get just one more PL game to save his job.
That next fixture is Palace away, next Saturday.

Would a draw or loss here be game over for ETH? I hope we win but if we don’t I hope we see a new manager.

Southampton are hyper-committed to a style of play their players are in no way suited to. Their defenders tend to play nothing passes between them until they're forced to go to the wingbacks, who then have no support, so the forwards have to go out very wide to help out. None of their midfielders really like getting into the box either, so they end up with no attacking threat whatsoever. It's why they've only scored the one goal, a late consolation courtesy of their right-back.

The thing is, they will more than likely have the majority of the ball and that will make the caf a wretched place to be. It's a bit LVG when I've seen them - the players can't really make any penetrating passes so they just play it safe whenever possible, meaning games where they have upwards of 60% possession without ever creating an actual chance. This was exactly how it went for them at home to Forest, and I think it's how most of their games this season will go.

So all in all, my prediction is that we'll win 2-0 and there'll be a huge meltdown because we let Jan Bednarek play 82 passes to Jack Stephens, which will be clear proof that we were played off the park and should give up on football.

So far this seasons possession stats.
    55.4% against Fulham
    51.7% against Brighton
    52.8% against Liverpool

That to me feels like an improvement(?) Plus shot faced is down from the crazy highs of last season.

I just hope the Liverpool result hasn’t dampen the mood entirely.

    I’m going for a scruffy 2-0 W

Easy win as others stated Southampton look all over the place.

It's ridiculous that not even 5 games into the season it's a must win scenario for the team already.

... that's also how I see this game. I mean, we should beat newly-promoted Southampton. But it's v difficult to feel confident with this team the way ETH has us playing.

I'd be more surprised if Luke Shaw was available.

He will soon be paying us for a testimonial.

As a must win, we need to play senior staff and not put hopeful punts on players like Amad or Collyer.

    Hoping to see:

    Onana

    Nasraoui
    Martinez
    Maguire
    Dalot

    Casemiro
    Mainoo

    Bruno

    Rashford
    Zirkzee
    Garnacho

Yep, it was even more painful to think such is our strongest line-up than it was to type it.

If we win, we'll win by the odd goal in how many. If they win, it will either be a ridiculous late show or a mauling.

Rashford shouldn’t be near the team
He wasn't fantastic, but he created our only two good chances in the last game. Where do people come up with this stuff? You can't have watched us vs Liverpool and think Garnacho should start the next game over Rashford.

Appreciate the options aren’t great but shocked so many people pick lineups with the same structure that has been an absolute disaster for about a year now.

    We need to change something.

Honestly for the first time in for however long, I am not that arsed about the restart after the international break. I hate this break three games in to every single season but Saturday I'm expecting the same dross in both quality and effort from Rashford, the same shit the bed keeping from Onana and Bruno and the rest of the midfielder playing hot potato with the ball and totally messing up easy chances other teams put away for fun.

So the one game Rashford has actually outshone Garnacho, since Garnacho broke through, you latch on to and think Rashford should bench him next game?

Probably because we all know nothing is going to change.

Looks like our prematch pressers have moved to Thursdays this season.

It was literally the last game. It certaintly counts for something. If Garnacho looked much better than Rashford in the previous game yet was benched many people would be howling from the rooftops.

Frankly, Garnacho hasn't looked very good this year apart from the Community Shield. He's mostly struggled in his limited minutes, and Rashford hasn't looked great either, but there certainly isn't some glaring case to start Garnacho. I know people want more from Rash given his high wage, and I do too, but his last game was his best one so far. It doesn't make much sense to bench him right now, espescailly given Garnacho is coming off a long flight/trip from Argentina while Rashford has been training with the team.

A couple games from now if Rashford keeps struggling and Garnacho does well, we should revisit the discussion. Right now, there's no real case for it in my opinion.

I agree with this. Garnacho has not been on it this season as yet, whereas Amad looks okay but not some nailed-on starter as a few think he should be.

They will ruin our weekend again these guys...
