He's been nowhere near as bad this season as people are painting. Would be fine for him to start on the left.
Agreed. Not that Rashford has been great, but he was better than Garnacho against Pool and Amad was easily our best player in that game when he came on. Should be Rashford and Amad starting on the wings.

But Rashford does need a goal soon. For a player who is known for his fragile mentality, the longer he goes without scoring, the likely it is his overall performance will drop.

He actually made some decent chances for Zirkzee that the Dutchman contrived to miss from point blank range against Liverpool.

Hopefully the more they play together, the chemistry will be a lot better and Rashford will get some assist for Zirkzee. Be interesting what happens once Hojlund is back. Him and Zirkzee could form a good partnership.

Zirkzee had great chemistry with Xavi Simons and Tijani Reijnders at the NT. I want to see him develop that with Amad and Mainoo.

Even Erik ten Hag can’t lose to Southampton. One of the few teams worse than United in the Premier League. The difference in quality on the pitch should be sufficient, but I have little doubt he will do his best to even the odds, and the travel makes it considerably more difficult.

Arduous 2:1 win. I guess scoring 2 in one game is quite optimistic, but it's just Southampton. If this team can't even do that, then things are even worse than I thought.

I agree but I think the big thing is the tactical change with the 4-2-2-2 setup. It seems like the system's goal is to isolate the wingers against their man 1v1 and let them make something happen. That means he stops getting in behind, waits holding width and tries to take on the fullback 1v1.

Garnacho will be twice the player in such a role - Rashford's primary strength is getting in behind defences through good running. If you take that away (or make it so it's not the primary thing he does all game) then he becomes kinda average.

I want to see Garnacho / Amad at some point on the flanks even though Garnacho has been worse than Rashford so far this season.

It's been said dozens of times before but genuinely I don't see how ETH comes back from a loss here.

I think the big question is does ETH drop casemiro for colleyer

If Ugarte can't step into the squad tomorrow and be proficient enough to not hurt us as much as Casemiro would, against one of the most hapless teams in the league, then we may as well have not brought him in. And, for that matter, if he can't function within the team better than a kid that has a grand total of two appearances in competitive matches in his life, that's pretty pathetic.

Anything less than 3 points and Ten Hag should legitimately be fired before lunch

I'd rather just play Rashford up top with Garnacho on the left and Amad on the right. Zirkzee just ain't cutting it for me.

So Zirkzee to start and grab a hattrick.

Rashford up top is a good shout. He’s ineffective out wide, and although he’s ineffective up top as well he’s at least a decoy that Southampton will have to put a body on to create some space for Bruno, Garnacho and Amad.

I want to see Case and Ugarte together.
Case is still a great footballer.. just doesnt have the legs.. If Ugarte is taking that burden, Casemiro sitting with him could work really well..

Been listening to TalkSPORT at work today and they have really been stressing how poor Southampton have been and Russel Martin’s insistence of playing out from the back and passing teams to death. If they beat United tomorrow (I think they will), then the media will be going big on ETH. Stage is set for him to get the boot if feels like.

As a must win, we need to play senior staff and not put hopeful punts on players like Amad or Collyer.

    Hoping to see:

    Onana

    Nasraoui
    Martinez
    Maguire
    Dalot

    Casemiro
    Mainoo

    Bruno

    Rashford
    Zirkzee
    Garnacho

Yep, it was even more painful to think such is our strongest line-up than it was to type it.

If we win, we'll win by the odd goal in how many. If they win, it will either be a ridiculous late show or a mauling.

I think I’d start De Ligt and Ugarte. De Ligt because dropping him immediately after a decent match against Pool will destroy any confidence he has left after the internationals and Ugarte because I can’t see how Casemiro can start after the last match.

Yes I like what you're thinking. That plus Mainoo and Bruno rotating the furthest midfielder position gives us good balance imo

I actually really like what I've seen from Reijnders for the Dutch NT, not just this past week but in the Euros as well.

I wouldn't be totally against making a run at getting him in the next couple of transfer windows.

    0 - 3 and a comfortable win for us.

    Onana

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Martinez
    Dalot

    Ugarte
    Mainoo

    Garnacho
    Fernandes
    Rashford

    Zirkzee

No excuses in this game, because apart from arguably Shaw and Hojlund, that's pretty much our best eleven; and against one of the weakest teams in the Premier League.

    Think I'd go with:
    Onana
    Mazraoui Maguire Martinez Dalot
    Casemiro Mainoo
    Amad Bruno Garnacho
    Zirkzee

Not confident given it's an away game

Think its important that the team put in a string of great performances alongside results to rescue the season from falling apart so early.

I don't think he is going to change much though. I think Ugarte will be on bench with Casemiro starting again.

    Onana

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Martinez
    Dalot

    Casemiro

    Amad
    Fernandes
    Mainoo
    Rashford

    Zirkzee

Another early kick off. If we lose it puts a downer on the whole weekend. I prefer late Sunday matches.

Three games and three defeats for Southampton but in each of those defeats they bossed the possession stats

    V Brentford 64%
    V Notts Forest 65%
    V Newcastle 78%

With all the talk of "win and he survives, lose and he's gone", what are the odds this will be a run of the mill draw, so no one will know how to react?!

Not good enough to get excited but not bad enough to give him the bullet, just a bit "meh"!
